basically i had a good background of chinning strength and could pull 20 easy before i started. then i found an assisted chinup machine in my gym and worked it one arm, for 3 sets of 10 (alternating 5 on each side) each workout. upon full completion of an assistance weight i dropped it by the smallest amount possible. a few months of that at the start of every workout and thats it prettymuch, but im now attacking it a different way to fill in the blanks in strength
soo, when u say "workout" waht sort of workouts where you doing then, di you do the 3 sets of ten with your back/bi's or just varied? and if possible tell me what the rest of your workout consisted of briefly
well basically when i started i was doing random stuff each daybut shortly after i wrote a new program. however it wasnt exactly anything to do with chinups: i did an alternating program so i'll put slashes between each part if they were different. one arm assisted chins, squat/deadlift, bench press/military press, shrugs, core work, superset chins-dips
ok fair enough, s pretty much like 2 times a week, one time wiht oyur squat n bench workout, the other with your deadlift n military press workout, and all the abs and chin dip supersets for every workout. ye pretty much am i right?
thats dead on except the two days a week, i try for 3-4 days a week and if something's too sore i just go light on it, i just listen to my body and see what i can get away with lol
ok, great, this is helping heaps for making my own program, so let me get this straight, you were doing your other workouts, standard workouts like 3-4 times and also the one arm training 3-4 times at the beggining of every workout, or did oyu have more standard workouts, sorry but this will help me heaps.
yeah basically i try for 3-4 days in the gym with the workouts and one arm training at the \start of each of them, along with all the stuff i do at home which is likke a few minutes at a time spur of the moment stuff, handstands, front lever and planche progressions, one arm negatives (only recently) and whatever else lol.
Go look at T-nation's definition of a pullup page and come back and say that, trust me a supinated grip is a chin-up and a pronated grip is a pull-up. Whichever one you train is easier. How about this: you post a reason why I should take your expert knowledge over that of everyone else in the world and i'll believe you mate :)
i regained this number by training for one arm chins, it was about 17 before i did that training
it dropped from 23 comfortably with a personal best ever of 28 to that 17 because i stopped training for about 4 months and never trained chins for number anymore.
however i feel having this strength memory helped my training, that and a lot of good old teenage male hormones :P
great stuff, i can do one with the form you have here but not a second :/

Thanks man, I'm proud of myself for them even though i still havent reached my goal of doing them from a dead hang :)

Good effort dude.

those are pullups not chinups. chins have an overhanded grip and are more difficult.

really excellent! maybe try for around 5 dead hang as a goal
alx177 3 years ago
im setting my ultimate dream at 24 dead hang alternating (12 each side, one after the other)
lol my realistic goal is probs more likely around the 10 alternating
thanks for the comment man, its good to know people notice :P
HarlnivorousBeast 3 years ago
Wow, that is very impressive! It takes a great deal of strength to be able to do that. What is the maximum number of two-handed chinups you can do?
dvoraksym 3 years ago
At the moment, about 20-21
