Regardless of whether or not oyu want to keep it as a trophy, there are now ways of reproducing trout like this without killing them. Catch and release is the way to go if you are a recreational angler. You should only keep your catch if you are starving.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but let me just say that I readily practice catch and release. I will however keep something that is (a) not slow growing (b) not protected (c) within the legal limit. The vast majority of fish I catch are returned safe and sound.
I admit that there are many ignorant anglers out there that give the responsible ones a bad name. Personally, I refuse to buy many fish that are readily available at the markets due to the fact that they are slow growing and an unsustainable fishery. Most people buy these without a second thought due to ignorance. I'm all for tightening the laws on commercial fishing as this is where the damage is done.
what was fishing invented for??? as a means of aquiring food. theres no reason for not taking fish for the table if they are not an endangered species. in the lake this was caught in, fingerlings are stocked very frequently so there will never be a shortage of fish in there. i completely support catch and release angling and practice it myself, but if somone wants to keep a fish while holding a legal fishing license and caught within the law, by all means do so
