In the 1990s, I had a 1968 144S, with 1974 B20F block with early B20E head, double springs and R-grind cam from ipd, twin 40mm DCOEs and a sport exhaust. VERY fast car!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

Had a 1966 122S, and had the engine modified by Butkereit in Germany like this one in 1998, fast, but burning holes in pistons every few thousand kilometers was less fun....
Fill the radiator, and put about a gallon of fuel in it.
Run the engine at 2000 RPM for about ten minutes. If it's just a bur, some dirt on the seat, or the valve stem breaking in a new guide, this will set it straight. If this doesn't help. you're going to have to pull the head, and check the valves.
Dude, its Carburetors, and they are TWIN... Need some adjustment before it runs nice....... STFU ;) ..
wow. that is a REALLY small engine. no offence. but then again im used to a 67' chevell SS with a V8 that pulls over 800 hp.

how could it be 2.2? when it is a b20. the 20 stands for 2.0 so that may be a h22?

Longer intake runners and an airbox help too with the backfire.

You've got some valves that aren't seated.
