  • Nice review the only thing I disagree with you on is the soundtrack.. The music of Chrono Trigger is EPIC! orchestra's today still play it just look here on youtube for some video's.

  • I haven't played it on DS but I LOVE the original on SNES

  • As far as turn-based RPGs are considered...they are better at integrated multiple characters into battle sequences, because when an action RPG tries to have multiple player-controlled characters, the whole fighting sequence, which is meant to be "realistic", does not look realistic at all. Action RPGs only function well with a single character...the Castlevania games immediately come to mind...but as I love playing RPGs with many characters, I like hybrid RPGs like the Baldur's Gate games.

  • I think it's sad that all video game companies can do these days is re-release the great RPGs of the past, since they don't make good RPGs anymore, and they know it.

  • Hey I took ur advice about DQ games, and it brought me to a standstill, ok $30, shood I buy DQ6 realms of revelation for my dsi or buy a new gba including final fantasy 1 & 2 dawn of souls? Well I went with the new gba and final fantasy. Do u think this was a good choice?

  • I am going to buy one of the New Nintendo handhelds. I own PS3, Xbox 360 & PSP, but I have been gaming since NES. My favorites games have elements of Action, Adventure & RPG, all in one. Example of my favorites games: Fallout 3, Oblivion, Assssins Creed BH, Dragon Age & many more. I don't need to play Mature games, but I do feel that I enjoy them a bit more. My question is of what games I should but with the system? Can someone please give me some direction? So far, CT & 9H, 9p, 9D?

  • Hey btw r there any dragonball z fans up in here? Cuz I know I'm one fo sho!!!!!

  • @tofferslime

I like the dragon ball manga, when Goku was a kid the most, but I enjoyed dragon ball z (Japanese with English subs, preferably) Vegeta was my favorite character. But I watch a lot of anime, and haven't seen DBZ since I was 15 or so. (9 years ago)

  • Hey ariadragonfly! I love this review and since you seem like a smart rpg player, would u recommend dragonquest games to a chrono trigger/final fantasy fan like me? Cuz I hav yet to play this dragonquest 6 I've been hearin so much about.

  • @tofferslime

I completely would! I have played 5,6,8 and 9 and loved all of them, I have meant to play the rest but unfortunately life and other games have gotten in the way. They are really deep on story and character development, battle system is okay, I don't know how I feel about it in earlier iterations, though it is fine to me in 8 and 9.

  • Has anyone ever told you that you are hot when you talk Chrono Trigger to people?

    `(^w^)>

  • @StoneMonkWisdom

Well thank you, no I can't say anyone has. Always nice to receive a compliment though.

  • What's your fav rpg of all time? If you could choose 1 to play apart from chrono trigger?

  • @ViralZen That is a tough question, Dragon Age and Mass Effect (if it counts) are my current favorite RPGs, Threads of Fate and FF7 are old favorites that I play over and over along with Zelda OOT (again if that even counts). I just don't think I have an all time favorite, but those are probably my top picks.

  • @AriaDragonfly Thanks for the quick reply. I havent heard of Threads of Fate and im into old school right now (currently trying to finish ff1). Mine is still chrono trigger. It's one of the handful of rpg's that ive had the patience to finish :P

  • @ViralZen

Threads of fate is an old playstation game developed by square, it was overshadowed by the release of chrono cross and didn't get the attention it deserves!

  • ♥ .

  • i so don't like RPG's

zelda though, i like, but's thats an action rpg i gues;p

but this chronotrigger, i'm tempted to get the snes version complete

i like the designs, and im not even a toriama fan ;p

what you think if your not an RPG gamer how this game stacks up

  • @9nova6 Hard to say since I am a hardcore RPG fan, it's my favorite genre of game followed by simulation games (harvest moon, sims, etc) What do you not like about RPG's the turned base system? Chronos a bit faster paced in the battles then some rpgs, but if it's the turned based system you don't like I would recommend the Tales of Series or Star Ocean.

  • Not just a great game, but THE BEST game, ever, period. And I've played alot...alooot of games :<

  • @menroflkuk

hehe it is certainly one of my favorites, and I have also played a lot of games, so many that I'm running out of my favorite genres it seems. Happy to have found and started playing dragon quest though!!

