  • Put some glitter in it and you ave a 3rd world disco ball XD

  • nice one, cool...

  • they talk about having electricity, so some of them may have light at night. and if not, i'm sure there are candles. but this would save money because a lot of these people are in the slums, or at least at extreme ends of poverty. it's not perfect, but it's still brilliant.

  • Good Video.....

It will take you 10 Years - to pay back on Solar Panels

If you want to short this time to 1-2 Years

Just go to Google and Search for...

    "Top DIY Solar Panels Review"

  • For those of you talking about using this in a 1st world country, We've had the technology for a long time already. They're generally called a light tube, sun pipe, or tubular daylighting device. It's a small clear dome on the roof connected to a highly reflective tube in the attic that mounts to a light spreading reflector in the ceiling.

  • make a drink, make a bong, make a light what can't a coke bottle be used for? Clever idea, many of us are fortunate not to have to worry about this. We should be thankful.

  • Great Idea, coming to a home near you very soon with all the lies about CO2 that these marxists create and closing down generators

  • i thought it would light up even at night.

  • its also a idea for first world countries. make is look nice. Like a bowl shaped class/ plexi glass at the top. with water. boom! there you have light for the day. You'd save so much energy!

  • im really proud of them!! this is great. the last sentence is really so true. This actually made my day. I feel so much happier now.

  • no lite at nite?

  • this is unreal i just cried

  • The reality of it is if they put windows in you still get the heat of the day. Plus these shacks are so close together that it would bring in barely enough light. Think before you put down an amazing innovation.

  • In reality, this isn't about third world ingenuity at all. Can we truly be so small minded as to say that even in first world countries this with modifications wouldn't be a beneficial addition to many homes depending on local building structures? We have homes with skylights as is, why not this as well? It's sheer simplicity, I think is its genius, unconstrained by the limitations of geographic region an idea like this has wide utility, not just in the ghetto either.

  • in the video you can see they already have windows, so yes.

  • a little red dye, and you got your self a 3rd world love shack. great inovation.

  • Man that is amazing!

  • Would be nice if work also during the night with another kind of liquid.

  • Ever thought of doing an opening the size of a window? Duh.......

  • @Noghtrider You need the water to refract the light into the building. Notice at 00:39 when there's just a hole, but how much more light is pulled in by the bottle of water when it's lowered in. Also, you don't appreciate how poor these people are... a window's too expensive not to mention the privacy and security issues with thousands of people living on top of each other.

  • It's amazing how small minded some fools can be!

Yeah!!! Put in a window in my ghetto fabulous house that iiiiisss maaaaybe only four walls interconnected with a million other four walls on the ground floor under rusted corrugated roofing.

Ooooor! I'll step out into the "two foot" walkway and get a tan in the "one foot" beam of light that makes it through the gap in the roofs for two hours a day.

This is an idea that cooould be but,

wasn't meant for your Dads gated community!

    If you have wind

  • I've actually got something similar to this in my house, we call them windows. Similar concept, but slightly bigger and not filled with water/vinegar.

  • Grandiose idea!

  • What a wonderful green idea! I don't think this is just for a, "third world country". That term could apply to any country, just as you could be homeless tomorrow. It is how you deal with these situations that define you. I think this is a "whole world application" to being less dependent on a second or third party energy system. I love it.

  • Absolute genius!!

  • Created in 2002 in Brazil.

  • @scosmico prove it

  • den what happen at night? lol

  • @pola10234 Ummm..It gets dark and they use something else?

  • THIS IS AMAZING!!!

  • Nice now i have learn how to make solar vinigar.

  • why don't they just open the window??

  • @sqwark1126 um, maybe they don't have any windows. ever think of that?

  • @sqwark1126 you think they can afford windows?

  • @48snowbird we do not have winter in the Philippines so it is not a problem:).

  • I wonder how that would work in winter's freezing climates?

  • U guys did a great job, well done, so reliable, very effective for my country ( Burma ).

I thank you to inventor of Philipino. and also best solution for garbage system.

  • thanks for sharing news

  • FANTASTIC!!! Cant wait to see what inventions coming up are!!

  • could send um some food coloring hu

  • Or you could just make a bigger hole in the roof !

  • this is really quite ingenious

  • Magnificent, and amazing Human enginuitye really. MAN-O-MAN...We are really something else when we need to be.

  • pede nmn ang transparent roof right?

  • Amazing this is a real friendly invention. this comes from the Philippines! proud to be Filipino. from empty bottle and a little filling of bleach can makes a 60 watts light. nature friendly! can help climate change!

  • great idea congratulations!

  • Wow good job Ilac. I will not be surprise if one day the President will see you to congratulate and give thanks to this wonderful stuff you have shared for the Filipinos.

  • Did you catch the LIE in this video??? It's great that someone came up with this idea and for it to work is amazing, but the green earth people can't even tell the truth during a 3 minute video. How in the world could this guy save on many of his electric bills when this had only started 1 month ago??? HA! HA! HA! Tells you that this fake global warming group will do anything to get you to feel sorry for someone!

