The 300 wsm is quite capable at 1400 yards. The rifle seems to have some inconsistencies. Think you would have faired better with a 26 or 28" tube and a break. Pretty fast shooting though, nice.
@diderr01 10-4....Thanks for the load data my friend...I may have to try some of the info you provided but I'm going to have to play around with it a bit...I don't have the Norma cases or the Berger bullets. But I believe I can improvise.
It depends on how heavy of a barrel you decide on using. I thought about putting a Badger Ordinance FTE on mine, but the recoil is almost like a 308 as it is now. The draw back to a muzzle break is it can mess w/ harmonics and effect accuracy.
You are running 2900 fps? What powder and primer configuration are you using, what length are you trimming your brass and what is your OAL? I handload for my short with a 200 gr accubond and I'm only getting 2712 with win brass, fed215 and imr 7828 at 67.5 gr of powder.
So you are saying coming out of the mag into the chamber deforms the bullet and makes for a bad shot but if the gun was loaded you could same time on loading and more scope time for a better shot so your camera battery dosent die. I guess my question is, is rushing the shot worse than POSSIBLY some slight bullet deformity? I have never shot these distances but I do own a 300 WSM so I would love learn all I can thanks
I'm Shooting a 210 grain Berger bullet at 2900 FPS handload.
The scope is a Leupold Mark IV 6.5-20x50 w/ low rings, sun shade, and level.
I have a Jewel trigger set at 3 oz, and a Tubb firing pin.
I'm not taking time between shots. Just basically enough time to spot the hit, and chamber a new round. My hit potential would have increased if I did, but I was concerned about battery life of my cameras.

Just wondering why chamber one round at a time why not load the gun if you know you are taking more than one shot?
triplecert 1 year ago
@triplecert
For better accuracy. The nose of the bullet deforms when seating, and at these ranges it can make a POI inconsistency.

Nice little vid.
What are the particulars of your setup? Rifle, scope, ammo? How much time are you actually taking between shots? Letting the barrel cool complete?
Cheers
