@xposedbones i used the spline effector just to align the spheres along a formular spline. By increasing and decreasing the interpolation points of the spline its shape changed, that's the movement you see.
No, sorry! I used a Formula-Spline, attatched a bunch of spheres to it and put everything under a Metaball-Object. The movement comes from changing the "steps" in the Formula-Spline. I used XPresso for that, but just animating the parameters would work as well.
