Speaking of June looking cheerful during the comedy, Anita's face certainly matches the sad song lyrics! I can't help but feel bad for her as I watch this. By the way, what's with June's right arm when she first sings the chorus, at around 3:24? It looks like maybe she's trying to keep rhythm, but I've never seen anyone do it like that before.

June was use to strumming an instrument while writing songs and singing, especially the autoharp. That's also why her hand and fingers look a little different. That's how the autoharp is strummed.

Oh, c'mon. Divorcing/divorced husbands and wives performing together is an old tradittion. The original Carter Family consisted of A.P. and Sara Carter, who were estranged/divorced and June's mother Maybelle. Lucy and Desi kept performing while they were estranged.

My mom and dad have been divorced for nearly 20 years but remain best friends... but is that because they grew up 20 miles on either side of the Carter Family Fold near the Virginia/Tennessee line? Must be the way of the mountains... :)
