@Stillatwoodstock1 the scene at :50 is from the film of the Stones' 1972 STP Tour called "Cocksucker Blues" -- in that scene they're in a hotel lobby - there are 2 scenes in CS Blues in a hotel lobby - I don't remember which this is. One scene is the Plaza in NYC and the other in like Albuquerque or Cleveland or something---the Plaza is filled with debs who look like throwbacks from another era, and the other scene is middle Americans.
Like one of the great artists from centuries past- his lifestyle was every bit as interesting as his art. Talk about living life on your own terms! ..........wish anyone of today's so-called rockers had an ounce of Keef's taste n style. Now it's all worthless dreck.
Anyone got a "Keith Richards to English" dictionary they can lend me?
I admire and love Keith just as much as the next guy, but damn, listening to him try to pontificate on anything - let alone rock and roll - is pure torture,
Look it, I know not everyone can be as intelligent, eloquent and articulate as Pete Townshend, but holy christ, Keith - take the marbles out of your mouth, use your "big boy" words and complete a full f*cking sentence,

Just got the book, and I loved it. A must read for every Stones fan, and Keith fan.
Its right up along there with Eric Clapton Biography. Both books are very well written and both are about my two favorite guitar players. Not to mention Ronnie Wood, whose another of my favorites. All 3 books are excellent reading. I recommend them to anyone who likes these guy's. ALOHA..............
I've been listening to the stones for the almost past 10 years, and It seems that all of a sudden lately I've become a fanatic Stones fan. I've found myself trying to learn everything I can about them.
He had a bit of botox and new dentures and he looks like he's lived especially the arthritic fingers - really hope the Stones throw in the towel and he goes solo with others.

Keef is the coolest Mother Alive. Bet on it. He lives nearby here, in Connecticut. A friend told me he was working in an antique shop and sees this dirty looking' bum outside the shop window, stained t-shirt, a smoke dangling from his lips. He goes out to shoo the this scrappy fella away, "Hey, move along" and he looks and it's bloody Keef! Who says, "Ah, sorry mate... just lookin' to bum a lite" ! true story. There are many, many Keef sightings around.
@MrFartboy79 Would love to hear more stories! I met Keith in Detroit about 1988 when I was working in the lighting department on a music video for the Whoopi Goldberg movie, "Jumpin Jack Flash". We shot at United Sound Studios, which was Motown's second stage, they used it in the old days when HItsville USA, their main studio on Grand River was booked. I was working the "top" lights, and we talked about our daughters who were born around the same time. He was very nice, and very High!
@MrFartboy79 Just kiddin, but seriously: have had friends who spotted him around westport main street......also my buddy Rocky Lawrence got to play with Keith at the old Boxcar in southport , right off exit 19 about 8 years ago
Maybe Keef ought to change tunings, or go back to regular tuning. I agree totally with Bill Wyman who has said that a lot of the later era Stones discs all sound the same.

