  • Go'On Jo!

  • a humble beautiful man

  • For one town to produce so much talent and a modest man on a bicycle as well !!

I'll ride along beside all these great men and then I too will one day stop pedaling

And I'll say my goodbye to you all, it is some ride and some tall stories told in getting

to where we are dispatched back the road we came, slán.

  • NOBODY BETTER

  • Pure Magic .thanks for great gigs and wonderful memories

  • Epic

  • How Liam could tell a story! He gives this, and all his other songs to life as few could.

  • @Horsemarine100 Well said.

  • read your biography on air lingus. -- sorry I missed the good times when you might have given us a song.

  • I got confused, I always thought Steve Goodman wrote it. Checked and it was Michael Smith; apologies

  • outstanding

  • God bless Liam and thank you for all the great songs you shared

  • Who Wrote This . Great uploads . Thank you

  • @lisheencrona John Prines best friend,a man called steve Goodman, look him up......please,you'll thank me later

  • Who Wrote This. Great uploads . Thank you

  • Thank you for this version. The introduction is as special as the song. I made an audio tape of this show sometime back and it is special.

I have no idea what gave Michael Smith the inspiration for this song. It is certainly his finest. Rumour has it that he had never been to Holland when he wrote it - still may never have been.

To me this is the benchmark version - I have not heard a better yet.

  • I feel so sad that younger generations may not learn to love him as I have.

  • Such a gorgeous song, very moving.

  • what a song, always comes up at a lock in at a wedding or something, haha

  • Ah Liam, you will be as sorely missed as Luke, two finer song masters I've never heard (or ever will). Rest in peace

  • It's hard to imagine a more perfect match between singer and song.

  • Such a beautifull and touching song. This is one of the best versions ever. So moving ...

  • I'm listening to him on RTE radio and if he's not the nicest man who ever lived, I'm the Dutchman. It is a program from John Bowman, "From The Archives", I will stick a link later, Fabulously upsetting. it is two episodes from last week and today and to think that as a child and young man, I ridiculed these people, they were older, different and much better at getting buy than I, I hope I've improved.

  • I grew up listening to this on the Makem and Clancy Concert of a Lifetime cassette tape on every driving trip... it makes me think of my grandfather nowadays, since he had some mini-strokes that left him confused sometimes in the years before he died. It's so beautiful. Rest in Peace, Liam, and also Tommy Makem, who sang so well together.
