Scribus is a nice publishing program. However, still not as advanced as other more professional programs like quark xpress and indesign. Scribus has the basis tools and features while quark and indesign have more advanced features. But still, it is open source and free! :)
Scribus is terrible. Clunky, confusing and annoying. I would rather pay for Indesign than use a free thing that is as annoying as this. I tried it several times on different computers. Sorry, some freeware is great. I am very pro open source software but Scribus and other open source software don't even come close to replacing InDesign.
i found this prog on the free software foundation site before, and now here. there, it's said you need requirements for this to work. for gimp, i didn't need anything. so do i really need the other progs for scribus to work? thx
could you believe me I spent hours trying to get the resize handles (arrow icon) in a corner of a text frame or any other element in the page?? I am not sure if is something wrong with Scribus or if I am doing something wrong??? I would like knowing if someone else experience this problem ..The resize handles don't always appear when put the mouse on a corner of an element.. :(
how do i create a new page, because when i click file, new, i click ok with the A4 settings, and nothing shows up, its just a toolbar, so what's happeing? I also have ghostscript, please help me!
Open Source and Freeware are not the same thing. Open Source is free in that there is no cost and free in that the source code is freely available. Freeware may be a free program, but the author does not have to make the source code available. For example, you could call Adobe Flash "Freeware" because its free, but its a closed binary and definitely not open source.
Many MANY thanks for drawing my attention to this software. I tried it thnking it might be good 'for a free program'. In fact, it turns out to be better than MS Publisher which is FAR from free (and is about to be deleted from my hard drive!) Great find!

i'm a teacher
i use it in a class to write a page for a newspaper
it's surely better than publisher for this goal, and the boys learned how to use it enjoing themself and finding a lot of ways to do a layout

ok scribus is great but WHERE ARE THE TEMPLATES? Come one does anyone still release software without templates or some sort of a wizard?

Scribus is designed and marketed to mimick the features and behaviors of a professional layout program such as QuarkXpress or InDesign.
Scribus is not akin to MS-Publisher, nor is MS-Publisher or the like used in the industry.

Ok I'm starting on Scribus, no previous DTP experience.
If I want to print at Kinko's or OfficeMax,what file type is best to output the final work.

print to PDF. If scribus does not export or print to pdf (maybe a plugin required), install something like PrimoPDF (freeware).
