  • @CutThroatAlex There's quite a few street-legal muscle cars running 6's and packing over 2,000 hp...don't bother saying "well a v8 isn't efficient" because (if you wanted to learn something) displacement is just a hole, it doesn't weigh anything, you can get far more torque and power from a v8 than a straight 6 and on a far less stressful tune. Plus, an aluminum v8 usually weighs in at around 450 lbs, while the 2jz weighs over 500 lbs.

    Turbochargers have been used on AMERICAN cars since the early 1960's. I.E. the GM Y Body.. The 1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass Jetfire, and the Chevrolet Corvair. Matter of fact, they were the first production automobiles to use turbochargers.

    Study up on that subject a little bit..

  • What's so special about the Porsche GT2? And how the hell did you get onto simple old straight line speed? I thought people liked imports because of the supposed "better" handling.

    The C6 Z06 is very similar to the Porsche GT2 acceleration wise, just a tad quicker, yet with the same top speed. 0-60 is quicker, 0-100 is quicker, 1/4 mile is 2 tenths of a second quicker, and they both top out at 198 MPH. So, it's not really anything amazing. I mean come on, a humble American car does it.

    The fastest street legal car is American - Rod Saboury's 2,400 Horsepower 1963 427 twin turbo Corvette. Which runs 6.9's at 210 MPH.

    The fastest dragsters are American - Top Fuel dragsters, which produce 8,000 BHP, and run low 4's at over 300 MPH.

    The fastest street legal production car to go around the Nurburgring is American - The Dodge Viper ACR.

    The Donkervoort's, the Radicals, they're purpose built non-street legal track cars. The Gumpert Apollo Speed would be the closest to street legal, but I believe on the Nurburgring testing, it wasn't set up for road use.

    Whether you've got a small engine running PSI from a montrous turbocharger, or you've got a 572 BBC that displaces huge amounts of air naturally aspirated. It's about displacement. There's no replacement for displacement.

    What good would a car with 24 cylinders be, if them cylinders were the size of my finger nail, and could only flow 2 CFM of air? No good at all.

  • What the hell are you not getting? It's about DISPLACEMENT. If the engine DISPLACES a particular amount of air, and can physically burn X amount of fuel, it may make X amount of power with the right setup.

    You little Youtube mechanics need to go back to school, or at least graduate in the first place. DISPLACEMENT doesn't end at the ENGINE SIZE. DISPLACEMENT is the amount of AIR that is being DISPLACED in the engine.

    DO YOU GET IT NOW? DISPLACEMENT does not rely on an engine's size.

    When you wave your hand in the air, and you feel a small breeze, what are you doing? YOU'RE DISPLACING the air around you. Now is your hand an engine? NO!

    When you're running a turbo setup, and you measure it in boost, that boost is measured because of pressure backed up in the manifold. That means you're going to displace much more air than that engine physically could in a naturally aspirated setup.

    Get it yet?

    A 3.4 liter stroker Supra engine can have the displacement of a nearly stock 502 big block Chevy, it just needs to flow about 600-700 CFM. That's all.

  • Those are two different sentences, and nowhere did I say that the physical size of an engine is it's displacement.

    Displacement does not rely on engine size, because displacement is flow, the amount of air and fuel flowing through the heads, and out through the exhaust. Displacement is exactly what it says, it's when you're displacing something. Big amounts of displacement, compression, efficient burning characteristics, and good valve flow is what makes power. Not the size of an engine.

  • I'll give you a very good example, the Mustang in this video.

    The Mustang in this video makes roughly 3,000 Horsepower. In order to burn that huge amount of fuel required to make that amount of power, his engine would be flowing easily 2,500 PLUS CFM, at very high amounts of pressure.

    That does not necessarily relate to the physical size of the engine block. It's all a matter of how many CFM the engine will flow. Which is why you see Supras making 500+ RWHP with ease.
