Jared's set has always sounded awesome. He has definitely gotten the right tuning for each drum and the technological know how to mike them and EQ them just right for a great sound. He has also improved along the way. It's nice to see that while he runs this great drum educational site and products, he has continued to work on and improve his playing. A real inspiration for all who are lovers of the instrument.
I'm trying to study drum solos since I have signed up for the Guitar Center Drum-Off. Would this win one of the rounds of the Drum-Off? Anyone chime in, or write what would be good to include in my solo for the Drum-Off.
This solo is by far your best one out of the three Drum Solo - Jared Falk vids. The storyline, if I may call it that, is by far the most interesting one.
How much EQ is put in to this drum sound? The kit and the drum heads sound magnificent, im wondering if this is the raw awesome sound of this kit, or is it mostly effects to boost the sound of the drums?

i love these videos and this jared falk guy, i mean he still looks kind of young and hes already b.a., but nobody thinks of him as like neil peart or anything because old people like neil, and john b. (rip) already did this stuff, if he was born in the 50s or 60s jared would be one of our influences, and he still has many years to get better.
there is no way you can say if he was born in the 60's hed be one of our influences....thats because he wouldnt have had all the guys from that time as his influences...things would have turned out much differently
if ur talking sinlge strokes...which i assume you are...do a single stroke roll at about 70-75% of ur max speed for long periods of time...this will build muscle memory in ur hands, wrists, and arms and will help u build speed
really, and they still ring out too much?, then get some electrical tape, and make like an x on the middle of your head, or just make a box, electrical tape isnt very sticky, is easy to pull off and doesnt leave any stickyness behind
it could possibly be the head on your tom drum, because when I first bought my snare drum the snare was really great, the I got a new skin and it had a very annoying overtone, thats when i needed a ring, hoped this helped =|
1 thousand is a pretty low estimate. Zildjian K cymbals cost probably 400 + dollars each. I don't recognize the kit, but high end kits (bass drum, 2 toms and floor tom) might run you close to a grand. A good single bass pedal might be 200 bucks and maybe 350+ for a good double pedal.
4x Zildjian K at ~$400 each
1x High End Kit ~$1000
1x Bass Pedal ~$200
1x Pork Pie Snare? ~$300
1900 bucks not including nice heads, cymbal stands, microphones, drum throne etc.
Most bass pedals are lower than 200 and a double bass that is 350 isn't good its amazing. And the guys at FDL like Jared get their kits for free from Yamaha.
Thatch, I'd never spend this much even on a top of the line kit, but you can spend $500-600 on the most elite double bass pedals (Check instrument websites) and you could drop $300 or more on an elite single bass pedal.
I agree that for much less you can still get a great single/ double pedal.
No thats HIS main kit, you see, Yamaha LENDS them the kits for the shooting of all the lessons, then when there done Yamaha can take them back, all the kits you see in the actual lessons are Yamahas. I am pretty that kit is a DW too.
Really amazing, but I think that some parts were just TOO syncopated. To the point where it just sounded dumb. I don't mean like, whole sections or anything, just like a little 2 bar area would sound weird cause it was just random hits as apposed to good honest syncopation.
Its absolutely amazing, but it seems in some bits you slightly hesitate before next beat or fill, your a better drummer than me but thats just what i think.

Yeah. Drums are expensive.

Actually the Zildjian Ks only run about $300, so knock $400 total off my estimate. Still $1500 might be low for that setup.
