  • Ok I'll admit it. A nice train horn spells excitement to me. Something big, powerful and loud is in the area. I am compelled to go out and get as close to it as possible. On bridges, under bridges, at crossings and stations, and pacing them. if i'm awake, ill go. It gives me an adrenalin rush that I'm addicted to. Terrible isn't it......what's the cure? I'm waisting all my money on gas chasing these dang things lol....

  • i love this...many years ago, i was lulled to sleep on warm summer nights not just by the train, but with the sounds of the distant steel mills. the sounds of controlled explosions, the pourings, the steam, from a distant were as gratifying and soothing as the sound of a train. maybe someone else experienced this. the sounds of 'industry' or mechanization are so pleasing, so peaceful, but when they are distant.

  • @Cchrisbud813 thanks man, I actually prefer the flat 4A bell rather than the standard tuning on the k5LA. Clip #15 was awesome. On that first blast the 4A kind of stood out a little too. Here in Greenville SC I've heard a few amtrak P42's with those haunting k5's and boy do I enjoy it. What's nice about this railroad is that they're using

  • I really appreciate your video's. Thank you so much. I'm a sound-oriented person to begin with, and just recently I've noticed how much I love the sound of trains. I live in an area with trains several miles downhill from my location, and dang it, that is a really cool sound.

Thank you again for this and other video's

  • @MrOoppoddoo You're welcome. I'm so glad you enjoy these videos.

  • @vivisect86 My thoughts exactly.

  • hey man, I have to admit, the first k-5LA reminds me of a k5LA that I had on an old CD. It sounds exactly like that, with that flat 4A bell. Now that I think about it, when the 4A bell is flat, it has a k5h-like sound to it.

  • It sounds like union station in Los Angeles it's awesome it's actually relaxing and covers out the gunshots and sirens

  • Luckily, I live in Texas, so the sound of a distant train at night is common. For some reason, a lot of my friends and relatives find the sound irritating, however I am in love with it and there's nothing better than curling up in bed to the sound of a rainstorm and a distant train mixed :)

  • @Papanda1995 I agree. Lonely, but lovely! Very peacefull and satisfying... I imagine that it reminds one of watching trains passing by as kids, and being fascinated with them. I was! Still am!...

  • What a GREAT clip. Brings back memories of camping in WNY at a state park and listening to the trains coming to crossings at Dunkirk area. Lake Erie State Park. All night long. Very peaceful. Thank You for sharing. Nice Job

  • so relaxing were I am in a nice quiet nabber hood I like to head to bed around 8:30 some times and lay on my back with all my bed room windows open and listen to the off in to the distance train horns go off. them echoing. I like to do the same with thunder storms but not with all my windows open. haha

  • number 11 sounds a lot more like a 3rd gen prime PM920,the equivalent of leslie's S3L...maybe a prime-leslie "mutt".....

still it is very relaxing to listen to all those beauties.....thanks

  • Sure is relaxing. Such an eerie sound very nostalgic

  • Hi Chris, I live in the Netherlands, and on a few visits in the USA I fell in love with the sound of a distant train passing by. I couldn't stop listening. The sound was faint but beautiful.

Later, back in Holland, in TV-shows the same sound was noticeable. So I wanted to use this sound for my emailannouncement. Searched for one, couldn't find it. Recently a Dutch columnist wrote about the K5LA! Now I've found your recordings. You are the first who recorded from a distance . Thank you!

  • @Leiden2010 Thank you for your kind words! I'm happy that you enjoy my recordings. Once I get some more free time, I'll hopefully be putting more recordings up.

  • @Cchrisbud813 From the reactions on your recordings on this page it seems there is no unique trainhorn. Have you ever been recording at a few miles from a track?

I remember sitting at a campfire somewhere in Mississippi or Alabama, on our way tot St. Orleans. The train that passed by must have been at least 5 miles away. The train would sound its horn every 20 seconds or so. That gave it its faint sound. Any chance you might record something like that?

  • I love these recordings. If you ever hear a first generation k5LAR24 can you make a video of it?

  • Best horns:0:58,2:38,3:40!

  • nice horns

  • 1:31

  • where's the Blue Line & Gold Line Horn

  • Explain please?

  • so relaxing...

  • oh and awesome horn sounds too dude, keep it up!!!

  • the first K-5LAR24 sounds like an new NS C40-9W unless you have Amtrak in the area

  • Actually, this is a shortline used by BPRR (Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad), although I have yet to find who uses it at night. BPRR's K-5LAs sound a bit similar to NS.

  • huh, interesting. I live close to the NS main. I live close enough to hear the horns being blown. I could record some and put them up.
