The main gripe that people are having is that he is playing a bass with a pick (which I don't see the problem with) but he is also playing it (the bass) like an electric guitar. Which brings up the matter of why he didn't just play it on an electric guitar.

Mind you, regardless of how he did it, he played It well and deserves praise.

Using a pick gives the bass a little more edge, therefore, making it useful in genres that need it (i.e. harder rock diving into metal).
