  • Since we're on the topic of English and French in Canada, I'd just like to say it doesn't really work. Anglophones like me are taught French Canadian in school but then usually never use it. I'd like to know how to speak French Canadian but I'm not exposed to it enough. It doesn't really unify the country when you have two official languages.

  • @lotusflower281 Agreed. I currently live in Belgium and it faces the same problems: there are three official languages (French, Dutch and German) but also a lot of tension between the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking parts...

  • Non, elle dit ne pas être punk^^

Je suis plus grande qu'elle de plus de 10 cm et j'Ai 12 ans lol

  • je l'ADOOOOOOOOOOORE ! :p

  • oh snap! I've been studying french for 3 years, and I didn't understand a word !

  • @iAmMossab94 I laughed my ass off. Though keep trying it out man

  • la commentatrice devait sûrement être enrhumée ^^

  • Pourquoi ne pas parler français Avril?

  • elle este jolie

  • I'ts GirlFriends?

  • @wwwonderful Non ^^

  • @Buddychigo Si

  • @wwwonderful Ou pas ;) haha

  • @wwwonderful lol t'est drole toi...

  • Why if she's from quebec's descendent she doesn't speaks french???

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON Her father is French but the only language she's ever spoken in her childhood is English! :)

  • @Buddychigo It's sad that she seems not to have been given the opportunity to learn French, given that her father at least had a French name. Presumably, not much French gets spoken in Napanee. In my experience, one needs an opportunity as well as a bit of motivation to learn a second language, and perhaps both were lacking. As for myself, I didn't really learn French until I entered the work force in Montreal (having grown up here).

  • @Buddychigo Her grand-mother and grand father are from quebec.

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON my family a few generations ago came to american from quebec and we dont speak french at all

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON Non, elle est une tarte!!!!

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON do you expect every afro-american to speak native african languages? ...

  • @KaosKrusher not exactly but most (not all) of foreign people teach to her sons to speak their original languagues not??

  • @KaosKrusher not exactly but most (not all) of foreign people teach to their children to speak their original languagues not?? a think just for not forget from where do we come..

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON sadly not and I know it very well

my fathers parents were italian and came to france and NEVER spoke italian with their children (they wanted ti integrate too much :/), one of my former neighbour is german and NEVER spoke german to his kids (dunno why) and finally my mother in law is czesch and don't speak czesch with my half-daughter ...

luckily for me and my brother our mother always spoke german to us

  • @KaosKrusher u.u

  • @KaosKrusher well most afro-americans dont have a parent that speaks an african lang. since most afro-americans have been n america since the time of slavery which can b traced back 500yrs & they were forced to learn eng...its hard to hold on to a lang that long therefore its easy to see y many blacks dont speak african lang...theyve been n an eng-speaking country for 100's of yrs!! I do agree with the point u were making but i dont think ur analogy is equal to avril & her french father!

  • Actually a lot people are like that, me included

  • @ALFREDOPOKEMON She's from Ontario and her father is from France^^ She never live (I think ^^)In Quebec, infortunaltely

  • She is of French Canadian descent but basically an Anglophone. So her French sucks. Not her fault...

Even Francophone in Ontario have a weird accent, i.e., an English accent.. In Quebec the accent is very different from France, but it is pure French although there are a lot of Anglicism: French words use in an English sense.

For example: lettre enregistrée instead of lettre recommandée. (registered letter in proper French is "recommanded letter")

  • @jceepf Its true that québécois use some anglicism, but French people use a lot of English words. They say shopping and parking instead of the real french word. But I have to say that even if Im a French Canadian (my parerents arent), I dont like the accent ( no offense ). And lucky me, I dont have the accent because my school is full of immigrants and theres only a few québécois,so most of people speak " neutral " french

    For example, Québécois dont say " Pas " ( not ) but " Po " ( Paww )

  • Basically she knows what she's saying, its just that it didnt come out of her mouth like she wanted to. Make sure you watch Jodie Foster hosting the César Awards (french oscars) to see how faulty she is. Since shes obviously good enough to host a French Awards show, and picked over hundreds and hundreds of Native French speaking actors and actresses.

  • elle est vraiment trop jolie Mademoiselle Lavigne...

  • Not every Canadian speaks french, it really depends where you're from, and if you have the language skills to learn a second language, because a lot of people don't. Even though her dad's french, if he didn't teach it to her and she didn't do French Immersion (which would be her parents' decision to put her in) then she would not have learned fluent french.