  • @mlabrooks you just made yourself sound like an idiot dude. never did he say anything saving a lot, just that the bills became more manageable

  • Add what to water?

  • @denziljg chlorine bro!!!

  • @denziljg chlorine ata

  • its amazing

  • pure genius :D God Bless

  • beautiful

  • with a little imagination they could cut a hole in the wall and cover it with glass, and if they are really smart they could make it go up and down so they could open it when it gets hot and shut it when it rains. I must be a genius

  • @stevesteve00 so many fails in this statement

  • Terrific! I love this!

  • :-) Look at that?

    Filipino can utilize the nature

All we need is Just a supportive Government to do a research

Filipino talents are around the world

  • remember the ad coke adds life now it is coke adds LIGHT !!

  • 11 people have yet to see the light....

    ...I'll get my coat.

  • and maybe they can put liguid neon mixed with water in the bottle so it can shine when its dark

  • Great idea....but would not be as usefull up here in Québec because of the winter.....but its great for third world countries.

  • What an ingenious idea.

  • ping pong ching chong sunshine you see drirr hore

  • Simply "Einstein"tastic

  • What an amazing idea!

  • WHAT a FANTASTIC idea! so simple to do, and materials are inexpensive! What a great use for cast-off plastic bottles, too! (o: Wonderful!!!!

  • Ingénieux !!! Bravo !!! ..... énergie presque BIO, s'il n'y avait pas la bouteille en plastique !!! LOL !!!

  • 55 watts you say...?!

  • How simple solutions are able to change so many lives

  • What a beautiful gift! So happy for the people in the Philippines!

People such as the guy who came up with this idea deserve to be recognized as international heroes. May this idea spread to all impoverished areas!

  • I noticed there was a large electric fan running on the floor of the room. Where is the power for that coming from?

  • @Pantages98382 From hamsters running on wheels

  • and what if it gets dark outside?

  • @hypedsparkle then a light would have to be turned on, however....think of all the electricity SAVED by not having to turn on lights during the day!!!!

  • @ljwantstohelp thats for sure! nice solution.. better for all of us to use this way of energie :)

  • It,s look like we go after Filipinos , like we did to , Gadafie , Say yes to this .They deserve it .

  • gotta love refraction.

  • The chlorine helps to stop the growth of bacteria and other contaminants from forming in the water. These would cloud the water at best, and cause the bottle to burst and spill its contents below at worst.

    Love strong, love long.

  • @KaraokeSC Ooh, cool. Thanks :D

  • What does the chlorine do?

  • Great, but they need light at night -- then what?

  • @MrJoeochap It seems that they do have lights in the house, but since electricity seems to be very expensive, they use those bottle lights during the day saving them money on their electric bill. And even if they didn't have electricity, you can use candles during the night time and keep them stored during the day time.

  • @MrJoeochap

At night, they go to sleep. Figure that.

  • Darn - that's gonna drive up the price of soda bottles in the Phillipines! But seriously, great idea! What a neat thing for all those homeowners.

  • Dumbass Obama and Solandra should of met with these guys lol......

  • I love it. Bravo innovative boy.

  • i've done some searching from google, this thing was not invented here in the philippines.. from what i've red there are two results who invented this solar bottle, either a Brazilian mechanic or the students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.. i did not dwell on finding out who really invented it bec. i got tired of reading from so many results that was useless..

  • amazing

  • Fica a dica: "Uma garrafa de Coca-Cola de 2 Litros cheia de água, uma telha de zinco recortada, duas colheres de cloro para evitar crescimento de algas e um buraco no teto."

  • WOW!! I'm impressed!! What GREAT green technology!!...and a great way to help people!!

  • Innovative!

  • Brilliant!

  • Human will tend to think when they want to save and this is a smart way.

  • amazing :)

  • Why not simply use a piece of plexiglass where the hole in the roof was cut.

  • @bobinny because it is expensive, and the ppl there are so poor they caqnt afford to use their electricity, and everyone can find plastic bottles??? dont try to be so smart... smh

  • Whatya gonna do at night philipinoes?

  • @orkeer turn electric lights on.

  • How can anyone dislike this?!

  • this is proof that you can get free energy without paying for the electricity companies. the problem is, big corporations cannot make profit out of free energy and so they would not want people to have this. imagine if the world was free of greed from the highest level, and they implemented this idea to make advanced versions of this simple bottle, and implemented other sources of free energy? this video needs more views : /

  • @machicniii - the reality is that there is plenty of money to be made, just like the guy who was charging to install the units in the video. If a company wanted to come along and cheaply mass produce sealed / standardized / and easily installed (and replaced units) there is plenty of money to be made. The reality is that profit motive is the only thing that motivates people. Even green energy companies are motivated by profit (primarily through government subsidies).

  • If you look at the other similar videos on your right, that "innovation" dates way back to 2002 in Brasil

  • No windows?

