  • Stress! You are aving a laugh

  • are have this on video

  • i like the old two tones

  • I teach EV driving.

You can approach any intersection driving normally, no lights/siren, and discuss the options and maneuvers and what complications may occur, etc.

No need to impose on others - for NOTHING.

No taking others' right of way.

    No disrupting traffic flow.

No causing others to suddenly slow and get rear-ended - it happens.

No causing others to pull over and contact other vehicles or getting a flat tire -it happens.

Observe during REAL runs. Videos can also be helpful.

  • Why did bus driver at 1:05 not stop his bus before blocking the path of the fire appliance? (This scene should have started a little earlier.)

Most drivers are very good at "giving way".

Some do not discover the appliance until the last moment.

Some panic and cannot quickly figure out what is best to do.

In the USA, Black and Mexican women especially have a tendency to panic. They pray and do nothing - seemingly not realizing THEY CAN CONTROL their vehicle.

  • Maybe they know about ridiculous FAKE English practice runs - NO emergencies - just "Joy Rides".

If I knew it was a fake run, I also would not yield.

  • In my birthplace, Kevelaer, west germany they have fitted bull bars to the front of all the appliances....they are legally allowed to ram you out of they way if you get in the way......and you have to pay for all damage caused to the fire engines because you were in the way...how cool is that!

  • I worked with Ken years ago at Kingsland, he was a hoot. Way to go Ken. I remember being there when they filmed this program...

  • does anyone have the blues and twos epsiode from eastern fire station in leicestershire if they do post it on here please love to see the episode again

  • I've been driving fire appliances for about 6 months, and was 22 when I became a driver.....It can get fustrating, but this guy sounds like he needs some anger management! I get cut up all the time, the public swear and mouth off, they dont give a fuck! U got to keep ur cool.

  • man, get rid of the hi-lo, slap a Q and train horns on the sumbitch truck. forget normal airhorns, i'm telling ya, go straight for train horns.

  • I love Martin horns, and it will be a great idea if we can make the train horns into a hi-lo. But all mechanical sirens are awful, especially the Federal Q, which is the most disgusting siren in the world.

  • Q sirens are the BEST.

I rev ours at low speeds so it is not louder than needed.

Or up to full speed and loudest output.

Our electronic sirens are always at full dB output, no matter the frequency.

But I also instantly silence them by pressing the P.A. microphone button.

Use much less electricity and weigh much less.

  • I'm trying to compare Q with Martin Horn, not electronic siren.

  • I'd love to try a Martins Horn.

Probably not legal by itself in the USA.

Have a collision with a Martins Horn, one may be charged with no RECOGNIZABLE siren.

Small problem: Some people may be deaf to one or both tones.

Mechanical siren and electronic Wail sound all other frequencies.

  • If some people are deaf to the Martin Horn, they will be deaf to Q as well, because the Martin Horn tones are not very high nor very low. When people lose their hearing, they always start from the lowest and the highest, which means when it gets to the point they couldn't hear the Martin Horn, they are very likely not being able to hear Q as well.

  • Yes.

The Martin(s?) Horns in the middle range is a good feature.

The advantage of the Q or Wail is that it sweeps through ALL frequencies, not just two specific pitches and their partials.

A Q disadvantage is that to be loudest it must be at its highest pitch, which may be beyond one's hearing range.

Also, the higher frequencies are more attenuated in air. 500Hz is best.

We drive never counting on the siren being noticed. (Last night's 2:14 a.m. run I did not sound it even once.)

  • inconsiderate assholes! they themselves might require the firebrigade for whatever reason. i totally sympathsise with that driver and understand his anger & fustration.

  • same here well said

  • Fucking right. They shud just barge them out the way

  • i call upon a change to the law, make it an offence, not just a request to move out the way

  • My heart goes out to ALL Emergency drivers ho are willfully obstructed by IDIOT drivers- Thy should be banned for LIFE; as their actions MAY cost just THAT. I've seen it done myself and its just sickening to see. Take care ALL you Blues and two's- we need you.
