As bad as Nazi Germany was, at least they had valid, actual music. Unlike the so-called kitsch limited scale garbage we call "music" today (complete with vulgar lyrics, as if repetitive loops of oversaturated bass wasn't vulgar enough)
We need to do something about the dysgenic effect on culture. The modern "artist" Dadaist, and modern "architects" are to blame. We need to do something about boring squares and bring back civilized architecture (e.g.: Cotswold, Victorian, Federalist, etc)

If you want to go listen to a classical piece there are still concerts out there offering that kind of music.What your doing a common fault in the human race is looking down on those different its a mistake we seem not to learn from.

While a lack of Americans would have helped Hitler's cause, it would not have been a guarantee for everything. A thousand years is quite long and it is likely that successors might have broken it all up.
It would even have been possible that his empire would have collapsed in his own lifetime, one can't know.

You don't like Beethovan? Which musicians from 18th to 19 th century are not xenophobic and chauvinistic? We can't ban all the music we don't like. Few music of that era is not at all xenophobic and chauvinistic and without bias and prejudice. Most have good intentions and ideas. I find it unpleasant and futile to focus on or to be consumed by the negatives. I like music but am not an expert. I like the lyrics of 9th, but am not exnophobic or chaunistic, hoping you are not suggesting I am.

It's been more than a Century from the Holocaust but still all swastikas and nazi figures symbolize crime and hate as its worst, and in some ways I can understand how paradoxical Beethoven may sound in this context of the filmed document when even The Führer had some artistic habilities in painting. As Schiller wrote, AGAINST THE STUPIDITY THE GODS THEMSELVES FIGHT IN VAIN.

Obviously it's my mistake on Holocaust numbers 1940's-2000 so I do apologize for it, also if I was not so clear when commented about Hitler's hobby as paintor, because it seems that only arts can have the great power to gather good with bad people as in this case did Beethoven's music, to remind us we are plain and simple mortal human beings, after all.

Furtwangler un mito solo per quel po' di Beethoven e Brahms, per il resto il suo Wagner era più intellettuale che musicale, e lo è soprattutto per quelli che evidentemente hanno in mente il film americano ( Hollywood come sempre sogna una sua propria storia e cultura lontana da quelle reali ) oppure i pochi clichès postati in wikipedia, che è il luogo di raccolta di tutta la spazzatura internet e tutta a senso unico, in un'unica direzione anglosaxon way .

Inconcepibile anche una sola nota della 9a con la svastica dinanzi agli occhi; il finale poi non è prestissimo, è melma musicale.

Italia, España y muchos otros países se aliaron en la segunda guerra mundial con la Alemania Nazi... inclusive quienes les vendieron armamento fueron empresas estadounidenses, aquellos que ahora se quieren ver como los "veladores de la paz mundial"....
Dejando de lado todo este contexto, esta es una de mis interpretaciones favoritas de la novena sinfonía, las percusiones al final le dan un aire un poco marcial.

i have heard of many versions of Beethoven 9.
i think it is the best version ever. you can download the full version including all five movements from Emule. (Specially, the second movment, so brilliant. )i was deeply shocked when i firtsly listen.
the second best one is Karajan, BPO, 1963
the third best one is Berstain, BPO, 1989
