Happy B-Day Scott, & Heartfelt thanks for this anthem of " Our Time", and all ther music you made. I loved your voice, & chersih my memories of The Summer of '67. Wolfsky9, 65 y/o now.
has been one my favourite songs since I was about 11 or so, I'm 47 this year. It's such a beautiful song. Of my simpler times, but not as good a times as people make out. Same as today good and bad things happened. But the music of then is far, far superior to the mindless garbage produced today.
So, this was a pretty cool movement. But every generation has their good movements and their bad movements. The generation depicted in this movement was also known for spitting on the veterans who got drafted into the vietnam conflict. Our generation had the "free hugs campaign", which was pretty rad.
With wars breaking out everywhere and a nuclear war with russia seeming inevitable both my wife and i left amsterdam for california in 1965 for it's art, music, and orgies (!). It just seemed that we youth then were tired of wars, and joining a peace movement seemed the right thing to do. We really thought we could change the world for the better, especially around the "summer of love" in 1967. We both hope that a future youthful generations will succeed in PEACE for the world, where we failed.
I hate my fuckin generation, i only can wish that I lived during the 60s, this song alone is way better than all that bieber and lady gaga bullshit, and for some reason this song makes me have tears of joy
If only this generation had won and changed society, we wouldn't be living in all this capitalist bullshit now, where 1% own all the wealth, and nobody gives a shit about anyone else. What a shame, people in the west would have been much happier.
i was listening to this song on an airplane goin bak home from New York. visiting my girlfriend. We were airborne, it was a dark night, i lookd out da window nd saw the NY CITY lights. i kept lookn until i could no longer see the city lights...i jus kept thinkn of my girl...i got teary.....sadly we broke up eight months ago.....still luv u veronica...i hope your happy wherevr u are <3
Am I alone in feeling that back then, at least people could dream and the mass abandon to jaded, cynical corporatism we increasingly witness hadn't yet purchased our societal soul as today? Just listen to the music of 40-50 years ago and the music today and the difference not only in musical styles, but heart and soul become achingly apparent.
@mouse12345ify I'm just 17, so I understand the desire to experience this phenomenon yourself, but not only has society changed to the point where such a social revolution would be impossible to replicate, the magic and mystery of those times gain new momentum when you consider that it was unique. The fact that the magic of the Counterculture now exists only within the art it inspired and the stories of those who were a part of it only makes it more romantic, more legendary.

I've also found that people tend to underestimate the power behind word choice and semantics. Mastery of communication is crucial to shaping the way people view you, and few people realize that.
@charliegrs Oh, my ethnicity is rather complicated. I was born in the Caribbean, lived in Europe from age 2 to 13, and have since resided in the US. So yes, I'm American - sort of.
@RealityRedone The names and the places indeed change generation to generation; however the basic human need for love, decency, and justice in the face of top heavy authority-abuse remain the same. We might be talking about a Government and its war powers in one generation, or Wall Street in another. The pent up social movements we have witnessed this past year are a reminded that, "The more things change, the more they remain the same."
@RealityRedone Thanks for the kind words. I was in the Haight, and I was 19. It was the "Summer of Love," and this song ruined it for everyone. The scene became overwhelmed with wanna-bes and runaways, not to mention tourists and assholes looking for some "free love" with a hippy chick.
@KindBoxes That said, it was a wonderful time to be young. There was a constant feeling in the air that we were changing the world. Any one with long hair was cool and could be trusted. Hitchhiking was safe and so were most drugs. Pot was Mexican and ten bucks would buy enough to last a while, most acid was Owlsley and a couple of bucks a hit. A gallon of gas and or a pack of cigarettes were both 25 cents. The days were long, the nights were cool, and everyone was "Beautiful."
@KyleBarlow93 some of the wealthiest people in this country (those capitalists that you are badmouthing) are a product of my generation. They are not all Left Wing nuts. I sir was born in the 50's, are a product of the 60's, served my country honorably in the US Navy and me and my friend are glad to have been a part of that generation. And by the way, those hippies are the majority of this country. Semer Fi

I've found that the issue with the prominent lack of verbal sophistication you've described is usually founded in willful ignorance of basic language skills - it's not that they don't know how to formulate a coherent sentence, it's just that they don't care.
I've also found that people tend to underestimate the power behind word choice and semantics. Mastery of communication is crucial to shaping the way people view you, and few people realize that.
