I think Eric Dalbey is an AMAZING tenor, he deserves a lot of recognition for that fact. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Tim Waurick, but he seems to outshine Dalbey a bit, when Eric's still disgustingly brilliant.
My boyfriend is getting a group together to try and perform this at a youth festival. I have a lot of doubts about it, but if they pulled it off I think they'd have to win.
@stannasia Of course it doesn't, because Disney didn't have Tim Waurick singing! X-D But seriously, most a cappella groups put their own unique spin on their songs rather than trying to duplicate them (especially barbershop groups because they only have four voices).
WOW how do u scat in a quartet like that and it be so together?? But I don't like the "accompaniment" drowns out the lyrics at times. Would be better without mics I bet.
@LJWDesign You'll get there. It's tough, and I didn't think I could do it. But I was able to get to 30 second posts and I've only been singing for almost 4 years now! :)
I saw VS live in MN. It was the first time I saw a medalist quartet. They opened with When I See an Elephant Fly. I actually let out a laugh on the last chord. For some reason, that was my emotional response. It was like nothing I had ever heard. I have listened to so much online and from the studio from a bunch of quartets, but nothing will compare to that moment.
@agoodfriend99 that my friend is Tim Waurick, I am willing to put my house on the fact he is the best tenor barbershop has seen and will never be beat.
@DKTHOMP93 Be there live and you'll realize that sometimes when a world class quartet locks up, and the hair on the back of your neck starts to tingle, you just start standing and clapping involuntarily...Can't really explain it better than that.....but I know what you mean.
@viesca91 I'm not sure how much you know about barbershop harmony, but there is no "accompaniment" and there is no part called "tenor 2", so I don't really understand your comment.
@XarionGod don't the parts run: bass, baritone, tenor 2, and tenor 1? I'll be honest I don't know TOO much about barbershop harmony and how their stuff runs but that's the usual setup for a regular choir isn't it?..and if you don't have the solo part then you're accompaniment..tenor 2 usually has the solo line...
@viesca91 In barbershop, the parts are bass, baritone, lead, and tenor. It is similar but not identical to a standard/classical setup, but the vocal ranges of each of the parts are different (vs. the operatic scale). Barbershop is all about creating a blend--a single, unison voice--and if any of them backed away from the mic it would detract from the sound of the quartet. Vocal Spectrum is also well known for featuring their baritone and tenor on melody lines, so those two often step forward.
To all those who think Tim is a great "post"-er, there's one guy he has yet to beat and that's Todd Kidder. I personally saw him post a note for 52 seconds on stage. And I later heard from him that he came off stage and said he could've gone longer. Props to Tim and Tony (DeRosa), but Todd is still the king! : )
@Barinumber1 Hmmm, Todd Kidder...tenor of VocalEase when they won the Far Western District Quartet Championship if I'm not mistaken? 52 seconds is most certainly incredible, but Tim has matched that length twice--52 seconds on one of his learning tracks and 52 seconds on the song "Five Foot Two" off his "TimTracks" album. In order to determine who is "king", the two would have to go toe-to-toe, and absolutely no disrespect to Todd, but I do believe Tim would take him out ;)
@Barinumber1 Todd's wearing how many gold medals around his neck? There's much more to it than just posting a note for the longest time....you know that. Kudos to Todd, but.......
@Huntivias Ha, the 30 sec tag is short compared to some that Tim can sing. Listen to the Cruella DeVille recording. the last post is just over 47 seconds.
If these guys went on a singing/talent competition (sing-off, america's got talent, what have you) they would clear the field easy. The world needs to see this level of our hobby. This is a secret way too good to keep!
How I wish people could refrain themselves from applauding on the last chord. It must be pretty hard not to do it though, just watching this video had me jumping on my seat. Amazing
The third album is gonna be outta control!! VS keeps getting better and better. And, still, four of the most humble guys you'll ever meet. A fan for life.
Tim, once again, suffers from pushing his voice. I think he over compensates his highs and loses his grounding foundation. If he only would get some coaching on how to sustain his falsettos, he would be just as good as Saline Dion.
Can't stop watching this video! Vocal Spectrum are incredible! And Aaron Dale is a genius arranger. They're all having so much fun in this video. Brilliant stuff!
@blackiron44 I think that it might be Vocal Spectrum just being god tier lol but it's a canon vixia hf s10 with just the built in stereo mics if you wanted to know. I really love this camera.
