  • cool, super nerd bassman I like this

  • that there sir is a nice bass

  • Great Job !

this tune is very difficult to play.

    Congrat !

  • how do you get that weather report/jaco sound sound? Is that just reverb and chorus?

  • great sound, amazing, what bass is that?, you play very well!!!!

  • how many frets is that 27?

  • I love your sounds, what is your favorite amp?

  • Check out this guys Giant Steps cover on guitar. I joined his workshop for a brief period, but had to stop for a while. /watch?v=5gOd49Vx8rA

  • Great job on that tune, I like your color choice for your Basses is one of of my favorite colors.

  • Great sound but.... too many notes going everywhere, to less melody line. Use you technique to make MUSIC! You're able to do this I think. Technique enough and a great instrument.

  • @anokatomichali dude I agree! I still suck at this tune - this was just an attempt at getting around the changes but you're right this goes away from the music side of things and into theory and technique - I can do better I know - I've actually learnt a lot from posting this - which is actually the idea - anyway thanks for your honesty. I'll get back to making music now! My own stuff is avalable from iTunes - check out Mike Flynn's Urb album called 'Homespun', it's a lot more musical than this

  • @ijazzmunki Thanks for your reply and understanding! In my days of bassplaying (I played it for 20 years, before 1990 when I stepped over to other instruments) I was - of course - following the master Jaco Pastorius. Jaco was in his playing - with all his musical knowledge - always subsurvient to the music he played. And he often did touch me with his subtility of melodies. Listen f.i. to 'Dreamland' of Michel Colombier. He learned me to step out of exercises and start playing from the heart.

  • @ijazzmunki Its cool to know not only do you take criticism well, but you're very humble player who rocks but you're human! That inspires me man. I've been going at my bass for a while now trying to keep with it and not switch to another instrument because I have a short attention span. Keep kicking ass on the bass dude. I love it when bassist aren't elitist , at least not like guitar players and drummers for the most part. Keeps it humble and makes me want to play more.

  • @MasterxKenobi it's the only way to be man - I still have so much to learn and while I may have good technique it's all about finding the music within and all that - it's all about the journey not the destination - thanks for digging what I'm doing - I'm not great at playing jazz standards - I guess I need to start writing more of my own stuff again - just been really busy with other things! Keep watching - lots more music to come

  • Yeah sorry about my wrist here I know it looks bad but I had the strap set a but too high, I don't normally have it like this - I don't normally bend my wrist so much - hope that's cool

  • Cool play, butt he right wrist is bent way to much.

  • Idiot!!!

  • Really nice. Are you using a filter on this? Sounds really airy.

  • How many hours daily do you practice?

  • @DonaldWaughMusic hey man - I practice as often as I can - that used to be a 3 - 4 hours a day many years ago now it's more like 30mins to an hour - I just keep working on things for years until I get them!

  • nICE vID mIKE.

What I really like and find inspiring in your vids is how you really 'carry' a melody, many bassists (myself included) , think once they can play fast, and can improvise, they can play anything. But it takes a bit of SOUL to play a melody with 'fEeLiNg', You 'sing' the melody just right, that bit is SUNG, not 'played' .

I notice that you didn't go below the 9th fret (less) once you started the solo section, is that deliberate or habit?

  • @HARRADMUSIC thanks mate - appreciate the sentiment - I try to play with heart and not just my head - not always easy but I do try!

  • Great solo Mike! and tone to die for again! Respect

  • @BassmanDannyFox thanks Danny :-)

  • Hey Mike, how do you tune your fretless. From here it looks like EADGC correct me of I am wrong. I am in the process of purchasing my first fretless bass...please give me some advise. Cheers

  • @DonaldWaughMusic no my bass is tuned B - G but I have 26 fret positions so I can play high A on the G string...

  • Bravo...

  • really great

  • I never get tired of the tone of this axe. Sell it to me! Gooo on, gooo on, gooo on!

  • great sound !