  • holy shit! hot girls play games! who knew?

  • ... shining forces 2 is better! Its a fact :D

  • you shouldent be playin games, you should be suckin sum dick HO nah ur mouth looks just about right!

  • @CrazyFlamingHobo1

Har har har you so funny.

  • @AriaDragonfly plez do ur job because women having rights is a joke MEN are superior in everyway, women are only here to pleeeeeeeeeeease us sexually, nothing more

  • @CrazyFlamingHobo1

Nah I think it's another way, men are here to serve us, while the women please each other sexually!

  • @AriaDragonfly I like your style

  • I love Chrono Trigger. Definitely one of the best RPGs of all time (the best I have ever played). But I can't understand why you say the music is "basic." The music is amazing, and certainly the best video game music I have come across.

  • @SalvableRuin Well, I played a lot of RPGs in my time, and I stand by Aria's decision of rating it "basic". It truly is nothing extraordinary, and it doesn't try to be. And that's fine. It works much better than most RPGs which try to have a fantastic, over-hyped or over-budget soundtrack, and come off as completely mediocre - like the first Kingdom Hearts. I have no griped with its' opening, but everything else is not memorable at all, and this is also the case in Chrono Trigger, in my opinion.

  • @RebornAleph I find it interesting that you guys think that. I find the Chrono Trigger soundtrack to have some of the best, most memorable music of any game that I have played. I loved it as a teenager, I love it now. I have not come across another RPG that had such memorable music. I am playing Final Fantasy II, for example, and the music isn't remotely interesting so far. Anyway, if you could point me to some awesome classic RPGs with great music, I'd appreciate it (esp. on Wii VC).

  • @SalvableRuin Well, like you said, it boils down to preference.

As far as classic RPGs go that I can point you out, I'm sorry to say I only became aware of RPGs when the Suikoden series, the Persona series and Final Fantasy VI were the games to play. Many other classics before that time I only played as an adult and would not be able to rate as memorable considering my other experiences beforehand, so I can only recommend Suikoden II and Wild Arms (1st) as an example of two great soundtracks.

  • @RebornAleph Chrono Trigger won EGM's best RPG and best music awards in 1995. Just pointing it out. Doesn't mean you have to like it.

  • @SalvableRuin

I suppose it's because it never stood out to me, but then I rarely notice in game music as it is, unless it's obnoxious, or someone is singing prettily.

When I think back on chrono trigger I remember the great characters and wonderful storyline and entertaining battle system, I can't remember a single piece of music. I'm sure if I heard it, I would say, oh that's from chrono, but I wouldn't be able to hum any off hand.

  • @AriaDragonfly Yeah, it's the opposite with me. I can remember and hum several Chrono Trigger tunes, even after years of not playing it.

  • I give YOU an A+. Keep up the good work.

  • Wat. There are no girls on the internets.

  • I love this game <3.

  • chrono cross was awesome too! why can't they remake that?

  • Great review! I haven't had a chance to play Chrono Trigger yet, but I plan on buying it next month.

By the way, Dungeon Keeper 2 rocks. Spent a LOT of time playing DK2 back in the day; unfortunately my copy is having issues these days.

    Great video!

  • GREAT REVIEW

1 small nit pic, i also love CT's graphics, but i woudent say there the pinnacle of 2d graphics, check out Castlevania symphany for ps1, also not the pinnacle for 2d graphics, but better than CT

  • CT is one of the best 2D graphics of its time.

You have to remind yourself that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was developed for the Playstation (a newer console), and CT was developed for the SNES 16-bit console).

Also,CT is entirely 2D (SNES and in-game), whereas SotN is 2D with many 3D elements (many things rendered in 3D, and in-game).

  • @tgpgrimreaper ok i understand you point, but using the word "pinnacle" systems and bits are thrown out the window, pinnacle, meaning the best ever

  • Chrono Trigger is still my favorite game to this day. I remember getting this for my birthday in 1995 and I've never been as excited as I was on that day. I really think it's just that great of a game.