  • @JVonD in some places houses are too close to each other that sunlight doesnt go in thru the windows.

  • As they say, necessity is the mother of invention. This is truly wonderful.

  • But the question is: will it lit up at night?? Only that will make me reconsider of an idea of mass producing it.

  • @hulago1234 you are missing the point. at night you use regular electric light bulbs.

  • fantastic! what was the chemical added to the water? how long does it last?

  • @catluvnj chlorine = This prevents the water from turning green with algae. It makes no difference to the light except that it keeps the water transparent so that sunlight can get through easily.

  • Wonderful!

  • That's incredibly clever, the person who came up with this deserves a cookie.

  • طريقة ذكية ومجانية لانارة البيوت في الفلبين

  • I wouldn't mind using this idea to add light to my attic.

  • am i the only one that thinks......that the sponsor for this thing is the famous black liquid company? :)

  • 7 people work for the electric company (7 dislikes)!

  • Great Filipino Innovation! The dislikes came from Napocor and Meralco! LOL

  • @agelnik e etsi opws pane ta pragmata..mallon!

  • Pretty cool. It can help a lot of 3rd world countries!

  • What if it gets dark outside? 0.o

  • @stannypk5k9 they have electricity still, they just save a bunch of money by not having to use it during the day. At night they will continue to use electricity as they did before.

  • and at night?

  • Great now Obama can give these people over 4 billion dollars in low interests loans. Oh, that will not work , he only gives that to his kool aid supports.

  • but they still get any light during NIGHT time? ? ? ?

  • what happen when it rain? i think u need a rubber seal around it.

  • @game3341 Yes Sir , they do put seal to prevent leaking.

  • Thank you for sharing this information... We must remember - does it really matter 'who' or 'where' this understanding of energy comes from? No... the fact is - we are benefiting from this!

  • that just amazing.............

  • @placeta Not really.

  • tangnang meralco ka ang taas taas maningil tapos lagi pa brownout ha!

    eto ka ngayon! palag?

  • Natural Energy!!!

  • but how do you turn it off?

  • clever!!!

  • awesome, must be why the govts are flooding the philipines now and making earthquakes there . govt dont like that free energy , its no good for their business

  • Filipinos are amazing people #epic :) By the way Im a handsome Filipino follow me on Twitter @jeipstan

  • This was pioneered in 2002 in Brazil. Not a Filipino invention. For further proof, click on the "Use a 2-liter bottle as a 50-watt light bulb" on your right (by KAWUNEARTH)...Give credit to the proper inventor.

  • lolz the Philippines isn't even a 3rd world country. It went beyond that classification a long time ago.

  • Elak Diaz, the inventor, of simple system of providing Solar light from water bottles and chlorine, whose ambition is to provide light to one millions homes in Philippines is also welcome to Bombay. The least that Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation could do is select him for the invention. He may talk to me through Skype (drleorebello) for special interview. Dr. Leo Rebello

  • Tap electricity free using sunlight aplenty. In dark, dingy rooms of slums this is a invention offer a boon to poor slum dwellers. With some contraption added to it, solar electricity can also be used in the night, when it is needed most.

  • innovative and inexpensive!

    It benefits the needy....

  • Does this mean people are getting some sort of tanning in their own house too?

  • Awesome invention! Especially for those that don't have money for electricity now can save $ for other stuff like food.

  • This is real Coca Cola LIGHT!! :D

  • awesome :)

  • Comment removed

  • So does it light up at night?

  • @112makoto does sun shine at night?its called solar for a reason.

  • @112makoto of course not, its solar means sunlight, you need to use your electricity at night. also your brain

  • @paolothemaster what as it got to do with my brain?

  • My gawd! This is awesome! I almost dropped my jaw on this invention

  • @dirtyscrotumpuncher how do you turn gays into professional boxers?

  • A Brazilian engineer invented this in 2002.....

  • @imanhorned no one cared

  • thanks for all your comments, I enjoy them also!

  • Such a simple technology that guy is a genius -- even in this US economy we can be doing the same with our plastic bottles -- wow

  • Does the clorine need to be continually added back to the water every few months or so? Would love the answer!!

    T Y!!

  • Watch out they will put up the price on plastic bottles

  • Electric fan at 0:40. Must spin it by hand.

  • Clorine to stop algae and mold growth. Maybe would need a little alchohol in freezing climates.

    Sweet idea.

They sleep at night. Or make babies.

  • @peckerwood57

they have electricity - just no sunlight during the day. they show them using electric lights - but, this is a way to bring in sunlight (like a sunroof), without the heat and without having the electric lights running all day long.

  • @peckerwood57

It's the tropics. They don't get freezing climates.

  • why chlorine?

  • This is a DIY solution and I would like to sponsor 1000 lights. And if each of the half a million millionaires in the world would support the cause, there would be no physical darkness in any more homes, anymore

  • @MrHollyoake can I set up your donation for use in Zambia? I think it would be great if you're still willing to sponsor 1000 bottles!
