  • @nutnfancy thanks for the great vids. one question: the susrvival ves equipment seems to be pretty complete. So what goes in the survival bag contained in the ejection seat?

  • Normally a USAF Pilot and or aircrew has his/her survival knife on there flight suit, there's a slot that's between the legs

  • give em a fucking K Bar

  • i miss some kind of rain protection

  • Just re-watched this series, great and entertaining.

Noticed another lack.. WHISTLE! Where is the whistle? Dude, your voice will fail you after a few good shouts for help at a passing chopper.

Cool vid nutn, cheers. I'm sure USAF pilots have a MUCH more updated system nowadays.. :P

  • NSN NATO stock #

  • where is the cammilus?!

  • Whats about US army issued ASEK knives? Aren't they included?

  • i agree that there should be a knife and that a lot of movies should be more realistic and i respect the fact that you cant show us everything and thank you for showing this because it must have been very hard to put it back together so thank you

  • Mate.......Your videos are so long winded. You could have done these video in 2 parts max......

  • british army!!!!!

  • could you fly with your own combat/survival knife?

  • No knife?....they must believe for sure your rescued in hours or dead, otherwise they'd have more ammo and a knife. I tote the old navy/a.f. survival knife of nam vintage....damn fine knife for the money.

  • Great series!

I did enjoy watching them.. pretty damn interesting.

Thanks for all your hard work.

  • NO KNIFE - WTF?

I wonder if Kamikaze Pilots wore such a vest?

  • @MrDucati1198s

The multi tool has a knife large enough to work in survival/ evasion situations. That said, most units will include a bolt knife (or similar).

  • @MrDucati1198s they would have had some sort of stimulant drug such as meth tabs; perhaps water; probably no food if they had psychotropics. Essentially anything to keep them operational and functioning in air towards the target, period.

  • @MrDucati1198s

The knife is carried seperatly from the vest.

  • what is the name of or type or even where to get that string holding everything to the vest, it seems to be of great quality?

  • @1IdeaAhead it's probably tether cord. I've gotten some from countycomm (web vendor) and seen it on Supply Captain (another web site). It IS high quality stuff--very superior to I believe every other "string" material I've seen. It's the thinner version of paracord in many ways (I hope you've heard of that! ;-) ) in that it's kernmantle though it doesn't have individual kerns and it has a lot of strength for its size. Plus low fraying, ect.

  • i love portland sadly i moved to vancouver washington though

  • no large scale knife or canteen that is surprising

  • what was that thing you would not tell us what it was???

  • As much thought and careful attention to detail went into this system, its amazing a good survival/fighting fixed blade wouldn't be included. I really hope our pilots aren't having to come out of their own pocket and supply their own blades while they're risking their lives for ALL OF US back home. Theres something definitely wrong with that.

  • no knife?

  • A survival knife isn't included as the vest is generally only for 24-48hr survival, just to either trek out to a safe pick up point, or to sit tight until someone picks you up. Radar will generally know where you go down, or a wingman.

If it was for longer i'd want a light weight nylon tarp, like an 8x6foot(lightweight, useful), some cordage(maybe i missed it), and of course a map(more likely issued before the mission, or stuck in a flight suit pocket)

  • it needs a knife

  • another thing that they should put is a few 3600 calorie food bars

  • The flexible saw is called a gigli saw it's used to amputate arms, legs, hand, feet.

The British OSS used them hidden in false compartments and sneak up on German's and slip it around your neck and saw or pull and slit your throat

  • Dang, I was hoping the vest had an Ontario Spec Plus Air Force knife in it. I just bought this knife and was wondering what you thought of it.

I like it so far I guess. The "saw back" doesn't work very well though.

  • how much truth is in that ,,behind enemy lines,, movie

  • NO dont dis my gerber! ;-)

  • thanks for the little insight nutn

  • great video!!! damn i have no idea how the heck you could survive without that vest!

  • Where is water purification tablets and fire making tools?

  • The water purification tablets were in the "first aid" kit. didn't notice any fire making tools though.

