English is not my native language so not a rocket science to understand that I could commit grammatical mistake [I know 4 languages by the way]. But it is surprising that you committed a mistake too....its "Low" not "Love" IQ.
For much of human history (at least the modern civilisations of the last 3 to 4,000 years, India, along with China, have been the two richest in the world until the 18th century. Different civilisations and kingdoms within those two lands have dominated world GDP. And all indications point to these two nations dominating world GDP again even within our lifetime. So, you Americans, do not knock the Indians, for they will one day be your masters.
@riggerize WHEN? LOL! look at you you are so uneducated that you can't make the difference between an American and a Canadian... I'm really afraid of someone like you... NOT!
As Indian economic boom continues, space research is getting more money. It has got $1.5 for this year. Remember, what it can do for US $1.5 billion, it takes for NASA $50 billion to do the same. That is the value for money. Now its goals and ambitions are on far with any leading space research. It attracts now best talent. There is some cutting edge reseacrch to develop very cost effective launch vehicle is going on. You will hear from them lot in 5-6 years.
Without much money support from Indian government, they built technology and satellites by great frugality. You can see how these scientist are dressed. Many of the first small satellites were carried by bullock cart and bicycle. That is the determination to succeed and execel with limited money they got from Indian government. Today, their satellites transformed Indian rural & distance education, tele-medicine and information tech.
I took this as a good humor. But RM will not enjoy this joke if he see it again on youtube after 7-8 years.
I closely follow indian space research. Most of the people work for space research are come from 2nd and 3rd level universities with humble background. They are not from best Indian Engineering Schools like IITs. But these are dedicated and hardworking engineers who are happy to work for their country with a salary barely enough to make a decent life with a finely run organization
India is one of poorest country in the world with burgeoning population. These brainless scientists should open their eyes to look around them to see slums and hungers of their fellow citizens, and try to improve food harvests as well as business to improve their lives rather than trying to go to Mars.
The fact is they trying to reinvent the wheel by doing research on what we US and Russia already are so far ahead.
Even if $100 million is distributed amongst the poor it will not make a dent.
On the other hand, through technological advancement, Indian Space agency is earning Billions in revenue by launching satellites for other countries...
The investments in Science & Tech which India made as a hungry , poor nation in the 1950's is the ONLY REASON why it is doing well in many fields today.....
The aerospace program benefits the economy as well....Ex: Today Boeing, GE, EADS all have units in India creating valuable jobs and export earnings.....
Wealth "generation" and wealth "distribution" are two different issues!!

So Mr Mercer finds it "incredible that India has launched a space probe"! I wonder how much he knows about India. Maybe most of what he knows is that it is stealing Canadian jobs. It may come as a surprise to him to learn that Canadians earn a lot more per capita from IT outsourcing than India does.
Based on the article "Globalisation shakes the world" on BBC News online (Jan '07), per-capita earnings from IT outsourcing were: Ireland $2150; Israel: $486; Canada $118; India $12.2.
Yes, I find the RM show funny, and recognise the humour in this as well. But jokes are often a socially acceptable way of expressing unacceptable feelings. He says "I don't know what is more incredible, that there is water on the moon, or that India has launched a space probe". And the allusion to outsourcing to India. I was merely responding to those attitudes.
I should not have honoured your coarse response with a reply! (I won't hereafter). Wish people could be a little more polite!
dude! it's a joke...if u look at how he says it u can tell that he's actually showing that there are some people in the world how lack the knowledge about other countries. He's actually a great person and he nos a lot

India has the best Institute of Technology is the world, how is it surprising that India built a space probe to the moon?

Rick Mercer isn't questioning the ability of India to launch a space probe.
It's well known India is a nation capable of making of technological advancements.
Rick Mercer is questioning "the logic" behind it the launch.
Why would India launch a space probe to the moon? To plant Call centres?
It's a joke! Don't you get it?
