  • If I had the money, I'd pay for this in a heartbeat! :D

  • That's sooo cool! I bet it cost a bunch though :\

  • I would die to get a makeover like this.

  • wow i want part of it, to be a artist, wonder what makeup was used?

  • Looks like a ton of fun! I don't think I would dare to go outside though. I'd trip and fall on my face in those shoes XD

  • you can't have a maiko makeover if you are a foreigner, can you? :(

  • @JoHnNyDePp2137 Yes, you can. :) I've known of foreigners getting it done.

  • @Buziikon really?? that's so awesome!! thanks for telling me! i'll deffinitely do it when i visit Japan!!

  • beeeutiful ...im gonna be a geisha next halloween but i need to get white face paint...

  • i would never let bird shit on my face but i would like to be come a geisha

  • Oh my gosh, what an abouslute gorgous dress!!!! <3

  • I would love to do this myself. See what it's like to wear the makeup and even the clothes of a Geisha. I love those kimonos they wear.

  • @LisaMarie216 its heavy, it makes you perspire like crazy, and the obi is twice as long as your height.

  • @gotyami

I had no idea. Thanks for that info although I still wouldn't mind trying. Too bad I'm not in Japan to do such a thing. But I had no idea it was really heavy make up they wore. That's something new.

  • Beautiful!!

  • Magnifique!!!

  • I've been to Kyoto for a Myiko makeover. When it's done, I don't recognise myself. I lost my personality, and I don't like it.

  • wow.....

  • Dow anyone know what they use to make the face so white?

  • @cannibalmonkey13 they used something, in holland it's called cyanide, or chalk, or ( i dunno what's it called in english) kalk, or the dried ( don't know a different word for it) poo of a nighting gale

But since the make up of the last few years, there is just a nice white mousse like thing, that probably works fine as well.

  • I'm not sure exactly what they use but a product called Ben Nye Clown White Makeup would do just the same thing

  • @StacyandEricshow No, it won't. Because clown make up is greasy, and it will be cakey.

  • @akissy Applied in moderation and well powered it can give a geisha look if you're just doing it for a costume. I wasn't saying if you wanted to go all out.

  • @ingermarien poo from either the bat or a type of bird

  • @ingermarien

That white powder is called "Oshiroi" (白粉) made of powdered & mixed following things ↓

kaolin, talc, magnesium carbonate, zinc oxide, corn starch, starch and oil or glycerol...

There is no great difference in ingredients between Oshiroi and modern makeup foundation...

Why don't you google "Kabuki Oshiroi" (歌舞伎白粉), which is one kind of Oshiroi for the use of Kabuki actors, Maiko and Geisha...

  • They don't use lead and bird droppings. They simply use modern cosmetics most of the time. I don't know the specifics, but they stopped using lead a while back. What I would give to be a maiko! As a white person, that's not possible...

  • they use rice powder in their makeup

  • There's been one American geisha in history, she traveled to Japan and trained for it. You know the movie Memoirs of a Geisha? In the extra features it talks about here, she tells her story.

  • where the place at ?

so did u have the address of the place ..?

  • wow

  • very beautfiful

  • Absolutely stunning.

  • where do i get the white makeup?

  • There are ebay shops that sell the stuff.

  • Where do they get the white makeup?0_0

  • thy don't use the nightingales droppings any more because it made them have lead posing and mad them sick

  • Im pretty sure birds dont poop lead.

  • no they use to mixes the nightingales droppings and the lead together

  • "China Clay" was the makeup composed of lead. The nightingale droppings were not mixed in the lead. The nightingale dropping creme was expensive in those days, so very little of it was used and was blended into the face with brush tools.

  • sorry

  • Do you get to keep whatever they give you afterwards?

  • 999 999 times more beautiful before makeup.

  • breath-taking

  • they use bird poop right?

  • the traditional geishas actually are known to used a face cream made from the droppings of nightengales, but they used it only lightly, as it was very expensive. the actual white makeup is put over the face cream and is made out of a chalky substance i believe

  • ooooh, ew!

     that is digusting!

  • Youd be very surprised at the stuff they add to today's makeup.

  • ew- then i don't wanna know...

  • she looks like a doll ^_^

    daisuki!

  • very pretty : )

  • Omg how pretty!! I wish I could get a geisha makeover too ^.^

  • beautiful! i want one...

  • Awh, this looks so cool.

I'm blonde with blue eyes; but, I still want to try getting a Geisha Makeover. :)

  • i own that book!

    its amazing!!

    god shes beautiful!

    i wanna makeover!!!!!!

    haha that would be awesome!

  • Read the story of a real Geisha.

    'Geisha, a life'

true, not fiction like 'Memoirs of a Geisha'

  • I really don't like this, I agree with dfghjkkliytg xDDDDU

Btw, I think Mineko Iwasaki's book are a lot better than MOAG D:

    I loooove that book x3

  • Shes actually dressed as a Maiko not a Geisha!

  • "Memoirs of a Geisha" comes out, and now everyone's and expert.......

  • Even though MOAG was wrong, so what are you getting at?

  • the book was up since 97, i was grade 6 at that time when i read it... for a report

  • ohh very pretty! <333

  • It does look beatifull, and i would love to look like that. But it is a bit disrespectfull towards the Geisha culture. They are wery proud and lately they have been acused for being high-class prostitutes. Therefore this is something which i wouldnt do, out of respect to the culture. After all they do train for years to become Geisha so i dont think it is right. But thats just me, if you want to do it then im not going to stop you

  • what do you mean RECENTLY? they've been thought of as prostitutes for MANY, MANY YEARS. since they are mistress' of the night, they often end up stealing husbands of wifes and for payment. they are dancers and they entertain but keep in mind that when they get a danna, the man pays for her entirely, including for sex. same goes for her virginity.

