My friend wants to join the Marines and I want to join the Paras. What is all this about "This unit is better than that unit" To be honest they both have advantages. They work on two totally different types of jobs. The R.M.C. are elite as are the Para's. I am currently 15 years of age and i plan on joining the Para's as my uncle did. And for another thing i am 15 years of age and i know myself that i show more maturity than some of you people who comment on how good units are. P.S. All these people arguing whether Paras or Marines are better... All the Marines I've met have been fucking top lads with me. So what's the issue? The issue I see is too many keyboard warriors trying to sound nails by dissing either Maroon or Green lids because it makes them look hard on Jewtube. The real picture is that on the MANY occasions that Paras and Marines DO bump into each other, they each maintain masses of respect for each other (though to say there's no banter would be a lie...)
Fitness and determination? A Marine would get thru Para training and vice versa. its about heart and determination. they all got it in spades! but the RM has its own infastructure. it is a stand alone entity capable of going lock stock and barrel into theatre either arctic, amphibious, jungle or desert.. The Paras have to rely on the various other branches of the British Army to get them from A to B. Sad but true, great lads but they may well get disbanded by the bastard MOD
@hoofing100 Don't worry they won't get disbanded by the MOD. They are now more important than ever because of the decrease in the standard infantry battalions. The 16th Air Assault Brigade and 3 Commando are the two which will be called on first in most situations. It supports the UK's foreign policy now also for a quick response force able to hit anywhere in the world. They mentioned keeping trade routes free, like for example if Egypt attempted to block Suez, we would send em in. Just like 52.
the rivalry between the para's and the royal marines is just banter, its like if your mate supports you rival football club, no need to get angry about who is better :)

@TheEnglishBadman good luck to you in your training, if i remember rightly the requirements by the end of the training is 1.2-1.8km (1- 1.5 mile) in 10mins, 50 sit ups in 2 mins, 50 push ups in 2 mins and 10 pull ups (british infantry regiment, not para's or marine's) so if you train hard for the 4 weeks you should be able to do it.
song is bit fluffy but the point to the vid is blinding, proud to bits of all our forces but the para lads and the marines lead the way, caught a few smacks by both in my younger years so have a special knowledge how hard the buggers row.

And, incase you hadn't noticed all the Guards regiments have done tours of Iraq and Afghanistan and preformed very well. The Grenadiers have just returned from their second tour, the Coldstream Guards will be returning form their second tour soon as well. The Irish Guards are due to deploy to Herrick soon too.

the specialist's within the british army are more of sworn brothers than anything, it takes an entire different breed of person to do what they do, but that training, and the missions they do, bring them closer, none can compare to the marine's and the red devils (para's) in the world, me and my friend are training at the moment to one day meet the standards to attempt to join the ranks of the para's

2) Marine commando training is 32 weeks, not the 24 the paras do
3) royal marine commando's are known for being the worlds most elite fighting force, any terrain, any condtion any place, like the faulklands 90miles in 3 days with over 60kg of kit.
if you are going to state your own history you might as well try to get it right .. it was a combined force of paras and marines and they yomped 90km which is 56 miles carrying 90lbs with is 36kgs of kit

@TheEnglishBadman good luck to you in your training, if i remember rightly the requirements by the end of the training is 1.2-1.8km (1- 1.5 mile) in 10mins, 50 sit ups in 2 mins, 50 push ups in 2 mins and 10 pull ups (british infantry regiment, not para's or marine's) so if you train hard for the 4 weeks you should be able to do it.

Whatever81417 you do realise everyone calls the Foot Guards wooden tops right? This is because Bearskins consists of the bear skin and a series on bamboo canes.
And, incase you hadn't noticed all the Guards regiments have done tours of Iraq and Afghanistan and preformed very well. The Grenadiers have just returned from their second tour, the Coldstream Guards will be returning form their second tour soon as well. The Irish Guards are due to deploy to Herrick soon too.

why are u having this argument about whose better every1 knows marines are much better than paras for many reasons for example:
1) why would you jump out of a perfectly good plane? Thats just stupid
2) Marine commando training is 32 weeks, not the 24 the paras do
3) royal marine commando's are known for being the worlds most elite fighting force, any terrain, any condtion any place, like the faulklands 90miles in 3 days with over 60kg of kit.

Marines are arctic trained, jungle trained, and trained in amphibious warfare are the paras? no.
