  • @lowkeygoddess you really have a high opinion of yourself, doncha, Sally? time to tone it down a notch or two, people are laughing at you pretentions. Just sayin'.

  • Why in hell would anyone override the original sound of this movie with that stupid obnoxious music? What an idiot!

  • Que glamorosa!

  • I love Jean Harlow.

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Harlow was truly one-of-a-kind. No one like her before or since. And she could do anything--drama, comedy, musicals. She actually was a big girl but knew how to cary herself and how to dress so she never looked big. Her personality was flat out right there in plain sight, which is why the public loved her so much. Very sad life. How ironic she died young but certainly turned out to be timeless. She would fit right in today.

  • my ambition in life is to wake up every morning just like that. :P

  • madonna takes inspiration for "in bed with madonna "scene...

  • even though in this scene she is very beautiful, i still prefer her in hells angels, because this was the time before MGM turn her into a blond bombshell! in hells angels you see the real jean harlow and not jean harlow the glamour girl!! but in spite of that i still ADORE that movie!!!

  • just saw this. Jean reminds me so much of myself...lol

she will always be the queen of the cinema.

not just of her time, but of the whole golden age, in my oppinion. she's the realest of all the old school females

  • I love you, Jean

  • Does anyone know the name of the very first song...the one playing as the movie's opening credits roll?

  • Most Beautiful Woman Of All Time

  • I don't know why some of you are dragging Britney Spears into this and calling HER white trash. Jean Harlow, God rest her soul was married and divorced 3 TIMES before she was 24 years old for Christ Sake.

Jean Harlow was no lily white saint. Just because she died young doesn't make her a saint!! Who gets married and divorced 3 times before age 24?????

And that was back in the 20's and 30's.

She must have been called white trash in her day until she died and became a freaking saint.

  • @ladylike1980 PREACH!!!!!

  • Britney Spears lacks class, she leaves no one to their own imagination. She almost has to spill it out for the viewers of her videos.

  • Keep in mind dear children, Jean Harlow was the first, only blond bombshell, she had come before Mae West.Everyone else is a mere copy cat to the real thing. Jean was all American, sweet, Playful, sexy vixen without copying anyone else.

  • wasnt she the wife or girlfriend of the guy who played the thin man movies i think hes name was dick powell

  • @tracytcb111111111111 It was William Powell.

  • @johnbatt3 thanks

  • She's one of the reasons why we have rating systems in movies :)

She is a knockout and neat thing is she'll never get old.

  • They're remaking dinner at eight?

  • go jean hunni..they didnt hang around in those days

  • Harlow had a gorgeous hour-glass figure but curiously, she is remembered now for her big bosom. If you look carefully at this and many other clips, she really doesn't have big breasts. Contemporaries like Clara Bow, for example, were bigger. Jean was also short. Her male co-stars towered over her, even some women- in this film, Marie Dressler- were taller. Yet somehow she embodies the sleek, voluptuous blond people were crazy about, and still are. Plus, she was FUNNY.

  • @defundthewar Jean quoted her MGM wardrobe department measurements as 35-23.5-35.5 which for a small girl ( only 5'1" ) means she was packing a lot of ammunition in her slender frame. As you point out she was so well proportioned that you are never aware of how short she was when you see her on screen.

  • @johnbatt3 It's hard to say now, after all, Jean would be 100 years old next year... but Jean does not seem 35 and may have, pardon the pun, padded her resume. In one of my biographies, that huge silent star Colleen Moore said Jean was "a perfect 34." I think the other two measurements were probably right on the mark. Oddly- maybe not- some of Jean's biggest compliments came from other women. Roz Russell, in her own bio, extolled Harlow's beauty.

  • @defundthewar Of course it is hard to be certain but it must have been gratifying to have been in the privileged position of being able to give the definitive answer to this question !!

  • @johnbatt3 Indeed! And the exact measurement of JH's bust is an issue of monumental importance! At last, the world can relax and move on to other topics.