  • You've been watching MOAG too much.

A Danna merely acts as the Geisha's benefactor. THAT IS ALL. They are not prostitutes by any stretch of the imagination. What you are thinking of is the OIRAN, not the Geisha. Oiran look quite similar to Geisha in their makeup, but their clothing is far more elaborate. Additionally, the "virginity" issue is a practice that was done by oiran as well, and was banned in 1958.

Learn a thing or two before speaking.

  • Additionally, it hasn't been many, many years where geisha have been thought of as prostitutes. That was only with the arrival of American GIs in WWII.

  • I want to do that! It looks so fun and pretty!

  • no offense to the wonderful and rich japanese culture, but the ideal beauty of japan is so restricting towards women. they prefer meek, quiet women instead of outspoken, ambitious women. they purposely give them shoes so that it is hard to run or walk briskly in. although it is better now and there are many rebellious japanese girls, this video itself still shows what the japanese culture prefers amd admires in women.

  • Wrong.

That's actually a western stereotype. Japanese women don't deal with that much more sexual oppression anymore than western women do. In fact, Western men, historically, were more oppressive towards their women than the Japanese.

  • Actually, it's only recently that japanese women have had many rights at all. Traditionally, a marriage was arranged and the bride became the mother-in-laws' servant. Even now, the current population of japan is aging with not nearly enough children to replace the current population because modern women won't marry japanese men because they believe western men will treat them with more respect.

  • Yeah, I know about the arranged marriage part. Marriages in the West were often arranged as well up until the late-Edwardian Period, though mainly through the upper-class.

A problem that is said that Japanese women have with Western men is that Western men will cheat on them. The big reason that Japanese women end up with Western Men is because of novelty purposes and the fact that Western men are more open emotionally.

  • japanese girls have amazing skin look at 0:12^^

    it s very beautiful

  • its called doran or search for shiro nuri

  • I would love to go to Japan and get a makeover like this - even if it's just for a day.....

  • damn I want to go to japan and get dressed up like that!!....But I'm white....so I might look wierd... but i still think it would be fun!!! ^_^

  • It doesn't matter, you wont look weird, the japanese culture is amazing :D

  • Comment removed

  • Really? It should be beautiful for a woman tourist make it!I would to do it,but I think that I could never go to Japan...:(

  • It is. It doesn't really look as good on white tourists due to different facial features. It's pretty obvious when you walk into a white tourist dressed as a maiko.

I'm saying this as someone who has gone to Kyoto. Believe me, Touristy geisha DO NOT look good at all.

  • Beautiful!!

  • I would LOVE to go to japan and do this, how cool it would be, they look so sexy and alluring and mysterious and elegant. fantastic thanks for sharing.

  • oh my god me too <333

  • their brush is bigger than mine!

  • they have a few left no longer prostitutes but they are still around their are actually six.and there is two reasons oiran wear them in front for easy untying and the reason they tie it in the front is to mock the old way married women used to wear them as if they are saying i am your wife for the night do waht you will with me.

  • there are oiran but they are exactly the same as geisha. they just have different costumes and hairstyles. they are two left in all of japan that i know of!

  • oiran are courtesans. they are there primarily for sex. they are very expensive and covetted. from what i believe, there are no more left, with the banning of prostitution in the late meiji period. they wear the most elaborate hair style and they were the obi bow in the front so that they can dress themselves easily after having sex.

  • There are still oiran, but they mostly take part in celebrations like parades and fesitvals nowadays.

  • Yes, there are still oiran, they are just symbolic figureheads; you'll usually only see them at parades or festivals. They train in arts similar to that of geisha, but with some variations.

  • where can u go for to geisha-ised

  • immortalgeishacom

  • Oh PLEASE, if at least one of you knows where I can get just THAT makeup, please tell me!

  • Hi! you can buy the makeup on ebay, and many more maiko and geisha items at: stores(dot)ebay(dot)com/Hannari-Ya. Hope it will be useful :).

  • Thank you :-)

That was a good hint ^^

  • Look up Yumekoubou on Google. There are studios like this one all over Tokyo and Kyoto.

  • What is the difference between geisha and maiko?

  • maiko are apprentice geisha. as someone else posted, they have more elaborate kimono and makeup, i'm GUESSING because they're building their reputation and want to get noticed more. Makeovers like this are in Kyoto and Gion. I actually became a maiko myself for a day. It was fun!

  • as someone else pointed out maiko have more elaborate makeup and kimono. they are apprentice geisha so maybe they need to look more impressive to get noticed and build a rep? (just guessing as to the reason).

  • whoops..sorry, didn't think the first posting worked. another thing. many people confuse oirans with geisha. oirans were high class prostitutes back in the day that looked similar to geisha (but you can tell them apart because they have lots of big ornamental sticks in their hair). While geisha still exist, there are no oirans now (that I know of).

  • whatever. maiko's do become geisha - it's not such a travesty to confuse the two.

  • Maiko have more make-up (Full lips normally) and more elaborate kimono and obis and also taller zori. Geisha wear less and less make-up (Lip styles vary with whats in fashion) as they get older/more experiance and also their outfits get less elaborate :)

  • you can tell its a maiko due to the full lip treatment *still you paint a tiny bit of the lips*

  • That is totally beautiful!

  • yep maiko. I hate when people automatically think, white paint? must be a geisha.

  • that's cool but also thats not geisha its Maiko

  • only maiko wear makeup

  • if thats a qeustion to me the anserw would be no i beleve immortal geisha
