Lmao - I'm probably a retro gamer. Most of the games I own are older, and classics. (Also, I wish I wasn't in a small town with a university - we have a chain of resale game stores, but it's mostly the top sellers.) I mostly hit up pawn shops and other smaller stores for my fix.
I'm dating a former gamer - she was a Gamecube gamer, and I'm trying to get her into the handhelds. :)

Retro gamer here. By choice because nothing will ever beat the 16-bit era... I mean most ideas were fresh, programers were trying out new stuff & pushing the envelope. Plus they gave us patterns to decypher... nowadays the only item you are given usually are the ammo stashes... oh, and the achivements... whatever that brings us gameplay-wise (hint : nothing). Gamers today only cares about their achivements (a.k.a. their e-pens), a lot rarely finish a game, can't blame them... No quality anymore
I became a retro-gamer of sorts mainly due to not being able to afford to keep buying new hardware.
I wish there was a true retro games store around here. Stores like GameStop and even general secondhand stores here no longer carry games that are more than one console generation old.
My gamer idenity is my own. I play the games I like and that is it.
Allot of pro's say the new Splatterhouse is trash, while I consider the game to be incredibly awesome. I waited 17 years for a new Splatterhouse and the new one didn't disappoint me at all. I loved every minute of it.
While games like RE4 which are universally loved, I absolutely hate the game with a passion.

2) The lack of any survival management is gone. There is plenty of Ammo to go around even in Pro mode.
3) The story had almost nothing to do with Umbrella
4) The game is way too long. It wore it's welcome out with me by the time I got to the Castle which is about the half way point of the game. Then it became a chore for me to finish it.
5) The lack of variety in enemies also did not impress.
@ST0PM0SS sigh there are no retro shops in my area, except for one mini kiosk at the mall with really just PS2, PSP, Wii, and GC games and maybe 12 SNES/NES games and that's that.....and it's all marked at prices that are just stupid crazy
I would personally consider myself another type of gamer entirely, the enthusiast. one who knows his stuff, has a fair amount of consoles and games but doesnt neccessarily spend ALL his time playing them or even very good at them. I very rarely play through a game on hard for instance unless its something i truly truly love (timesplitters 2, Metal gear solid 1 and 2, goldeneye) and I FUCKING HATE achievement whores, the ones who only play a game for a self gratifying status that means fuck all.
Violent video games are actually good because they make people mentally tough (some would say "desensitized"). This is necessary if people hope to survive in the wasteland that is our inevitable future -- a wasteland infested with roving bands of marauders and Philistine savages. Plus, whoever heard of a combat medic who fainted at the sight of blood?
The thing is a lot of people are a mash-up of some, of not all of these stereotypes. I'll break out with tetris or blockbreakers on my phone from time to time, get into a game so much that I join a forum just to talk about it, import games that have NO chance in hell of being released outside of Japan(Battle Stadium DON, Initial D, Tales of Destiny 2 are a few I have) and hell, I've modded a few of my systems before starting from the switch trick on the original PSX. I remember DDR 4th mix... <3

You forgot a Knowledge Game Who loves The Games Stories And are Good at games. They usually play almost as much as Hardcore games but they are fun and not jerks too others. They are also able to get into games very easily

Kiwikraze in France is known under the name New Zealand story. We came across it at the end of the 80's on Amiga / Atari and the french video game press of the time gave it excellent reviews.
My girlfriend enjoys gaming, but I'm much better at it than her, so we don't get into competitive multiplayer much. But it's nice that she likes to watch me play all my old school and current gen games in single player mode.

As far as me. I was a hardcore gamer but then I got into anarchy online and power gamed that mmo. Now Im not satisfied except to powergame everything but its so much work that I tend to ADD off to something else before I finish and I dread coming back almost. I'm becoming a casual gamer. Casual'ish.. still do classic pc gaming or something at least once every other day but I lack the passion to hold me for hours. I miss it. Maybe its the games now. to corporate, nothing original

I enjoy playing games for the hell of it, I enjoy yelling at them at times, I enjoy beating the crap out of something. I want to make games because of it and make art and make stories because of it! For me I say I'm an All Rounded Gamer.
I so agree with you Z. As a proud female gamer, I believe that most gamers loss the fun and charm of a game by over analyzing it, whatever game that may be. Sure, it interesting to know about all the secrets/style of a game, but there is a limit.

I'm definitely a retro gamer. only instead of 1982, 2001 is my cut off date. I honestly believe that games made after 2001 really did lose their charm.
Final Fantasy is a perfect example. After Final Fantasy 9, the rest of the games ripped off the others. 10 rips off 8 (love story). 11 WAS NOT a Final Fantasy. And 12 ripped off FF Tactics (It takes place in Ivalice). Since 2001 theres been like three games that have really won me over; Dragon Quest 8, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.
That's right, table gamers are gamers too. Most table gamers play video games when there's no time to get a group together. Thank you SO much for including us :)