I think I may have replayed this game maybe oh...around 20 or so times? I don't think I've done that with any other game. Good review :)

  • Hmmh, what can I say... she likes Chrono Trigger, so she's got a great taste for games :)

Seriously, I've always thought Chrono Trigger is far superior to any jRPG (Xenogears & Valkyrie Profile comes close). I dare you to name another jRPG with equally high replay value than Chrono Trigger.

  • Haha I pretty much have to agree with you there, I replay Chrono Trigger atleast once a year if not more and there are very few other games that happens to. Ocarina of time, FF7, Threads of Fate, FF6, and yeah I know so corny but sailor moon another story rpg... that would be my girlishness coming through oh that and every harvest moon ever. Hey you have to allow me some feminine game taste!

  • Well, atleast it's not stereotypical as Sims :P

  • Try The World Ends With You, it doesn't have multiple endings, but it's still an amazing game.

  • I must interject, I have jplayed a series superior to Chrono Trigger *that's saying a lot coming from me seeing as CT is still my favorite.* SMT Persona series is so much more then just a JRPG... so much depth. I recommend it to all whom have played CT you shan't be dissapointed... while your at it play as many SMT *shin megami Tensei* games as you can.

  • I played through Persona 4 and I liked it alot. It had a fair share of humor, battle system was fairly simple yet interesting and the Persona fusing was also a huge plus. Only downside with Persona's is just the huge number of them, I'm pretty sure there's over a hundred of them.. like you'd actually need all of them anyway :P

  • I haven't really played P4 yet, I'm still on P3, and actually P1... that's the one you should check out. their completely different... well in a sense.

  • @MJ1284 I highly disagree with your statements. Yes Chrono Trigger is one of my faves,I think Xenogears is a far superior game in all ways. But thats just me, why Xenogears is a better game? I will have to make a vid on that.

  • Mmh, you'll do that MagusX1.

Don't ge me wrong, I liked Xenogears (good plot, good characters, addictive battle system) but it got bit too "heavy" towards the end.. I literally spend 2/3 of the gameplay time just skipping dialogue on the 2nd disk.

For a moment it felt like I'm playing Planescape: Torment because of all the dialogue, but I still had the patience to go through the game once (and it was worth it).

In short, Xenogears felt really good but it got little tedious towards the end.

  • @MJ1284 Thats your thoughts, the pay out at the end was worth the massive amounts of Dialogue. Chrono Trigger, i think is not as good is because of the fact that it does not have the level of depth in its story, Xenogears imo has an unparalleled depth that not even Chrono Trigger has....

  • Thank you! ^.^

  • Your eyes are broken dude. Get help.

  • Hah! You must be thinking of another woman in another video, cause this one aint ugly in the least!

  • i have to agree with you. this game was AMAZING! i just bought it last week for the DSI and...i fell in love with it and i am only half way through it....i think haha

  • Yeah, good game and all, but come on, we're buying same game for the third time !!! Shouldnt they make something ELSE that would be JUST AS GOOD ? Or is it that they cant do it anymore. Thats all Square does, reselling old games.

And you should speak up, i have to turn my speakers to twice the usual volume level to hear you.

  • Well, it's looking like their strategy of reselling old games is faltering. If you recall, it was a conscious effort in part of SE to resell these games to make ends meet and look what happens. On the other hand, I am loving Dragon Quest V and Star Ocean: The Last Hope is debatable whether its good.

  • Please post some more videos of you singing. You have such a beautiful voice! A cover of Poe's 'Amazed' would be nice, for example.. =)

  • I blame my genetics honestly, I'm adopted but my birth family is all totally into video games, I even play wow with them!

  • why cant girls be more like you when it come to games??? I still dont get it ...

I tell a girl that i like games and stuff and almost every time they say ... your a kid!! GROW UP!!

    Why? O__o xD

  • it's cool to see how universal chrono trigger is...I mean I was such an RPG nerd back in the day I thought my sister would also end up an avid gamer, but to this date chrono trigger is the only video game she played to the point of finishing every ending and side quest (without my help)! yes I am proud
