didnt grow up to this music but its the movies that have me lookin up oldies like this, everytime i hear the beginning of this i think of all the lights in Cars turning on and every1 cruisin
The most successful version of this song was by The Crew Cuts; on August 7th, 1954 it reached #1 {for 7 weeks} on Billboard's Best Sellers chart and spent 30 weeks in the Top 100..
The original version was by te doo-wop group The Chords; in 1954 it peaked at #3 on the R&B charts and #9 on the Pop charts...
The British revivalist doo-wop group Darts' version reached #48 in the U.K. chart in 1980
The Fleetwoods release a covered version which did not make the charts..
I like both versions of the song. The Crew Cuts' version is Jazzy, this version has a rock n' roll vibe. The bass singer in this version is cooler though. That is a REALLY low voice.
you know life's good when your walking down the street in the summer and this is playing out loud and everyone happy with rocking Ricky fox on the radio ahhh the 50s were beautiful
HOW TO GET TOP COMMENT i am (insert any number between 13 and 15) years old and i (insert phrase- wish i lived in this time/ hate modern music/ love this song)
@mariaav887 I remember hearing this song in the early 80's (when I was a little girl) on Cool 105.9 out of Orlando, FL... riding in the car with my dad from the auto parts store. :) I was pleasantly surprised to hear it when I watched Cars with my 6 year old nephew. (Ah, nostalgia....)
@mariaav887 yeah i heard this one when i collected some old cds few years back... i wanted to use the "Life could be dream" part at the start for some jungle tekno track : )
And people are saying crew cuts made it first because they think black people are too stupid to, well black people in the old days made the good music, and they think that, because they racist, I'm not racist, I just don't like Obama, other black people that follow the law, I respect them
The chords made this first people, because there's one little fact, the chords started singing first, and made this song BEFORE the crew cuts, I heard the crew cuts version of this and let me just say, they FUCKED the song up, the chords did it right, crew cuts just like taking credit for it, crew cuts thumbs down, chords get BIG thumbs up
@EvilAnticsLive well they might be little kids so that means the song is still living on in the future generations. C'mon, thats good that Pixar put this song so little kids can listen to it and if they like it they can listen to it on youtube and the song will live on.
@hoppus104 The Crew Cuts version was the first one I ever heard, and I've been in love with it since...I grew up favoring music like this over the pop and rap my generation threw at me. This is the first time hearing the Chords sing this. Such a happy song.
@hoppus104 well, compared to this it is. don't get me wrong there are a lot of examples of white artists doing great covers of black music, but this definitely ain't one.
I prefer the Crew Cuts version of this song, cos I do. I also prefer The Beatles version of Roll Over Beethoven, what? so Chuck Berry was black? fuck off. That's got nothing to do with it.
this is the original, quite simply it was re-recorded by the crew cuts because the record companies would be able to market it to the wider white population, and parents were angry they were not used to rock and roll or r&b at the time so the crew cuts version is slowed down.
When I heard it in Dolphin Tale I just has to find out the name of this song :) I saw Cars again yesterday and it was just in my head but I didn't know the name :p thank God for shazzam ;)
I just heard the Crew Cuts version of Sh Boom. & if I had heard only that version, I would have been pleased....no question asked. But I heard the Chords version & it makes you want to take to the floor & cut it up! It's Day & Night, Black or White. Whatever you want to call it, but both version have a total dffrent groove & vibe. One version makes you wanna snap your fingers & tap your feet, & the other one make you wanna TAIRDAHOUSEUP! It's all depends on how sweaty you want to get.
When you're singing 4 part harmony & one person is out of key.. As a Musician, It bothers the piss out of me.. I love the bass in this version.. but other than that, I have to go with the Crew Cuts version... they simply nailed it !!
I can't believe so many people say they like the Crew Cuts version better. This original is the birth of rock 'n roll and r & b. It's so soulful. The Crew Cuts is just corny, sanitized, conventional, white bread barber shop singing. The Crew Cuts? Really? What's it like to have no musical taste?
@misterdirtyknees In the '50's white groups redid the oridinals so they were accepted but never done as well. Listen to Rocket 88 by jackie Brenston & Delta Cats then try Bill haley's version. I think I know which you'll like.
@boatops Right. We all know Little Ritchard did Tutti-Fruitti. But did you ever hear Pat Boone's version? Warning: You may need a bucket to throw up in.
@misterdirtyknees Why the hate? They're still the same song! This was just the style at the time, a lot of 50s/60s music had a very similiar vibe. I love this song and the original and all the other old school r&b/soul/rock&roll songs!!
@misterdirtyknees The reason why is cause The Chords weren't allowed to be on record thus they the Crew Cuts do a cover in the fifties so every one who prefers the Crew Cuts is probably because they grew up listening to them. However I personaly prefer the Chords originaly
@HustlerMitch No it's not. The Chords is the original done in March 1954. The Crew Cuts did it a few months later. It was actually written by members of the Chords. Who said anything about race? I'm white. I'm racist against myself?
@Flaaatt No it wasn't. The Chords did it first. Please try a little research. Maybe Wikipedia or something before you go on Youtube spouting inaccurate nonsense.

@gotitans456 Listen here, for Christ's sake; the Chords is the original. What's with all you people saying the Crew Cuts did it firs?. Do a research on Wikipedia or Google. It''s a known fact.
