Yes, Robert Anton Wilson would definitely embrace the chaos of the Occupy movement on that basis alone. It keeps us one step ahead of the fnords . I'm not a social butterfly, but I've gotta say that I did hang out with Wilson long ago, and he was an absolute hoot. Drunk as a hoot owl but sharper than a tack in the brain. An authentic fellow.
I stood in my garden gazing at the stars in Awe, in particular that one enigmatic wonder of the Universe... Sirius! The Dog Star! It was truly humbling trying to comprehend time and space, the multiverse and the many legends. A beautiful few moments. Then I looked down and saw I'd trodden in a Dog turd and I thought,"I wonder what Robert Anton Wilson would say about this?". Lol! Miss you Bob.
Thanks so much for this wonderful message from the heart. Bob's writing navigated through BS (belief systems) with the ease of a flying lasagna, and yet he could balance sarcasm and optimism in such a masterful way that I couldn't help but smile as I contemplated his analysis of the insanity of our primate herd. I too had the pleasure of Bob and Arlen's company, and your description brought tears. Bob was brilliant, often caustic, but also entirely, disarmingly humble and kind. Thanks, Doug.
About two minutes in and I'm already imagining in my mind some wise ass responses that RAW might have come up with. He would have definitely embraced the term "teabagger".
I love how today, I was thinking of reading and re-listening some of Bob's lectures and essays and when I came back home from a gruelling day at work, my roommate informs me there is a Robert Anton Week going on right now. The timing could not have been more perfect. I wonder what would Bob have to say about how SOPA and the protect IP acr are trying to stop the free flow of information that's going around the world faster and faster, as Bob once pointed out... Thank you Douglas for this video.
More than an obvious question of legal right, I mean to ask if I may incorporate you heavily into a musical collage to expand upon this letter to Bob as it moves me more deeply than the usual "sample fodder" I experiment with and I'd like to make sure I can share it with you personally first. Thank you again for these words I can never find for myself.
From the moment you said "Occupy" I suddenly started crying more truly than I have in a long time, if ever. I wished I could be sitting there with you telling Bob how I made him a surrogate father from the moment my own father *caught* me with a copy of Illuminatus! at age 15, only half my life ago. "Don't believe anything you read in that book. You understand?", he said. Looking back now as a card-carrying pOPE, I should call his Ohio Tea Party voting ass and thank him. May I sample, please?
Nicely put. I laugh all the time about the current political climate thinking about RAW's 'Guns and Dope' party in the back of my head. It is surely the secret to populist success.
Bleh, I would hope that RAW would have a more skewed and less trite insight into current events.
