Thank you for uploading this. I never saw the original until now. This is probably the worst production of Lingo I've ever seen-- they spent most of the airtime explaining and reiterating the rules, the production values are poor, and the hostess acts like she's on Quaaludes. The Dutch and US Chuck Woolery versions really improved the game by using a point/euro-based system and better production.
I first heard of a game show Lingo while I was in Niagara Falls in the hotel TV and it aired on Global. The others I seen were Bumper Stumpers, The New Chain Reaction, and I don't know what the others were that I saw that afternoon. However, Lingo was not a seen only on canadian channels, one of the local TV channels back at home had it. It was seen on WXYZ channel 7 at a very late night timeslot like 3 am. I never got to watch the 1987 Lingo at all even it was seen on a Detroit TV station.
luke here's a thought for u try seeing if you can do a different pattern for the no lingo board after you put in the 16 spaces. cause I can see one anybody else?
i think there's more if u notice in the main game mike says there are 3 red balls in the hopper well i counted more than 3. If a show like this gets back give it to NBC or ABC
The 87 version only lasted 1 season, mainly because the production company I think went bankrupt, which screwed many contestants out of their winnings/prizes. The current version is still airing, in its 4th season.
I actually prefer this version of the bonus round more than Bill Envall's version because you can draw Lingo Balls.

Wow! KTMA! I had no idea they showed this... unfortunately, this version of Lingo had met a fate similar to that of its syndicating TV station... :(

It was the first episode, of course the rules needed to be explained. Otherwise, the contestants and the audience would probably get confused.

@CharlieGProductions then again, it was the first episode
most first episodes of shows reiterate the rules a bunch, since not everyone knew them at that time

@CharlieGProductions If it were of me, I would give nothing for solving words and 100 for lingos and 250 for each additional simultaneous lingo

Wow...I've never seen a game show host as Michael Reagan is in this episode...and it was so slow-moving. The GSN version is so much better.

September 28, 1987? That's the day Hilary Duff was born, and 3 weeks after Evan Rachel Wood was born.

this is great.. i'd love to see some clips from other canadian game shows.. like talkabout or bumper stumpers..
mentortormentor 5 years ago
I agree. Both shows were good. Talkabout and Bumper Stumpers!
This Lingo was good as well, if only the producers had money!

i think a version of this should go to gsn and have me host it
namk19 5 years ago
tell that to mr. 2&2 himself (Chuck Woolery)

This Lingo was somewhat controversial, with allegations that the cash-strapped producers didn't pay some winning contestants their prizes.
