I got a 97 blackbird. What a great bike. I'm still amazed at how well she handles. Never was too popular here in the U.S. the ugly busa kinda killed her off. Its funny most people in my area have never heard of a cbr1100. One guy told me they don't exist cause they only go upto 1000cc LOL :) I love the blackbird. I agree best bike ever!!!
Yeah looks best in black, got a blue one myself, and I agree with all the comments here, it's really user friendly going about day to day riding, and yet you always know inside that it can really fly if you want it to, that's why I love riding it. I average about 70-80 miles on ten UK pounds worth of petrol, I can skip gears and go about in 4/5 no trouble at 30-50 mph never need to change down really, I've left mine totally standard and the only trouble I've had is the REG/REC problem, that's it
i had to replace a timing chain tensioner,it was rattling on deceleration down from 4k rpm or so. no big deal one hour of work,and cost me 65$ us for the part. Long live the blackbird! honda should bring it back here!
Just say you something: This is one of the sweetest and nice bikes to ride ever. It is very docile and as you keep your right fist under rational power you will have no trouble with this girl. Just a perfect machine!!! PERFECT!
The bike is a lion or a lamb dependent on when and where. Great distance cruiser or great for a blast and comfortable two up. Very manageable and safe as any bike (subject to rider and other road users).
Ok but this is an 1100cc bike so what makes it different or safer then a 1000cc bike of today?Im just curious because Im a new rider and was told not to start with anything bigger then a 600.
As a new rider you probably need to be advised by other experienced bikers on what bike would be best next step. But for a bike of it's engine size and the power it can deliver (when asked), the Blackbird is very user friendly.
Completely agree with you - SHAME ON YOU HONDA!!! Can´t accept the fact Honda left the Blackbird for behind. But I will always have hope that we can see a new Blackbird one day.
Mine is also a 1998 model. The Blackbird is also a smile starter all way through its path. You can see the kids eyes shining as the bike goes everywhere.

Yeah, man, that is THE MACHINE. And you´re right, the voltage regulator is a chronic problem in Honda Bikes. I have had my XX´s voltage regulator replaced last year and I installed the CB 450 one. It´s working perfectly (the voltage is exactly the same) and it has a better cooling design. Apart from this, the only maintenance I´ve had was the Oil Change + Filter (every 1000km - I prefer to do this short cause here is a very hot place :) - and the tyres.

Gotta love the Bird - - - yes the Busa and ZZR1400 are faster but they don't have the looks or reliability of the Bird.
Get's attention everywhere I stop - - Have a 1999 Candy Red Bird.