Aladin's Lamp Shines Bright...After justblues....On The Heels of finishing reading,"Life" what a Awesome read. Thanks for posting will watch the whole Documentary...reopens the book once again...It's Only Rock n Roll...But I Like It.
For me, Keith is the best rock n' roll guitar player; subtle and sublime with impeccable taste and a rhythmic acumen straight out of Memphis and New Orleans.
I already got a glimpse of this 5-string thing with "Start me up" and "Soul Survivor", two examples that jump right out of the box when you fiddle around with open G and a capo. Now i KNOW. And that the über-ballad "Angie" was made right after a detox, still in hospital - gee! And what the (most species-appropriate) mainstreet was they were having their exile on in '71. Etc. etc. etc... This book is soaked with pure rock'nroll, more of a manifesto than a biography. Triple A+ recommended!
@ballonfisch "Brown Sugar" is another Open G classic, but believe it or not, Mick wrote that one ..... after Keith showed him the Open G tuning ... Grüsse aus Wiesbaden
5 strings b/c of his open g tuning. u could have six strings but bottom 6 is unnecessary in that type of tuning. open g w/ 6 strings would = 6d 5g 4d 3g 2b 1d. remove the 6th string the g note +much more prominent... god bless keef riffhard master of disaster
@ganjisgood Keith Richards like to play a variant open G spanish tunning. He says that he likes being un incumbered by a low 6th string. He loves open tunnings and his distinctive guitar can be heard playing the best stones guitar riffs.
@BBBSparky1 I read that his finger got smashed while he was playing soccer in the street as a child. He lifted a paving stone & it dropped on his finger. looking at his hands it's amazing he can play at all.
Read his book LIFE !!! It´s wonderful - intelligent, funny, emotional and that much more ... Keith don´t need to ask for your respect because you´ll give to him anyway - just by yourself with love and pleasure.
@mespasticpunk True, he does owe a lot to the likes of Chuck Berry, Ry Cooder, and Bo Diddley to name a few but when Keith plays that guitar... you instantly know it it him... KEEF!!! Great read... I'm half through now...
@ganjisgood He has a different tuning on his guitar (compared to normal guitars) which only requires 5 strings. It's a traditional blues tuning he works with - occasionally
@justblues10 Because Keith is playing in an open tuning (G mostly) and in that tuning, the lower 6th string is the fifth note of the scale and thus "a bit in the way" - and yes - there are rules in music ...
@justblues10@ganjisgood Keith Richards like to play a variant open G spanish tunning. He says that he likes being un incumbered by a low 6th string. He loves open tunnings and his distinctive guitar can be heard playing the best stones guitar riffs.
@justblues10 He plays in an open G tuning (essentially the same as 5-string banjo tuning), the low E string gets in the way, even if you tune it down to D, so he just removes it.
@justblues10 Well actually, it's because the higher E kept on ringing unnecessarily so in the end he just took it off to stop hitting it by accident.,
@ganjisgood he uses open tuning on some guitars, and the upper E-string is often not needed. He tunes them in an open G for example, can be heard on Honky Tonk Women, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Tumbling Dice etc.
@ganjisgood Because he played guitar mostly in something called "open G tuning" ... and didn't use the last string - actually removed it so he didn't have to worry about hitting it & messing up his 'sound'. He used open G tuning for many of the Stones hits i.e. satisfaction, Jumpin-Jack Flash, Brownsugar, Honky Tonk Woman, etc.

@BBBSparky1 it's because of 50 years playing guitar!!
rafaultimate69 10 months ago

@Scrappalino - I bet you're finished Keef's book now! It's wonderful how he makes us feel like he's a friend, like we know him. Cheers

Why "5" strings and not "6"?
ganjisgood 1 year ago
@ganjisgood He has a different tuning on his guitar (compared to normal guitars) which only requires 5 strings. It's a traditional blues tuning he works with - occasionally

@ganjisgood Why 6,and not 5 :) in music there's no rules
justblues10 1 year ago 35
@justblues10 Because Keith is playing in an open tuning (G mostly) and in that tuning, the lower 6th string is the fifth note of the scale and thus "a bit in the way" - and yes - there are rules in music ...
guruchuck 1 year ago
@justblues10 @ganjisgood Keith Richards like to play a variant open G spanish tunning. He says that he likes being un incumbered by a low 6th string. He loves open tunnings and his distinctive guitar can be heard playing the best stones guitar riffs.
danteller85 10 months ago
@justblues10 He plays in an open G tuning (essentially the same as 5-string banjo tuning), the low E string gets in the way, even if you tune it down to D, so he just removes it.
KafeSociety 8 months ago
@justblues10 Well actually, it's because the higher E kept on ringing unnecessarily so in the end he just took it off to stop hitting it by accident.,
tompascoew 7 months ago
@ganjisgood Haven´t you heard of his 5 stringed Telecasters? Besides I´d say 1000 lives... not 9!!
vierdiez 1 year ago
@ganjisgood he uses open tuning on some guitars, and the upper E-string is often not needed. He tunes them in an open G for example, can be heard on Honky Tonk Women, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Tumbling Dice etc.
bustedup 1 year ago
@ganjisgood Low E string really isn't needed when the gutar is tuned to open G. Some players think it gets in the way.
TheEmilio16 1 year ago
@ganjisgood Because he played guitar mostly in something called "open G tuning" ... and didn't use the last string - actually removed it so he didn't have to worry about hitting it & messing up his 'sound'. He used open G tuning for many of the Stones hits i.e. satisfaction, Jumpin-Jack Flash, Brownsugar, Honky Tonk Woman, etc.
