Solid simple response to failure. I love it! When we fail, we are letting our ego and our desire to not lose face dictate our actions in the face of adversity. To give into that fear of failure is a form of laziness. We all need this reminder (including myself)
And, yes, he's very effeminate but he also embodies one of the greatest attributes that one could have: Humor. He is honest in all action, and can laugh at even the most uncomfortable subject, and his security perhaps angers some.
@neothespian yeah i think at that time rinpoche was pushing some of his students to push themselves to go to the next level to write. Rinpoche also said when we wake up in the morning we have set a good thought, so we set the tone ( environmental causes ) for the rest of the day. If we create good environmental causes ( in our minds) , more positive karma can manifest and the bad ones cannot full manifest as a result.
Rinpoche has a blog too, on twitter and facebook. Also there is a forum.
Failure or success are concepts in our samsaric existence. Homage to the Three Jewels and Dharma is all that matters when we finally leave this physical body we all cherish and look after day in and day out.
Winners and successful people are those that keep trying and failing many times over before they finally hit the jackpot. We encounter setbacks for everything in our life but doesn't mean that we should give up especially if it is our spiritual practice.
Dear Redtortoise76: No worries because none taken. I have heard from many that he is gay-acting and feminine at times especially when he starts joking. I don't know why but I think High Lamas have combined both male and female energies so it manifest in what you call gay body language and mannerisms.
Successful people whether in spiritual or worldly life dare to fail tremendous amount of time before they succeed. Losers are those who refuse to fail or give up easily.
You know...very simple. Buddha said that those who think they will fail or cannot do it is a huge form of laziness. Laziness will not bring one attainments or Buddhahood. I have to tell myself everyday.
When we fail or fall, we should stand up again, Just like when we fall down, we will definitely get up and walk again, same apply here, if you fail, nevermind, do it again, learn from the mistake, do analyse why you fail to do the job previously, this is the key of success, Should never give up so fast, have faith and trust to yourself.....
Ooops... never gets on Rinpoche's nerve... hehe... how true... we just refuse to try again n again.. normally i would give after 3rd or 4th try... thinking that I will never succeed... how stupid am I... thank you Rinpoche for your dramatic advice.
This video is incredible - so short but a profound teaching in itself. It is one of the reasons why I believe so strongly that dharma and a guru is good for us. Dharma and guru training gives you confidence. I really liked it when Rinpoche said no one succeeds on their first try - Dharma definitely gives you an ability to accept failure and move on from that.
Well.......... it sounds familiar here....i prefer to keep proclaiming i m failed, i m failed and let other feel pity on me....rather than start to move on... and guru is right.....none is more annoying than ppl like me... Would i remain such person? My own choice huh...
This is so true, failure is part of the learning curve, and if you don't fail, then you'll never learn how to do it right. I think most well-known inventors like Soiichiro Honda and Alexander Graham Bell are famous only for their successes, but people hardly discuss about their failures. What most people don't realize is that people like Honda and Bell went through a lot of failures before getting their act right. The same goes for spiritual practice, I'm sure.
Mind training is very important here, i believe Rinpoche want to deliver a message is -- Never give up......even if you fail, get up and do again, until you success, this area you will learn alot why you fail, and what you should do and should not do again.......
Its all about the mind here, we should try all the way and move on. Doesnt mean that we failed once and thats it. I believe we should always give the best and if we correct our mistakes then we will get the correct result one day.
We will fail if we tell ourselves we dare not take the challenge and we will always be stuck never growing. It applies to me as when I pushed myself to explore and try, even if I do not do it so well, it improves my experience, that my chances or failing have been reduced if not eliminated .
How insightful ! Everyone can learn little by little. Nothing happens without reason. We have to do something if we want to change for the better. I realize that...
I was the idiot in these teachings that said I was scared I'd fail! (haha) I just couldn't get over myself and then but with Rinpoche's kindness, pushing and teachings, I've come a long way - our publishing house has more than 10 books out now (and the newest one just came out!) and I've learnt (through my recent experiences in Nepal) that you really can do anything as long as you put your mind to it and have confidence in yourself. Thank you Rinpoche.
Rinpoche skilfully uses drama to make us sit up and pay attention. What's important is not how you fail but what you do after it that counts. Get over your ego and MOVE UP!!
Yes it's true that all of us to a certain extent have this fear of failure. Rinpoche is so funny in pointing it out to us but that's really how our tricky minds work! I like tha rinpoche shows there's actually not that much to be scared of after all. Just gotta face it and do it!!!
This video is seemingly short and has no Dharma when in fact it contains the essence of tantric practice: which is to conquer fears of failing and do it despite having those fears. How deep yet hard to realize!! its all in this short clip alone!! neonlama(dot)com
Failure is very scary for everyone, but the only way to overcome failure is only by facing it, correcting it and improving from there. There is no other way to stop your fear other than this method which is why it is important to keep going on although things get scary. related video: watch?v=byPq0vOFJw8

the thought of failure is a very scary one and it is not easy to face it. But to consistently think that we are going t o fail even before doing something is a bad habit that can cause things to go wrong even before they start. The correct attitude is to just do it irregardless of whether or not you fail and only focus on getting it going. kecharahouse(dot)com
Failing is something that everyone will encounter..but what is important is not staying down after failing but moving up. The phobia of failing is very strong, but if that can be overcome, better things will come your way.
H.E.Tsem Rinpoche took rebirth in Taipei, Taiwan where he was recognized as a Tulku at 7 months old, but his mom refused to let him go. Then taken to N.J.,USA. From Jersey, he left to California where he met his root guru H.H.Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, where Kyabje Zong Rinpoche re-recognized him again. In 1987 he left for Gaden in South,India where He was officially enthroned. In 1992,chosen by Lati Rinpoche to go to Malaysia where he went on and off to teach. He resides in Malaysia full time now.
Imagine what would happen if we could all say to ourselves, "Is this failure? Well, just look around this room. Everyone here has failed at least once! And you know what they did, they picked themselves up and they MOVED ON!"
It's not easy to admit that we have failed in the first place, but to admit and to be stuck on "I failed" and not doing anything to remedy the situation would be a complete waste of time. To overcome this one must find solutions and stop hypnotising yourself that you will fail. neonlama(dot)com

No one made it with the first try, it is true, that when we are scare of failing it is sure a sign of ego by not wanting to look stupid.
Therefore we always say, we cant, I cannot and stuffs like that. you fail 19 times but passed Once, you still Pass..
These words hit me to the face Directly! Love your teachings Rinpoche!

With respect Rimpoche, surely there must be a better way than to take one and a half minutes to say
You FAIL if you believe you are going to fail!
there may even ba danger that the wonderful insightful teaching may be lost in the dramatics
Respectfully

there is a lot of meaning with his dramatic potrayal. Dramatism is needed to break through mental barriers, and also to attract drama queens as well.
