This is the same argument that was made when favored natin status for China was being debated. The argument for was that China would benefit from a rise in standard of living for it's people and they would respond by demanding western style Liberty and personal rights. It's been about 20 years now, and I am not sure if it turned out that way. It seems to me that all this wealth has solidified the communists power and we may have inadvertently created a communist superpower.