  • Any stupid jerk who says funny women can't be funny should rent this movie.

  • gay bitch

  • i know she fuckkked and was ass fuckkked lol

  • She is so awesome!

  • Shut up she was great!! U must be Jealous or something

  • she look a fucked ass :) lik u

  • @mcqueen12345667 What? How old are you?

  • Wonderful. This is like a silent comedy. Truly spectacular and funny :P. 5 stars.

  • Agree with David. I LOVE this vid!! Think I was living in the 40s/50s in my past life :D

  • @SJMish but jean was big in the 30s.

  • I Love Jean Harlow But I still Love My Marilyn Monroe More :)

  • I agree with that babe! Marilyn is my number 1 girl, but Jean is cool too :). The glamour queens of the 40's and 50's are to die for. Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe. It's ALL good baby! :D

  • In fact two films were made about Jean in 1965, both entitled 'Harlow'. One starred Carroll Baker and the other featured Carol Lynley. Neither film came close to accurately portraying the life and personality of the real Jean.

  • a bio pic of Jean was already done in the 60's with Carroll Baker playing Jean. Look it up.

  • Love her!! She has such a presence, and that hair is gorgeous!!

  • Would you be shocked, if I put on something more comfortable?

  • gorgeous video! Jean Harlow was the best of all those characters in Dinner at eight!! she was marvelous! too bad she had such a tragic end but her films will always be remembered!

  • that was such a great time high class high style ! Jean Harlow in the 1930's and Marilyn Monroe in the early 1950's to early 1960's.. It would be nice to have people dress like that again... and not just for an event or party .. also the casual clothing was some how formal.. very cool

  • Wish ya hadn't put it on fastforward. But thanks anyway.

  • I hope that they'll make a bio-pic on Jean Harlow to show in the theatres someday.

I wonder who could play her though?

Maybe Christina Aquilera or Bryce Dallas Howard maybe?

Back in 2004 when they made "The Aviator" Gwen Stefani had a small role as Jean.

I hope that if that idea does surface they'll find someone beautiful and professional who can portray the true Jean.

  • NO, NO, and double NO!

Don't ever compare Britney Spears to the late great Jean Harlow!

Jean was a true star whereas Britney is nothing but white trash!

Jean will forever be a star as Ms. Spears will forever be dropping in the popularity charts.

  • @4262009AP Are you stupid? People probably said the same about Jean back in the 30's. Britney is a beautiful girl, who has done nothing wrong, all that happend is she had a breakdown but she is ok now with the support of her family. No way is it wrong to compare Britney to Jean or Marilyn for that matter!

  • @4262009AP biggest load of SHIT i've heared in my life.

i love jean, but britney is a modern star.

  • @4262009AP What about Justin Bieber to Jean Harlow?

  • @mandaladouble I don't think so.

  • @4262009AP What's the point of down-talking other celebrities? I never understand how disrespecting other stars by calling them "white trash" is praising another? Why can't you simply acknowledge Jean Harlow in all of her glamour without having to throw disgusting titles at others? What good or purpose does that serve?

  • She dosen't seem to be such a terrible actress so why did critics attack her like they did?

  • JanWest24,

the critics attacked her because of this reason: In the early 1930s when Jean was starting out, she was often put into the roles of gold-diggers, floozies, and prostitutes and because of those roles people thought that she came out of the gutter when truth be told she actually came from a prominent mid-Western family.

She was also involved in a scandal with the suicide of Paul Bern, her second husband, where people thought that he took his own life because of her.

  • Harlow-Monroe they are icons there is nobody like that out there Mansfield and Bardot came close but that's it don't get me wrong I know that Hollywood had and still has a lot of beautiful women but not one of them is on their level.

  • Lovely video, added to my faves! 5stars

  • Monroe ones said how when she was in the orphanage she use to look at the Hollywood sign and wanted to be like Jean Harlow. You can tell how she immitated Harlow from the sexiness and the child like playfulness even the pouting of the lips it's so obvious. Thanks for this great vid love Jean!