  • @caromadden, hello, there's an ass load of frenchies all over MANITOBA, too! Myself included.

  • Shouldn't she be able to speak French? I thought Canadians were required to learn it.

  • yes but the majority of anglo-canadians forget it once they finish high school.

  • Whatever...at least English Canadian Girls' vajayjays don't look like week old poutine...

  • hahaha old poutine !

I use to live west (calgary & Vancouver)

and let me tell you that I dont feel a shame

about our girls in Québec !! hahahaha!

old poutine but slim old poutine hahaha!

  • @trinitymike hey trinity, get a stick and put it in your asshole plz, And Avril Lavigne is supposed to speak french not because she is canadian, but because her 2 parents are french people.

  • So what??? She grew up in Crapanee, Ontario...No need to speak French in Ontario....ever...

  • So she's not Quebecer? Or are her parents of Quebecer descent or something like that? French ancestors, maybe? I can tell just from the configuration of letters her name's gotta be French in origin.

  • @whoo689 No, she was raised in this small town in East-Central Ontario; her parents might be from Quebec or the name might just be French in origin and no-one from her family has lived in Quebec for generations.

  • @trinitymike She went to my high school. Napanee District Secondary School. Not too much French there.

  • @hellbent18 I was just at the fair in Napanee...interesting town

  • In fact only her father came from France as a baby.

  • @whoo689 if her dad is french then shes part french dip shit

  • @patatepoilue666 "french people"? Are you a retard?

  • yea we learn it until grade 9 but after that it's no longer mandatory. Kinda like spanish is a "required" learning language in the states i guess.

  • except that canada is officially bilingual. i think it's such a waste to learn a language up until a point, and then stop. wasted effort and opportunity

  • @gloomyoutlook You're right...we should ever learn French ever...

  • @trinitymike

i don't know what your agenda is, so I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but that's not at all what i said.

  • @brock1857 nish isnt required in the us

  • @brock1857 wups ment spanish isnt required lol

  • Actually I don't think it's required... I mean she wasn't in Quebec. Quebec is one of the only place in the Canada where the majority speak french. Other than that and some little place in Ontario *Like at the frontiere of Quebec/Ontario and in Ottawa* they don't speak french.

  • Only in public school as far as I know

  • can she not speak french? she should be able. btw im irish but all 3 out of my 4 grandparents have french surnames. aller les bleus :D LOL.

  • French from France is to Canadian French as United Kingdom English is to American English

they are not to be mistaken

  • The Same thing with Spaniard Spanish, and Mexican Spanish, Argentinean Spanish, Cuban Spanish, etc.

  • The funny thing about it is that French from France constantly pick on French Canadian for using English words. I think they're actually worst than us. They just take English word and keep the French prononciation.

  • @Ph4nToM890 I think your vision is a bit outdated. Most French today would actually make fun of French Canadian because of the literal translations from English...but there's no "better" or "worse" version of the French language.

  • its just slang.

if anything we should try and speak french because almost half of the english language is basically french words pronounced badly.

  • lol... I have nothing against English. In fact I hardly speak any other language. I'm just saying that the English language is a collection of words from other languages( French, German, Latin...) and I think the world is way cooler when there is lots of different cultures and lanuages instead of assimilating into one.

  • lol

  • i hope to be dead long before 2050 ; )

  • I hope you mean 10 to nine tonight, cos if you do I agree, I want you dead by 10 to 9 tonight as well.

  • The manners to count differ according to countries (the English dictionaries, consider as a word what in French will be considered as a nominal group or a concept using several words); certain languages (as German), allow the construction of an almost unlimited number of words; is it necessary to accept the local commes terms of the words?

And if we applied the English grammatical rules to the French language, it would have more or less 1 million words (as English).

  • Whats the french translation for 'thats illogical your talkihng out of your arse'

  • I knew it. Your brain is not enough to develop to understand the grammar of another language or even to be able to speak another language (As I).

  • est-ce qu'elle parle français???

  • what a french canadian she is hahahaha , not a word in french

  • lol, when I saw this I expected that she would be Canadian and speak French, but no, she launches in and begins the interview with "Yaaa..."..that's not standard English, by the way.

    accept my apologies

  • cool interview

  • lol feuune

  • HAHA les americans ne peut comprande lol

  • you can't even speak french properly...

