elizalalala you did such a wonderful thing by helping these squirrels. They are the cutest things ever! I get such joy from watching the squirrels in my back yard. I've always wanted to be a wildlife rehabilitator but I'm afraid I'd get too attached to the babies.
You should try it! It seems like it will be hard to let them go until you actually do it... you can't even imagine the joy of seeing something you raised running joyfully free in the treetops. Plus, if you feed the squirrels, you will get to see your friends on a regular basis!
My squirrels aren't domesticated, they are just babies in this video. When squirrels are young they can be (but are not always) fairly tame while they are raised for release. All of my wildlife rehabilitation squirrels become quite wild before they are ultimately released (and this one is doing quite well in my backyard at this point, but does not want me near it anymore.)
When it is time to release it, wear heavy gloves so you can gently, firmly, and briefly restrain it every time it approaches you. Active squirrels hate to be restrained and it will learn to avoid humans if you do this consistently. Also, make sure it does not associate humans with food (put its food in a bowl instead of handing it out with your fingers.)
They just got released into a tree in my backyard yesterday, and they think freedom is the best thing ever! It's great to watch them jumping through the branches and know I had a part of them even being alive now.
I totally know the feeling you are describing. I have raised them for over 20 years as a Vet tech so seeing your vids brings back memories. I love the way they play like kittens when they are under ten weeks old.
Cheerios..... SO thats what u feed them.. we found a couple of these guys and tried giving them peanut butter (closest thing to nuts we could think.)

The best thing is to look for a wildlife rehabilitator to take it to.

YAY happy animal videos! I assume this also means someone is caring for them, which is terrific and makes me smile.
