  • Good listen

  • union babies

  • I'm glad I read the comments down here, these videos were really getting aggravating and confusing! I feel more comfortable reading comments for the 1st time. THANKS RESPONDERS!

  • 1470 PASSPORT A DAY ACCURIST CHRONOGRAPH ALARM W R 100M ROLEXION/OFF PROCESSOR 1470

  • I have all my volume controls set to max and I can't hear a word she's saying.

  • what a cob job LOL

  • this is SO frustrating to watch...

  • gold screw - hot leg / black red blue

silver screw - neutral / white

forget reading the back of the receptacle.

oh and never stab. hook around the screw.

    thanks bye.

    Local Union #3 NYC

  • @MrForhireee Hey hell ya Local 3 I should be joining them some day !

  • This is amusing...and dangerous. It's an unprofessional video showing a comedy of errors. Looks like she's learning as she goes.

  • UL the head of the electric safety in america the checks everything that is electric says you can do it this way..only outlets in the 80s started having the backstabs holes and it might be faster. but I DONT, terminals r safer and i also use UL electric tape on the terminals..

  • WARNING:

DO NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF EXPERT VILLAGE. AN ELECTRICAL EXPERT IS AN ELECTRICIAN, SHE IS NOT AN ELECTRICIAN. NONE OF THEM ARE. ALL THE ADVICE IS BAD AND MAY RESULT IN DEATH VIA ELECTRIC SHOCK.

  • the back is when you run out of room to connect wires

  • the back is when you have three whites and three black hat is what the back if for

  • @mr854johnathan

no, then you splice and tail off, never use the back stabs

  • worst instructional video ever..... obviously, she is not an electrician

  • If no one "Backstabs" electrical outlets, then why does the company put that option on the back of every outlet they sell????? WHY are they there? Did they just spend a bunch of money on design and machines that CREATE these holes for no one to use them??

  • I agree and hate to beat a dead horse, but if tour back stabbing receptacles you probally shouldent be giving advice let alone making how to videos...

  • A WOMAN!?!?!?!?

  • OMG>>>>What the F*&K was that.

  • She Needs To Take Off Her Rings When Working With Electrical

  • never stick it in the holes of the back of the outlet weak connection

  • Geez, you let someone plug in a USB cable and now they can rewire the house.

  • Agreed! Not enough wire to work with, plus it took almost a minute to connect to the grounding screw.

  • I cannot resist: The Expert Village is missing its Idiot; she's on here!

    USE THE SCREWS!!!

  • wtf!!!!

  • And you need to strip at least 4 inch off wire. This lady is Bad !

  • White or black just get them on and don't do a crap job. Must be neat and not tuching the box.

  • you should never hook the black first on a outlet. you have to start with the safety first your white wire and your bare copper wire then your hot wire at last witch is your black wire...it seems that the outlet was not hot but still you have to follow the same steps as if it would of had been hot ..well hopefully she doesn't gets no one shock by listening to her lessons .lol

  • I am just gob smacked, I know you can't legislate against stupidity, but, really this aint no laughing matter, lol..... American electricity must be alot safer to the touch, must be that 60hz eh, passes through the body alot quicker, less pain more dead.

  • why is there never two sets of wires coming into the boxes does n't anyone run series wires from out let to outlet any more?

  • can I replace a toggle on/off switch with an outlet. I have a switch in my kitchen from an old garbage disposal and it's no longer needed, can I take it out and put a outlet in ..in it's place? thanks

  • @ILoveLucyE68NY its a switch not power.. yes you can but find the right wires and well... ya S:

  • I like it when a chick says to push it in the hole all the way in... but, backstabs??? really? I did not even realize they still made those. always use the screws.

  • Stick it in the whole, push it all the way in ???!!!!

  • not correct sorry

  • backstabing the wiring for outlets iss proven to fail over time, the spring tensioners relax and open the circuit or loosen and cause heat and fires- you know nothing about electrical work yet you dispence information on somthing you know nothing about- you could cause someones house to burn down

hope you feel great about that

  • Electrical work should be done by trained electricians only and not "Do it yourself" home owners that read a book or watch a video and have no understanding of how everything works or carries any liability if something goes wrong. Being in the trade for 6 years pisses me off when people bitch about poor workmanship or an electrician and how it was a electrical fire and blame the last contractor because the homeowner doesn't want to void their home owners insurance and blame someone else.

