  • The RCTs are too weak to be conclusive. Their major weakness is: men with foreskin PROBLEMS (cuts, abrasions, infections) would have gravitated towards the trials to be circumcised. So, THE RCTs MAY NOT REFLECT THE GENERAL MALE POPULATION.

Men assigned to the “Control” got to KEEP their defective foreskin, whilst circumcised men had their defect REMOVED. This would bias results, since the GENERAL male population has far less foreskin problem. Defective foreskin is more prone to HIV infection!

  • Hey you critics. Ever heard of Darwin? You stupid bastards; brainwashed fuckers that drink Coke and dream of TeaParty nut-bars ruling a dying empire. Watch FOX news, thinking it's news, maybe because your lips move when you attempt to read silently. You know who you are.

Think efficiently, if that's your motive. Go drink a bottle of JD in the garage with the car on and the door whit and make it easier on the rest of us who CARE.

  • Anyone who does not recognize Mr. Lewis as a true humanitarian hero, who would stand up for YOU too if you fell victim to a force beyond you, is simply a little, ignorant, short-sighted, DNA-challenged moron. The stuff of science fiction. Hey - I respect your voice. It's your right, as is spray-painting over-passes on LA. freeways. Yea, we've got your number. I hope you're enjoying yourself, because it's pure vomit for anyone who cares about other people.

  • You're in jail and you don't know it, the comfort you have is a cold steel bar and you don't realize it.

Look, I know you may be an idiot. But even the dull and the ignorant have their story. Me? I'd listen to your a story of hope, rather than stones and vitriol directed toward a guy who is up there with Gandhi, MLK and many others who put millions of lives ahead of their own. Thank god, whatever version of the folklore you prefer, for this guy. You should be ashamed.

  • If I had a rocket-launcher, I'd blow you bastards away.

Go take a condom, wrap it over your head and blow until it pops. Surprised? It's your new-born reality - we need family planning.

    Duh !

  • @blueworldmr, if circumcision is so useful a tool against HIV transmission, why is there is so much inconsistency in findings even in Africa, and in the developed world there is NO evidence of a protective effect!

Google/search the 2009 USAID report: "Levels and spread of HIV." (p.109).

The report investigated EIGHTEEN Sub-Saharan countries for HIV against circumcision status. It found a “mixed picture”. In fact, in TEN of the 18 countries, HIV was HIGHER in the CIRCUMCISED men.

    EXPLAIN please!

  • I simply do not understand why you people are so against this man who has brought HIV/AIDS to global attention where otherwise the pandemic would be known only to a handful of important people outside of Africa. Does this have something to do with him not being from this place in the world, because if you have ever listened to the stories of his personal experiences in Africa or the anger in his voice when he describes the dithering of the rest of the world, he is not this evil man you think.

  • @crazyinsanekid2 The problem with this man is that he is diverting effort that could be spent on legitimate AIDS prevention and treatment and other ways of improving quality of life in Africa. He is using illegitimate science to support his preconceived bias that circumcision will somehow prevent HIV, despite the enormous quantity of evidence to the contrary. He has effectively set the campaign to end AIDS back by billions of dollars.

  • Stephen Lewis is a bombastic windbag, who pretends to be a champion of human rights. Scratch the surface and you will find a wounded child, a disturbed human being lashing out at others.

  • Wow, Stephen Lewis makes me sick. He is a baby mutilating evil man.

  • @TheFenceandtheJug

    What???!

  • @bayesianconspiracy Look him up.

  • @TheFenceandtheJug

I am guessing you are referring to his promotion of circumcision as one preventative for HIV transmission. I looked up studies on its efficacy and found that most (e.g., Gray et al.) agree that it is an effective preventative. Do you know of dissenting studies or are you objecting purely on some sort of ethical grounds?

It seems to me that whether he is wrong or right about circumcision, "baby mutilation" for its own sake is not his goal... and "evil" is a big stretch.

  • @bayesianconspiracy Um... it is mutilation. And that is evil. Therefore, he as a promoter of mutilating babies is evil. I see no stretching here.

But, I am not going to debate male genital mutilation online. Everyone who is for it is either a sadist, religious zealot, or pedophile. But you should feel free to pick which one Stephen fits into.

  • @TheFenceandtheJug

It is supposed to make HIV transmission 60% less likely. In general I am not in favour of circumcision, but assuming that is true, it could save a lot of lives. So "everyone who is for is either a sadist, religious zealot, paedophile, or cares about saving lives."

I don't think circumcision is generally a good thing, but for this purpose... um, yes. Human Life > Foreskin.

  • @bayesianconspiracy So are you for or against the mutilation of babies who will not be having sex for at least 10 years?

I couldn't care less about an adult's choice to cut off pieces of their own body.

  • @TheFenceandtheJug

Parental consent is important, but I can see why birth is a good time to get it done. Otherwise lots of people would slip through the cracks.

I just don't see your point here. It seems to me the potential lives that could be saved far outweigh the costs of this "mutilation" as you put it. I am neither a sadist, nor religious, nor a paedophile btw. And I am circumcised, something I won't do to my kids, but I do not begrudge my parents for doing to me.

  • @bayesianconspiracy Okay fine, there is another type of person who is for it. The amoral idiots. Thanks for reminding me I forgot that one (and for wasting my time here).

  • @TheFenceandtheJug

If you really think this is morally objectionable, shouldn't you try harder to convince me? It makes me think you're posturing. I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing, I am listening to you. Make your case.

  • @bayesianconspiracy Good to hear you won't cut (mutilate) your children's genitals. Lewis however is in such denial about this form of child abuse that he is pushing circumcision on African children based on JUNK SCIENCE claims that are easily disproved. He's a bs artist pretending to be for human rights.

  • @bayesianconspiracy Circumcision does not prevent HIV. Even in Africa, there are six countries where men are more likely to be HIV+ if they've been circumcised: Cameroon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, and Swaziland. The USA has a high rate of circumcision and a high rate of HIV. Yet many countries that are mostly intact have a low rate of HIV. Look at the way the studies were conducted and advertised. Lewis is guilty of spreading false propaganda.

  • @bayesianconspiracy What Lewis is doing is evil, whether he is "aware" of that is another question. The problem with circumcision is that those who have been cut as children generally grow up to enforce that upon their own children without question. They are driven by a psychological need to pass on the genital abuse. Lewis, like most doctors who cut children, and those promoting AIDS/circumcision are motivated by their own buried need to perpetrate their own diminished state.

  • Full of blather and bombast.

  • giant napalm shitting pterodactyls everywhere.