  • @Flevdk If you pause at 0:52 you can see it says "MATCHES" on the item list.

  • Ohh, yea.. Cheers mate.. :)

  • @Flevdk besides the matches?

  • @5687678

    he showed them

  • I can't believe how long it took people to clue in what branch of the military a guy who constantly goes on about weight might be from... Not to mention other "clues".... :) Cool stuff, I just hope that people being a pain in the ass about things he says he can't discuss won't discourage Nutn from doing more things of this nature. I hope its not the case, but reading the comments on these vids, it would not surprise me if he was more than a little pissed off...

  • i would like to see them dump that m9 and go back to a 45.

  • Decent vest missing a few items as you mentioned and some you didnt. A tarp of some sort would be a MUST have even a poncho for covering, bivouac and water collection. I assume it would be tailored for the various environments, ie desert, forest, sea, jungle etc. Still could use an energy bar or one a day vitamins. Definately dont need any extra Bags since everything is packed in a bag.

  • its so obvious now.

    this is your vest!

thats why you keep saying stuff like, we, my unit!

Man i wanna become a pilot too someday, just like you. I pray that im physically up for it.

You shoulda seen my jaw drop when i watched that other video. Im jealous man! but in a good way.

You've gotta tell me what plane you fly, that would give me the kicks.

keep those great videos coming man!

  • gotta be extremely good at maths and phtsics first. u up 4 that

  • im doing my best.

im taking an advanced physics course at my school.

math is also ok. :D (A)

im more worried about being physically up for it.

    my knees and stuff.

i know the german Luftwaffe is very picky about who flies their planes. (Im half German)

  • good luck I hope u make it

  • in the older vest we had a survival knife and sharpening stone - of course we used to carry the .38 as a side arm in it as well until we switched to the M-9 in 1989/1990 ... great job!

  • excellent

  • really cool

  • I think it doesnt take so much space and weight to put in 2 or 3 lighters and a magnesium fire starter.

  • No MRE ?

  • the only thing i could c the vest needs for anywhere is a whisel or 1 of them alum blankets

  • what about firemaking?...only matches included in the first aide kit...need a flint and steel

  • no knife:(

  • multi tool has 2 knives.

  • Whoa, he really hates the MP600. I think we get it.

  • watch the video where he compares the mp600 wiith the charge ti

  • Yeah, I saw it. He was like, "I actually think the Gerber may better it this one area, but I'm still giving it to the Charge". Ha. We love you NF. Keep the reviews comming.

  • Fixed Blade Kife....Cold WX , gloves...lack of dexiterity(?) who wants to mess with a folding knife. Automatic Pocket Knife, and a open blade knife, next to a map, is pretty important ( MY hard-knocks story)...

    Tks........*** -- ***

  • Odd that they don't include an "Air Force Survival Knife" available everywhere w/sharpening stone, saw back, sturdy blade and pommell that will pound tent pegs or nails. I have one in my trunk tool kit, never know what it will be used for. Could be used to fight, I guess, but it's purposefuly short for an open blade. I think it is one of the best civilian inexpensive survival knives available. Usually see them next to Marine fighting knives in catalogs, hilt made of leather WWII type rungs

  • By the Way Nutnfancy, how many mags do a down pilot have in the vest?

  • I was surprised that they did not not have a fixed blade knife, or a spave blanket of some sort.

  • yeah a fixed blade knife seems like it sholuld be in there

  • they used to have the old Camillus USAF Pilot Survival Knife...now some of them have the Gerber LMF II ASEK Military Hunting Survival Knife. my old unit when we went to th ehanger we had a choice of knives....i am old school and always those the usaf pilot knife

  • i say they should have a chain saw (no not a big petrol driven thing) you can simply buy the chain off a chain saw with two straps either end as handles. they take out trees and other large wooden objects

  • nice "review" (tour? overview?) interesting and informative, and it gave me a few ideas. thanks.

I am puzzled why there wasn't a fixed blade in the vest, I was under the impression that the air force issued one (until recently made by callimus irrc)

  • hey, just a question, what about a leatherman Skeletool?

  • Very interesting, thanks!