  • Wow...these ExpertVillage videos are going to get someone killed. This woman's bio says she's a FLORIST for God's sake! I would never tell her how to arrange flowers! People, this is why there is an electrical CODE and why we electricians (the good ones, anyway) follow it like our bible. The code is made for one reason---SAFETY. This woman did nothing right and I urge amateurs NOT to follow it. We don't backstab a receptacle because the connection is poor and leads to open circuits.

  • Ok, ok so there were some mistakes. We all get the point she did alot of things wrong. How about constructive feedback. You guys are being brutal. How about put on your own video so everyone can comment on how bad you are doing it. Put up or shut up. All the expertise in the world cant make up for being a dick! If there are so many experts here, why dont you post your channel i want to see your video.

  • @xZackJenn Shut up, go join the experts, Idiot!!!

  • the outlet she uses is made for use in manufactured homes ONLY thats why it has no screws on the sides.

  • At a first glance I saw 5 things wrong! A lot of times in my work I find 7 things wrong. She gets 1/10 Also it makes it 5 times more difficult to install the receptacle!

  • what kind of electrical tool is that? i want one! if anybody knows can you please message me!

  • as much as i know the ground wire should be connected 1st, then nuetral, then hot. wow!! electrical work is more than just doing it, most importantly you gotta overstand it!! safety 1st. as pctech said step 1 call a licensed electricain

  • @StephenSelassie Is long as you get them on right and there not tuching the box your fine. nuetral or hot. Just get it on and neat dont to a shity job.

  • Lets see what you did not do right: conductor fill, backstabbing, wire termination, that clearly looks like a new construction box not an old work, which means that the cable has no clamps where it enters the box, so that means you need a cable staple(or other mounting device) within 10" of the box, hmm how are you going to do that with the drywall up.

......More like Un-expert village. Stop showing people how to burn houses down.

  • it would help out if you gave yourself more than 3 inches of wire to work with you only need a 1/4 inch of insulation in the box

  • @Gillmaster22

and at least 6 inches of wire from where it enters the box

  • Anyone that uses backstabs is a jackleg. End of story.

This entire video is incorrect. Im not picking on the chick, but she really shouldnt be showing people how to do any form of electrical work.

  • @AvatarOfAvatar ya for sure...no contact surface from those at all.

  • NEC requires you should only have a 1/2 inch of the jacket in the box not 4 inches. You should also have at LEAST 6'' of wire coming out of the box from the top. Its not doing any harm but she should of wraped the ungrounded and nutral wires around the terminals. Dont quit your day job.

  • @Electrotime 1/2 inch of solid sheet is too much! more like 1/4.-1/2. it is extremely unsafe to wire threw the back holes(back stabbing). it is unsafe, and should be banned! plus we don't know how much power is on this breaker! if this is 20a. she is due for a fire. i find your rateings rather unsafe as well! don't quit your day job! don't know where you live but if it was in philly (best place to work as an electrician) you got some jawn to learn and a whole lot of jawn!

  • This is totally wrong. The sheathing isn't even stripped back to the box as it should be. Code requires at least 6 in of wire. This would fail inspection.

  • I like what she says at 0:50. Lol!!

  • Comment removed

  • If shes so bad, why aren't some of you "pro's" putting up a How To video of your own ? I mean... if your all THAT good, show us!

  • Because if you are not a licensed electrical instructor and someone looses property or their life, you may be held legaly responsible in a court of law. Remember... doing unlicensed work alone is a felony punishable by up to 3 years and/or a 10,000 dollar fine. (At least that is the case in MN) I would tell you if something is dangerous and what the code would expect, but there is no way I would show someone else physically how to do the work.

