  • nice! are you left-handed? What brand/model of kit is that?

    Great job! Thanks.

  • @vkiperman Thank you. Yeah, I'm left handed. It's a Roland TD-10. It's a great kit. It's served me well over the years.

  • @adzug AH as long as it felt good playing it don't worry about it. PLay it however you want. Thanks a lot for watching!

  • Hey phil, steve here. I play Rush, Deep-Purple ,Yes, and old school stuff.

Hey, you really have good technique,it's hard these days to find a drummer with

    feeling.Very good!

    Keep it up.

    Steve N

  • Thanks a lot Steve. Thanks for watching.

  • Great cover man, I subbed for the Smashing Pumpkins stuff but I saw this, and its sick. I'd be really cool if you did something off of STP's album Core. Keep it up, and its also cool to see a person using an electric kit and not being hated on.

  • Thanks a lot. Oh believe me, a lot of people DO hate my electric kit haha. And they love telling me so. Thanks a lot for watching.

  • get an acoustic set

  • Got an acoustic set. Had a featured video with my acoustic set.

  • Dude that was good. How long you been playin?

  • Sounds like your snare isoff beat but just barely...other than that it is great....5/5

  • sounded pretty darn to me

  • awesome song...you are really good....I'm happy to finally know i am not the only left handed drummer alive....

  • heh... I'm right handed and play the same way. :)

  • DUDE! What kind of drums you got??

    *please reply back

  • I can't stop watching your cover songs now..... I'm an absolute drum nerd and I always love watching great drum videos, and I haven't seen a bad one so far that you've made. Plus, your taste in music is so similar to mine that it makes it even more enjoyable.

    KEEP THIS SHIT UP! :)

  • Wow! Thank you! Thanks a lot for watching them :)

  • Dude! I never knew you did a cover of this song till i was searchin covers!

Maybe I should go look through the rest of your older stuff to see what else you did...

  • lefties unite!

  • thats awesome that you can play on a right handed kit awesome playing

  • Wow dude, you're an awesome drummer. I love this song too - great cover! and lol at the shirt: "i am phil" haha

  • Haha thanks

  • Hate you, man-- Your some damn good. Peace!

  • rock on

  • SEÑOR BATERO

    muy buenos tus videos

muy prolijo y preciso para tocar

    exelente :)

  • congratulations!!!!

    you like p.o.d. (wuv)

  • very good!

  • You have a hell of an advantage being a lefty on a right handed kit. That is awesome. Good job.

  • if its a hell of an advantage then why don't us right handed drummers get lefty sets?

  • Well smartass, they do make hydraulic controlled highhats that you can put on your right side. And you can make any right hand kit a left handed kit. I bet you are the genuis that walks into a music store and asks for left handed sticks.

  • very cool....

u should do some audi slave covers, like show me how to live, exploder, gasoline and stuff like that...it whold sound prety cool

  • Wow man that was awesome are you left handed, because you play your hat with your left?

  • eres un crack....

    cojonudo.

  • start doing radiohead. I realize they're not as drum oriented, but you sure as hell look alot like phil.

  • thats cool man and thats really interesting how you play your hats

  • where can I get tabs for drum to this song?

  • I'm sorry I have no idea

  • Very nice! You should do more STP covers.

  • nice job,and nice shirt lol

  • awesome come jam with me

  • Hahahahaha you dropped the sticks on pourpose? lol!

  • GOOOOOOOD JOB!! xD

  • very good man

  • nice job man... 5/5. check mine out if you got some spare time. rock on.

  • Thanks a lot. I'll check it out now

  • That's fantastic!

I have a question for you.

What kind of advice you give a beginner drummer on keeping straight quarter notes on the high-hat, while playing the bass drum?

That is pretty much the only thing I can't do.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks a lot. Well, I never took any lessons so I can only tell you how I learned to do everything I know. I just played along to slowly songs involving that, and then once you've got it, you can play whatever speed you want. Whatever happens, just keep trying and one day you'll get it. Thanks again

  • No. Thank you. That may accually help me.

  • best drummer on youtube

  • wow, thank you

  • What kind of amplification do you use? Do you always record with the roland presets or you connect to the pc for more sounds?

    btw fantastic groove!

  • Thanks. I use the sounds that are already on the Roland and usually I just use headphones. If I'm recording a video like this one, I connect it straight to the camera

  • nice stuff, might i suggest sitting down and taking a look at your grip again... it seems to be effecting your playing ---

not trying to dig you but if your putting stuff up on youtube constructive criticism can never hurt.

  • Thanks. Effecting it in what way? I hold the sticks as lose as I can and it feels comfy. Nothing wrong with criticism, I just don't understand what you think is wrong with it

  • It seems like you hold the sticks very close to the bottom. To me, your hi-hat technique is wrong --- it's very flat. If your playing 8ths on hi-hat there should be two distinct sounds (well unless you want that effect). the first hit should be about 1" down from the tip of the stick then on your up motion you tap tip of the stick (one solid motion two different sounds). Also your ghost notes are too loud as a result of holding it so low, ghost notes should be easy and more felt than heard.