  • both were great in their own way, comparing the two of them is like comparing apples and oranges. Both werw blonde bombshells, multi-married and lived tragic short lives, but that is where it ended.Marilyn was soft and child-like as a marshmallow and Harlow was tough and street savy and hard as rock candy. RIP BOTH OF THEIR BVEAUTIFUL SOULS

  • okay... jean harlow and marilyn monroe were icons in there times! OKAY! I LOVE and adore marilyn monroe. but im not going to say jean harlow s horrable and monroe is better which im not going to because i don't think she is horrable. monroe wason't a wonnabe!! marilyn wanted to be an actress since she was tiny, it was her passion and dream!

  • She is the reason I bought this film. Simply adore her. :D

  • Despite the huge impact Jean Harlow enforced upon the world of cinema and culture in the 1930's, I find it amazing how for me personally, it is hard to come across any about or containing her. For example, rather recently I purchased a book about celebrity deaths and tragedies from 1910's - 1990's and everyone was listed from unknown but infamous extras to Hollywood classics such as Marilyn Monoroe and Clark Gable; but Harlow was not.

  • The most comprehensive book about Jean is Bombshell: The Life and Death of Jean Harlow by David Stenn (he also wrote a great bio of Clara Bow). It's very in-depth and dispels a lot of the rumors brought about by Irv Shuman's fictional biography of her. Eve Golden's Platinum Girl is supposed to be a good read as well. I also read there's a picture book coming out in 2011, her centennial. And someone is writing a book about Paul Bern too.

  • It was said that Marilyn Monroe copied her style due to her admiration for her since she was a little girl despite this i still find marilyn monroe is much more gorgeous than her. I dont know if it just me!

  • Marilyn is more sweet & innocent in her style.

Jean was never a "dumb blonde"...even in Dinner at Eight she was street smart, just not Park Avenue saavy.

  • Honey, let's put it this way: had there been no Harlow, there never would've been a Monroe. Simple, huh? Tired old thing.

  • yup. but i prefer jean harlow. shes more classier, i find marilyn munroe a skankier-wanna-be version of jean harlow. X( too bad she died so young. Q.Q

  • Hot Harlowe.Especially when she acts dominant toward the female maid.A early film adventure of female domination.

  • Love the juxtaposition of music with the video tempo...PERFECT. My bands play this pre-40s vintage STUFF. Love the ending as well. THIS IS A KEEPER. Thanks very much and I feel more upbeat for it. I had just watch a very touching 'Ovid: The Art of Love and Other Poems' piece and after tears...this made me SMILE and LAUGH. BRAVO!!!

  • how nice to be able to sit and eat bon bons in the middle of the depression

  • JEAN HARLOW made her VOICE heard LOUD & CLEAR in DINNERatEIGHT,...nice shots of JEAN with background music of the 30s. HARLOWS best acting though was when she was either a comedian or tough lady and always the leading lady of her day in the movies she made! this is one of HARLOWS funnier comedies she filmed besides SUZIE in 1936 JUST 1year before her unfortunate health problems that lead to her passing in 1937.

  • this was a talkie.

i saw this movie when i was 4....i havent stopped being so fascinated..i literally had my room done like hers ahha

  • really? you had an all-white room? did you wear white too? --- these scenes gave the camera men nightmares. cuz white, especially back then was hard to photograph cuz it reflects so much.

  • "'Course I remember! I seen you at the races!"

  • Okay this is the second time in which I have watched this clip and I must say, for some reason I really liked it this time, despite its lack of dialogue.

  • she was the idol for marilyn

  • Obviously this film wasn't a silent film judging by the date, and also knowing that Jean Harlow was in the "Talkies". Anyway, why have you skipped the dialogue, is this like some kind of tribute?

  • Awesome

  • This girl is sexy and cute at the same time! I love you Jean! She kicked butt in her movies. She was great! I love this line here:

"Politics? You couldn't get into politics! You couldn't get in anywhere! You couldn't get into the men's room at the Astor!"