  • Why dont u loosen the screw a little more insted of struggling to get it around

  • For you fellow electricians ... Who thinks there is something wrong with hooking up the ungrounded conductor first ? besides me ..lol , was this a tutorial or a goof reel , classic.post your answer plz. i love to hear what u think. there are so many idiots working in the electrical trade.the one i shed blood, sweat and tears for,, it make me puke!!! Get the f out an get behind a desk.

  • i cant beleive they would ai this its some of the worst ive ever seen people dont do this at home terrble work get an electrican to do the work for you

  • OMG!! In addition to what has already been pointed out, how about stripping the jacket? You must leave minimum 1/4" in the box, not 4 inches. I must be following her around everyday :P

  • there is so many things wrong with this video.

    1) you need minimum 6 inches working length of wire. she has maybe 2 inches.

    2) she did not hook up the strap ground in the device box. yes its plastic but its still necessary.

    3) Dont Ever use the speed holes in the back of receptacles. they fail.

    4) GET YOUR RING OFF

    5) buy real tools.

If my employess did a receptacle like that they'd be sweeping the floor and carrying wire for people who could do it properly.

  • dont forget only 1 inch of romex sheething should be in the box and shes using a standard nail in box just pushed in not an old work box

  • JSRmontcalm: To no.2, u mean by the device box the GI or PVC (in this case) junction box (3X3 or 3X6 ...)?

  • no thats a device box. whatever material its made out of the bonding conductor must be connected

  • hahahaha

  • Markahlquist......spot on !!! That should hit 123emmy in the face. :=)

  • she might knew that but it doesn't seem professional lol. (i'm not either). I came across this vid by accident bc im acutally looking for how to run new wire connections from existing wires. Kind of hard to explain what i'm looking for lol. Good luck for those amateur like me ;)

  • what do you need help with exactly?

  • thanx for the offer :) I was trying to install can lights with a switch, but i didnt know where to start pretty much but i did it with some online help lol. thanks tho :d

  • @ositoxoxo

step 1. call a licensed Electrician, and DO NOT try it your self, easiest way to get yourself hurt

  • She wouldn't have so much trouble if she stripped the romex all the way back, ontop of that she should have went with a receptacle with screws as stated below. Stab in anything just makes me uneasy. I do give her props for going out and doing it and making a video though!

  • These vids can be useful to people. If you commenter guys are so smart, why are you you looking for lessons on how to do basic wiring? I guess you don't want your boss to know how stupid you are...

  • We're trying to save lives by looking for dangerous wiring techniques on YouTube. There are many code violations in this video that could result in a fire or electricution.

  • Expert Village should be taken off youtube for allowing such crap to air to people who dont know any better somebody could get hurt or even killed by these wanna be electricians showing you all the wrong things to do. makes us professionals look really bad.

  • no the order of wireing is first the ground sound u are safe(hello), the your wite. the wite is aka nurtral wire then last is your hot wire. that is the one that caryies your curnt to our plug and will always have power un lest turn off at the main breaker and if there a swicht in the line

  • how am i an ignorant cunt? im ignorant towards these ignorant cunts who are do it yourselfers trying to show how to do something that should be left to the pros.... being a licensed electrician i see this shit all the time and it really burns my ass, just like salt on your tongue now think before you open your dumbass mouth

  • No asshole, you should. ".... get back to doing the dishes you fuckin retarded woman, all women are fucking retarded and only good for their pussy ". That is what pissed me off and that is why your ignorant, stupid and a cunt. Your ignorant because you watched one woman do something you didnt like and you apply it to all women YOU DUMB FUCK!

  • well if u can think of anything they actually are good for wed like 2 hear it... and your calling me a cunt to insult me, what do women have man? sorry man but i dont waste my time with hypocitical losers :)

  • oh god i should have known u were a limey only u would be dumb enough to yak bak at somebodys hatemail online, now you really arent worth anybodys time cause A) you live in the UK and B) your teeth are bad and were gonna beat you this season of TUF

  • wow! what a total amateur! hope she doesn't break a nail.

  • this is bollox

  • wow... just plain lame. Did that recepticle just magically appear in your wall? How did you get the wire there? Did you turn the power off? it is my great hope that you and all your fellow hacks at Expert Village Electrocute themselves as a public service to humanity so that no one else will be endagered by you fukers.