  • The reason it may look like I'm holding them at the bottom is because I use Vic Firth Extreme 5A. They're longer than most sticks so it may give the impression that I'm holding on to the very end of them

  • Dude, awesome cover, I love stp. Btw what kind of sticks do you use?

  • Thanks a lot for watching. I use Vic Firth X5A. They're slightly longer than normal 5A's and it suits me perfectly. Thanks again

  • damn nice job

    cool shirt

  • Thank you!

  • oh my god i now now what im going to look and be like when im your age i love stp i play drums and i play drums exactly like you like with your left hand for the hi hat.

  • Oh cool. A lot more people play this way when I first thought. Keep it up. Good luck with it

  • Hey man. Once again, awesome stuff.

I bought a Roland kit the other day, expecting to get it soon. Just wondering if you have many mesh heads break or sensor stop working from bashing the hell out of them?

I like to pound on the drums, I just dunno how hard is too hard.

  • Thanks a lot. I've had no problems with the ROland at all, apart from after 5 years, one of my cymbal pads cracked underneath. It still worked fine, but it just got a crack in it. That's after 5 YEARS though. The kit in general can take a beating. Check out my 'this is a call' video by Foo Fighters to see what a beating it can withstand. Thanks again

  • Phil u have a great taste in music and ur an amazing drummer good luck with ur new band man

  • Thanks a lot. That's very kind of you. Thank you

  • the best part? the ending! love dat flapping, hahahahaha

  • damn, really nice. man, i wish i had that kit. its sick. really nice cover, good song. nice job. your a gifted man Phil.

  • wow thank you. Thanks a lot

  • phil, do you think you could send me an mp3 of just you on the drums for this song? i really wanna make a cover of it and I don't have or play drums.

    MightyMaul

  • Ha! You play the same way I do. Left hand on hi-hat, right on snare. Good job man! One of my favorite STP songs.

  • awesome!

    Have you played meatplow???

  • For those who don't understand it. This is what drumming is all about.

    Great feel man!

  • yeahhhhhhhh gr8 job with a decent Band

  • nice work bro!!!how long did it take you to nail this song!!

  • Thanks a lot. It's just one of those I knew from growing up so I didn't really take any time to sit down and learn it. Thanks again

  • to much snare but really good, good job

  • theres not too much snare..lots of ghost notes in this track!!

  • dude wat the heck u frickin nailed that song it sounded just like im not worshipping u but your awesome! XD XD XD

  • Haha cool. Thanks a lot

  • Any chance you can do Plush or Big Empty by Stone Temple Pilots? I haven't seen any videos of them and they sound really fun on drums.

  • You have very good ghosting man.

  • nice...

  • OH GOD no! just no! people like you rot the minds of our youth, blech

  • hahaha nice shirt

  • i know right i want one that says im Andrew

  • Eric Kretz would be proud.

  • phil... ur gnarly

  • fuck yeah dude, nice choice of music, how much do you think a setup like your would cost?? I am truly jealous of your set haha

  • Thanks a lot. Yeah, it's a great song. The Roland TD-10 has come right down in price now. It's about $4,500 now instead of around $10,000. Thanks again

  • does the TD-10, feel identical or almost identical to an accoustic kit, beause thats the only thing thats been holding me back from and electic kit (well, that and the hefty price tag)

  • Once you've got your headphones on it really does feel similar to an acoustic kit. Acoustic kits will always be better but the TD-10 is a really great practice tool. I love it. And it's helped me 300% with drumming

  • dude you should cover the pretender from the foo fighters and good stp song choice

  • dude, this song fucking rox, you should do "Down" by Stone Temple Pilots. it would be awesome !

  • man! i always watch your videos because im a super SP fan... and my second favorite band is The Stone Temple Pilots... you rock man!!!! i hope you do more of their songs... anyways... great drumming, have a nice day!

  • Haha cool. Thanks as always. Yeah, they're a great band

  • This song is on Rock Band.

  • no its not.

  • not heard this song but its prett cool. nice job

  • You've never heard this song before? O_o

  • this is awsome gets some more stp quick good idea for the covers

    SO HAPPY THEY ARE BACK

  • I'd really love you to play SP's 'Drown'...

  • Careful Phil! You almost exploded your snare around 2:20!

  • Rock on!

  • I'm not sure. I just sent the track to Pook and he works his magic. I don't know who's in it

  • fabulous song, excellently done

  • Awesome cover, Phil. You should wear a t-shirt which reads "I AM NOT POOK" TEE-HEE!

  • Hey Pook, I think its finally time to do that collab. Are you in Phil?

  • Which collab is this?

  • this song

  • Oh right. I only ask because I sent Pook the drum track for Plush and thought you might of meant that. Are you gonna be on that one? Can't wait to see how it turns out

  • no.