  • hes using a online translator that's why the grammars wrong

  • Jodi Foster was born in L.A. and speaks fluent French. Avril was born in Canada and is still working on English.

  • LOL

  • Haha I'm an Avril fan but that made me crack up !

  • Ha Ha, soo true! s quel I' ; énonciation de m

  • @mka800 Jodie Foster speak perfect French, not fluent. Fluent is when you know all the grammar and use it. Perfect is when it's like you were born speaking it, like (presumably) your English.

  • @nakedvolleyball You have this in reverse

  • @nakedvolleyball

What on earth are you talking about? Fluency can range from basic fluency to native-level fluency. No one speaks any language perfectly, not even native speakers, so that is not a description used in linguistics.

And Jodie Foster speaks French wonderfully at a near-native level, but not a native level Just read the comments in on her French interviews. e.g.,

fokjullenaaiers wrote: "She speaks well...but it is obvious that she is not a native speaker-"

  • @afeeder Jodie Foster speaks french better than alot of french speakers and has perfection diction. She speaks french better than most americans speak the english language.

  • @jonnythong22

Her accent, according to the French commenters is recognizable as a foreigner.

I would assume you are not a native French speaker since you are from the US, so how would you know more than them about French?

  • Comment removed

  • @afeeder @afeeder Ever heard of the term "assume makes an ASS out of U and Me? " I live in Moyon, Normandie. I am FROM the US but my family is from here and have been speaking the language my whole life. Being bilingual has its perks, such as being able to recognize perfect diction, which Jodie Foster has. And the example of the person you put up was a dutch Belgian, even THEIR diction of the french language is as horrendous as a French Canadian's.

"puré faut etre hyper concentré pour entendre un soupçon d'accent étrenger!"

    Leyuann

"Elle fait juste quelques fautes de genre mais c'est normal quand on ne parle pas le Français tous les jours."

    Biloutemag

"Most cultivated american person ever! Very few mistakes:"depuis des centaines" she should have added "d'années".

    shion255

"Actually there are a few minor mistakes such as "un peur" instead of "une peur" or "Ca me donne beaucoup de choses à EN parler"...

  • @afeeder And i was saying, Jodie Foster sounds like a native FRENCH speaker from France. She speaks very clearly with a perfect accent. Next time think before you try and reply. I read the comments on the Jodie Foster video and everyone is surprised that she spoke in a perfect french accent. But im sure you would have understood that if you read french.

  • @afeeder I stand corrected. He's from Las Vegas, who know lives in Dutch Belgium, which in turn means he even has less credibility of knowing the french language with a perfect accent.

  • @mka800 Guess what... Her grand-parents are living in the province of Quebec and they don't even speak french! It's really frustrating because french people correspond to 20% of Canada... Plus, her name is so french!

  • @mka800 not only she's from canada but her dad is french what a pity

  • @mka800 ok with you !!

  • @mka800

Yes but Jodie Foest wanted to learn french, not Avril. But that is normal, why to learn french ? it serves to nothing.

  • @Bassoarno because she's canadian and the 2 official languages are english AND french

  • @mka800 Jodie Foster spent a few years of her childhood in France. Voilà l'explication, crénom

  • what???!

  • too bad she doesnt speak french! i love her anyways

  • Yes!Why she doesn't speak french? Her father is french, and her mother is franco-canadien!But she's yhe best!God Bless you, Avril!

  • yes, maybe cuz she can't speak french..xD

  • I know Kertschy was referring to Avril. I actually asked because she's not Quebecoise. It seems rather hasty to call her that way just because her dad is French and she was born in Canada. Seriously.

  • Cool :)

  • Who the heck are you talking about ?

  • She's not Quebecoise idiot, she's born in Ontario

    Well, your stupid!

  • @kertschy dude, she was born in ontario..

  • @kertschy shes not even from Quebec, shes from Napanee. Search before u lie -.-

  • me don't understand well hahhahahha

Avril a copié Amy Lee ! Je la hais !", c'est gamin. Il me faudra des arguments plus convaincants et sérieux que ça. (J'ai rien contre toi, je critique juste les vidéos que t'as en favoris v___v)

  • english please!

  • I might write a transcript when I have time...please be patient. (I'm a huge-ass procrastinor :p)

  • lol ok! XD thank u for answering me!
