ive been in the AF for about a year now, most of what you saw in this video was BEAST week and FEST. the rest of bmt (not including the gas chamber, O-course and PT) is pretty much more about discipline and working as a single unit. alot of BMT is actually spent inside the dorms, thats the real hard part. you are cut off from the outside world and your life is pretty much constricted down to your dorm. its alot of mind games that you just gotta overcome.
Something like that. I've been through BMT recently. During the BEAST ( Basic Enlisted Airman Skills Training) week, we got down and crawled in the dirt. It was a blast.
The USAF is better off bring in Army DI's or revamp the whole idea of basic in the formula used by the army. back in the late 80's ...there was talk of making one basic training formula for all services. It would be geared towards a USMC format.
all recruits go through 3 months...then head off to their AIT in their choosen branch of the service.
@brent52 ive heard the only difference from usmc and army bootcmap was usmc 0 week they get issue where army does that at reception. Swim week and more D&C. From a couple marines who transferred to the army.
that 1 type of basic sounds perfect specially with navy & AF doing convoys overseas
I joined the Air Force in 1998, and this was not the basic training we went through. The only marching we ever did was to the chow-hall. If you had us run with weapons, someone would have gotten their foot blown off. We spent or time picking the god damn strings off our uniforms. Our "field exercise" was just a boy scout campout with MRE's. They even stole the gum and coffee from our MRE packets.
This looks a lot more exciting and rewarding than the boredom they put us through.
TSgt Perry Was a blue rope when I went through the 323rd. Called me to the snake pit one time and made me look a complete idiot haha. After town pass he gave me hell when some buddies and I came back with Nintindo DS's and a pokemon games fun times.
Glad to see the Air Force step up! When I was in 20 years ago Basic Training was a "joke". The Air Force was always concidered wimpy by other services. The reality is... you can get "KIA". The Air Force has adapted to the times and needs to continue doing so. Our country depends on you! Go Air Force!
And to think my peers used to call me "Nuts!" (to use a polite term), when I said, "There needs to be some real Combat Training in this so-called FTX", during this mindless overnight exercise in Medina Annex, dodging laser pointer "fire", one night in the first week of May, 1999.
I guess if you can overcome all that there, you can do pretty well in most similar situations as long as you remember.

I love how all the other branches make their boot camp seem easy, but turns out to suck, but AF does the opposite.

I never saw TSgt Perry with his sleeves down. They were rolled up when it was haling and freezing cold outside.

TSgt Perry was my MTI too. That dude shaved off his eyebrows the first night we met him. Scary looking guy, very intense!