  • i was wondering where the knife was

  • i agree

  • it would be the multi tool!!!

  • not really what i would consider a real knife

  • Real life ain't like rambo.

  • what if the map blows away in the wind or what if for some unknown reason its an old map which probably will never happen

  • what about a gps

  • I bet that was the piece he refused to show or talk about...

  • actualy i would think its a cyanid pill ...

  • the unexplained baggie, was in the same pouch as the tourniquit SP*, I would imagine it would be a pain releaving narcotic.

  • thats what i thought

  • one person said it was coke to make them stay awake

    i dont know

  • LOL!

  • probably

  • for what

    suicide?

  • thats one small gps

  • i would say its not needed because the pilot will have a map of the area he is in and he will have that compas and pilots are trained in navigation which makes a gps not really needed but i admit would be nice to have i assume

  • Locating beacons are always nice, specially in Large search area's,

  • gps needs to have updated maps and stuff

    and

    they need lots of batteries

  • Why they would'nt include the standard OKC3S knife?

  • b/c OKC3S is a Bayonet

  • wouldnt they include some MRE's besides the stuff in the health baggy

  • They are. Look at the part where he shows you the back of the health kit. It says something like "FOOD SAMPLES" in all capital letters like that. That's basically MRE.

  • strange, all the ARMY pilots i have seen or ridden with have carried large knives, even though we were in vermont.

  • Great video series 5 stars, very informative. I can't believe you bought that flare pen when you were 15 and you still have some flares, that's awesome. Reminds me of when I was a kid going into surplus stores buying all kinds of cool stuff.

To bad my favorite surplus store close down a year ago. We also had our Coleman outlet close down a month ago in my area.

Yeah that vest needs at least a small fixed blade if anything. I'm not a fan of multitool blades. But if I had to I'd use one.

  • I don't know anything about pilots but wouldn't they carry a fixed blade on their body already?

  • i thought gerber had that lmf asek knife for the airforce...

  • w8 i dont get why they putted a bb gun??? plz explain

  • he said in the last vid that he placed the bb gun. they wouldn't give the vest with the gun

  • they wouldnt let him take the vest home with a real gun

    probably for libility reasons

so they replaced it with a bb gun for now, until he returns it

  • can you take your on knife ??

  • nice, very interesting. The video quality is fine.

  • I was surprised to not see a signal beacon. Is that an extra? perhaps secret? or just ineffective and intercepted too easily? Mneh, what do I know.

  • watch the whole series. n one of the other parts he shows the beacon

  • thanks for the tour nf. I would love a m9 review too.

  • Great vid, I thought the camera was fine anyway good luck putting it back together, I'm off to hunt down some of those sweet flares.

  • Speaking of weight and bulk, what does the vest weigh as shown?

Video quality looked fine in HQ mode.

  • thats o.k. all those "lightweight" knives will make up the difference, 1/2 oz. here and 1/2 oz. there, you have heard the rest....

  • dont delete them. think they were fine. Nice critics on the vest, great recommendations. This was a great review overall. Nice addition. Im with you I think a small survival knife would be extremely beneficial. The A1 or RAT Cutlery knives would be great. Good luck on the reassembly. Lol. Jet over and out

  • nice video as always man, I enjoy watching. keep up the good work.

  • is something wrong with your camera

  • New camera and it just looks awful doesn't it. I may have to delete this...and I ain't re-doing them!

  • No, it doesn't look awful at all! It's the Youtube compression. Add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL and you'll see it in high quality AND stereo sound. :-) This works for almost all videos. Youtube needs to make the &fmt=18 thing standard.

Also, two of the Fallkniven knives (S1 and F1) are approved for use in the US and Swedish Airforce.

  • wow thanks for the tip it actually works

  • @nutnfancy please don't delete this,it's very helpful info in giving an idea on how to survive during an IMDC situation...wat i was a bit suprised was that they didn't have much in terms of first aid apart from a few bandages and a tourniquet...but no field dressing?

  • @nutnfancy How much does the vest weight out of intrest,Also great videos all 4.