You forgot to mention the kind of gamer I am: the bargain bin gamer. Not long after the release of the Gamecube, I bought a used N64 and when the Wii came out I bought a used Gamecube (but I don't plan on buying a Wii, used or otherwise). By the way, the Spike Tv website recently did a feature similar to this video (that's where I got "bargain bin gamer" from).
I just love how VGs are like opera; many art forms shoved into one final product. A collage of technology both software and hardware, music, stories, game play, business, etc. Its a beautiful combination that we should never take for granted and as gamers today we should be thankful that there is so much competition in console and game making, because now we have so many great games! (oh Kiwi Kraze! "New Zealand Story", is the best on Sega's master system. Go Check it out!)
As gamers, we all know we've been through almost all of these phases (well except the paid-gamer). Starting out as a casual gamer, then we become discontent and start collecting. Many of us tried hacking/moding games, buying imported games, getting obsessed with game and their origins and how every game is ripped off another game, etc. It's kinda funny 8)
Besides the 5 listed there's also the geek of all trades (master of none). I play Mario and other iconic games, Tetris and other casual games, not so much on the hardcore area mostly cause I don't have the time to become master,though I'm not opposed to giving them a try, import games like ouendan, I've got plans drawn up for an arcade cabinet, and I play games like D&D, Warhammer 40K.
Also the collector. I have a friend who collects games that he doesn't play just cause he wants to own them.
After seeing the Top 5 (excluding 6), I'd say I'm like a mixed breed of the first four.
Like, I love retro games as much as I love iconic gems and casual games, and I like to import because some good titles will never get a North American release. I'm a fighting gamer since I was 2, and most fighters I love and own are imported. :D

Awesome episode! I totally agree with the point made at the end regarding relationships, sometimes it's better to avoid the pool. I'm perfectly happy with my current g/f, who only plays Sims 2 once in awhile. She really isn't that much of a gamer, but she just has that certain something about her that makes me love her.
'KiwiKraze' - Thats called 'The New Zealand Story' in Europe.. I loved that game as a kid on the Amiga, I still play it on my old Master System at the moment.

As far as me. I was a hardcore gamer but then I got into anarchy online and power gamed that mmo. Now Im not satisfied except to powergame everything but its so much work that I tend to ADD off to something else before I finish and I dread coming back almost. I'm becoming a casual gamer. Casual'ish.. still do classic pc gaming or something at least once every other day but I lack the passion to hold me for hours. I miss it. Maybe its the games now. to corporate, nothing original

You know whenever I Look into a game at details or if I spoil something from the story I never felt like I lost magic in a game, It just makes me want to play more if it! XD
I enjoy playing games for the hell of it, I enjoy yelling at them at times, I enjoy beating the crap out of something. I want to make games because of it and make art and make stories because of it! For me I say I'm an All Rounded Gamer.

I so agree with you Z. As a proud female gamer, I believe that most gamers loss the fun and charm of a game by over analyzing it, whatever game that may be. Sure, it interesting to know about all the secrets/style of a game, but there is a limit.
I am so happy to see a female gamer getting some fame in today's world. GO Z! :)

I'm definitely a retro gamer. only instead of 1982, 2001 is my cut off date. I honestly believe that games made after 2001 really did lose their charm.
Final Fantasy is a perfect example. After Final Fantasy 9, the rest of the games ripped off the others. 10 rips off 8 (love story). 11 WAS NOT a Final Fantasy. And 12 ripped off FF Tactics (It takes place in Ivalice). Since 2001 theres been like three games that have really won me over; Dragon Quest 8, Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.

You forgot to mention the kind of gamer I am: the bargain bin gamer. Not long after the release of the Gamecube, I bought a used N64 and when the Wii came out I bought a used Gamecube (but I don't plan on buying a Wii, used or otherwise). By the way, the Spike Tv website recently did a feature similar to this video (that's where I got "bargain bin gamer" from).

I just love how VGs are like opera; many art forms shoved into one final product. A collage of technology both software and hardware, music, stories, game play, business, etc. Its a beautiful combination that we should never take for granted and as gamers today we should be thankful that there is so much competition in console and game making, because now we have so many great games! (oh Kiwi Kraze! "New Zealand Story", is the best on Sega's master system. Go Check it out!)

As gamers, we all know we've been through almost all of these phases (well except the paid-gamer). Starting out as a casual gamer, then we become discontent and start collecting. Many of us tried hacking/moding games, buying imported games, getting obsessed with game and their origins and how every game is ripped off another game, etc. It's kinda funny 8)

Besides the 5 listed there's also the geek of all trades (master of none). I play Mario and other iconic games, Tetris and other casual games, not so much on the hardcore area mostly cause I don't have the time to become master,though I'm not opposed to giving them a try, import games like ouendan, I've got plans drawn up for an arcade cabinet, and I play games like D&D, Warhammer 40K.
Also the collector. I have a friend who collects games that he doesn't play just cause he wants to own them.

After seeing the Top 5 (excluding 6), I'd say I'm like a mixed breed of the first four.
Like, I love retro games as much as I love iconic gems and casual games, and I like to import because some good titles will never get a North American release. I'm a fighting gamer since I was 2, and most fighters I love and own are imported. :D
The problem with this, though, is I have a too big inner geek. ._.;
Also, DAMN I'd wanna visit a store like that. I don't think we have stores that big here.

This is as nice as female gamers get. I totally roll out of my couch when i hear motherfuckers hitting on a girl on a game. Like in gears of war online, there were these 2 flirting, or hitting on each other. It was weird. On the girls account, she had a myspace. I looked it up right away to see what was it that this dude was talking to. Fucking fat bitch. Aggh!! 80% gamer chicks are so not hot.

Awesome episode! I totally agree with the point made at the end regarding relationships, sometimes it's better to avoid the pool. I'm perfectly happy with my current g/f, who only plays Sims 2 once in awhile. She really isn't that much of a gamer, but she just has that certain something about her that makes me love her.