  • 2008 NEC rules: 1) 1/4" minimum sheathing inside the box. You can leave as much as you want but it looks like poor unexperienced workmanship when you do. 2) The old rule was 6" of wire to work with. This was confusing to some people because they didn't know if that meant from the front or back of the box. So idiots would cut at 6" inside a 9" deep box. Pretty dumb. The new rule is 6" minimum with at least 3" past the finished surface of the box. I still leave 6" out of curtisy for the next guy.

  • 3) you can't just wrap the ground wire around the green screw, there's a code for that too.

  • Actually, you do just wrap the wire around and tighten it down. So long as it is wraped clockwise so the screw doesn't push out the wire. Thwe wire also cannot be aluminum, and if the box is metal, it to has to be grounded to the same ground wire (10-32 screw min.). For a quality installation, don't leave extra hanging out the other side of the screw either and wrap the black (hot) and the white (neutral) as well. The back stabs are faster but are a poor quality connection.

  • Actually I missed one more thing wrong =7 things wrong!

The last one was leaving a needle like STIFF short end at the ground SCREW! = good to pierce through the other wires when pushed ALL THE WAY IN!

P.S. all explanations (not directed to her) replay a good sex act when installing a receptacle! (One could even loose his shorts laughing!

  • This is not a real American electrician and she should NOT be giving any advice at all. Useing a leatherman for pliers, not realistic. Wearing the rings is for sure an unqualified statement. Backstabing the wire to the outlet just causes the little pin inside to burn off and you lose power. Hopefully it won't be the neutral wire in a multiwire circut that is fed thru the outlet instead of pigtailed in the box. Trust me, it's bad and almost always an expensive lesson to learn.

  • First of all, Patrik, your impulse to look at one individual as a whole group just displays your ignorance...

And secondly,it's spelled "awful", as in your English..

As for Americans, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison come to mind..

Now go find your superior Swedish tools and shove them up your ass...

  • when i wire an outlet, i make sure the wire is stapled to the wall within 6 inches of the box, i like to use the logical punchout on the back, to indicate which way the line is comming from, i leave myself 5 inch tails, with at least 1 inch of insulation on the wire in the box, I strip 3/4 inch off each wire, and make a ? shape, making sure to angle it back a little bitso its a ? and not a J, always orient the wire around the post, so it pulls the wire in when you tighten it, not pushing it out

  • also, its always better to use the post connectors, not the push ins. The push ins work, but are not as secure, more of a pain to remove, and removing them can cause you to crack outlet.

  • I found them in my basement....electricians did that work...I could go on about all the shit those electricians did, im just slowly fixing their shit.

  • I find that the push ins work fine, both ways, they are supposed to give a good hold in order to keep in the wire, there is a hole above the push in that you stick in a paper clip or small screwdriver (while the breaker is off of course), that lets you easily pull out the wire, thicker wire mist be conected to the posts though

  • Any respectable electrician will tell you not to 'stab' a receptacle or switch. Wrap the wires around the screw terminals on the sides.

Also... Electricity 101: Always make ground connections, first. Neutrals are completed next. Hots are the last to be connected.

For crying out loud, strip the jacket back on that Romex. No more than an inch inside of any junction box. Makes it easier to tuck back the required 6" of wire required to be pulled OUTSIDE of the box for future maintenance work.

  • WHAT AN IDIOT

When making up a junction box--

1)There should be 1 inch of the outer cable jacket entering the box (provides extra protection for the idiviually insultaed wires)

    2) The indivdual wire need to have a tail of 6 inches as per the national electrical code (the tail is the amount of wire that can be pulled clear out of the box)

    3) When twisting the wire around the terminanl screw - the wire should be tight, and make about 3/4 of a turn ONLY, not sloppy all the way around.

  • you should not have more than an inch of sheething entering the box

  • wow sister, give yourself some room to work on that outlet, your only supposed to have a 1/2 on the casing on the wire inside the box and leave your 3 wires long.

  • wow...amateur-hour all the way
