"Chink woman"? Joey Ramone's old girlfriend was Asian. You remember Joey, right? The street by CBGB's has his name on the lampost. It's called Joey Ramone Place. So who's the stupid mofu now?
@nowaiii1 Hey man, I don't remember posting that comment. I think one of my super aggro, emo pissed-off- at everything, cousins did that. I've never been to CBGB so I don't really have an opinion. Looks like it was a cool place though. I wish I could've seen the Ramones or Bad Brains there.
Sunday hardcore matinee! Fuck! Miss the ole skool! Shoutout The Youth Crew, Alleyway Crew, DMS, Sunset Skins, Sicko Crew etc. The Golden age of New York Hard Core!!!!!
oh shit, that was the men's room?? wow, all those times i thought it was the women's room. Fell down, eww, way too many times in that bathroom. Ahh the good old days.
I'm from Southern California, but I took a trip to N.Y. in May of '06 and stopped in to CBGB's. Had a beer and listened to some crappy local band playing. It was pretty empty that night but I'm so glad I got to go inside and just experience it before it went away. So sad. Hopefully we've got some fresh new talent coming down the pike to keep the energy of pure music that CBGB's represented alive and well. I'm sure there is and will be. Goodbye CBGB's. You were awesome and we'll miss you.
when i went to New york on my 8th grade field trip, i got to go there and my carving is on the wall about 2 feet above the toilet.....i feel like a part of history now...i can't believe it's some purse store that's there now!!
Thanks. To this day, can't figure out why I held the camera that way. I once rotated the video 90 degrees using a program, but you know what, the whole place was always a bit askew, so I left the video this way for posterity. Just have to tilt your heads. Or your laptops. Haven't been there since to see what, if anything, is down there. Anyone?
my dad used to hang out there every weekend almost in the 70's and he said all they cooked was some nasty ass chili and he got fucked up one night and actually ate it nasty junky ridden chili
I'm actually coming to New York in January. I'm thinking an extra big breakfast followed by a couple healthy swigs of ipecac followed by a browse around the store. Let's see how Varvatos' oh so edgy clothes look wearing the well-chewed contents of my stomach.
Taxes and rents get raised because people like John Varvatos insist on claiming every single neighbourhood as their own. But what really pisses me off is he's selling "punk" clothing. The only thing worse than a filthy rich asshole is a filthy rich asshole trying to take on the "punk" persona that he helped destroy. And you think they kept the flyers and graffiti out of some homage or respect to the club? LMFAO, they kept them so they could sell more $800 boots.
It's not the clothing store's fault that CBGBs closed down. Blame New York City and their taxes. In fact, the clothing store preserved a lot of CBGB's graffiti and flyers for crying out loud.
How i wish i could have been there in the 80's , i wasnt born yet , though i am absolutely fascinated by this beautiful place ... and i feel that ive been there in another life !!
I used the renovated women's bathroom bunch of times and they were somehwat decent (never caught anything from that toilet! lol). But that was recently, I wasn't even born when the bathrooms were filthy and disgusting.
To be quite honest, CBGB's is just another fucking place for a punk show. Sorry to be so shit about it, but if going to CBGB's is on your "bucket list," your best bet is to kick rocks or at least stay a reasonable distance from real kids.
Robin: Considering it's been closed down for about three years, it would be kinda tough to see a show there or for anyone put it on their bucket list. Sorry to be so shit about it, but at least I know what I'm talking about. You: not so much.
yeah i know. I do graffiti big and its all related - rebellion, being against something, standing for what you believe, getting the word out, graffiti and punk are like distant cousins

I wish I could have seen this piece of history. I got the poster of the toilet in my room. I live in CA and I never got to see it. It's a damn shame. That place should have been a historical landmark.
No matter how drunk you were, you still had to hold yor breath the whole time you were in there...at the time, it was the pits but now I'd put a cot in there just to go back again...
Without a doubt the foulest smelling bathroom i ever experienced...it stunk real bad in the 70's..can only imagine how much worse it got later. I'm surprised the board of health let it go as long as it did.
That wasn't even the original bathroom. That bathroom is the renovation. The original bathroom was a real hell-hole. The Board of Health threatened to close the club until it was renovated.

Well the bathroon doesn't look much better than it did in the 70's. You're only missing overflowing crap and toilet paper. Still though I loved CBGB's and have tons of great memories fron there. Those were the days!!
