cutting curly hair wet is a good way to make sure the natural curls don't stay together, but become separate strands that frizz out and don't lay well.  anyone read "curly girl" by lorraine massey? she talks about how to cut curly hair, and since i've been following her advice, my hair has been looking so much better.

The difference between wet and dry curly hair is huge. It's so easy for anyone to make huge mistakes cutting curly hair when wet. I've never met a hairdresser who knew what they were doing with curly hair. They'll cut it as if it was straight (and wet). Not everyone has as much curly hair as someone else so you don't know how much the hair will shrink when dry.

that's why you cut it a little longer than you want it.. it's more precise when you cut hair wet, that's why they do it.

@ZeonGenesis if i could have all the money back 4 how many times a hair dresser messed up my hair, i could probably have afforded my own license. Ive been going to a guy for over 5 years, and i love the way he cuts my hair. but i would only let him cut it STRAIGHT. he got brave on me and told me to trust him to cut it curly. well lets just say ive been trimming my own hair, bangs etc because he took off TOO MUCH, it never fails. they just dont get it ! i don't even cut my hair curly.

Number 1 rule when cutting hair is Cut When Wet.

A real professional knows how to cut wet curly hair making all the allowances. Only a couple of my ethnic males ask for dry cuts.

In fact many Salons won't even cut dry hair it is unsanitary. Those that do often enjoy saving the time, collect the money and get them out they door. No real Professional would cut 'dry hair' period.

just so untrue, cutting clean dry hair is done very often, and mostly by profesionals, since the results will be more accurate since hair looks way different when wet

the reason for making hair wet is because it is eaiser to cut. however making hair wet is recommendatory only for professionals because, normally, after you cut your wet hair and dry it, the length becomes shorter than what you saw when your hair was wet.

Yeah you can cut it dry, but you can do it wet too, it has to be uniformly dry or wet in order to cut it properly do to the elasticity of the hair.
