  • @gaoshanlaoshi Straight county is good too. I'm sure what you meant is that Pop Country sucks.

  • Commenters arguing about what genre the Old 97's fit into have missed the point entirely. Shut up and enjoy the music, y'all.

  • I like the sound !!!

  • one of the people in the band is a coach in my football league

  • The Old 97's ROCK!! Rhett Miller, Murray and the boys play some of the best alt-country out there, and phenomenal live -- catch them in concert if you can.

  • I hear the CLASH. Boys you be rockin, I hope to be on the scene with you someday soon.

  • Hey, does anyone know what model the bass player is using?

Looking forward to see these guys at Outside Lands, amongst other bands.

  • I will see them on August 17 with Josh Ritter!

  • I've seen them play live 3 times and each time was 100x better than this performance. I'm really shocked watching this. Please don't judge them based on this performance. They are a great band with several wonderful, fun CDs.

  • Old 97's are a brilliant band!

  • this is actually more rockabilly IMO

  • California born boys! Look em up and enjoy!!!!!! Rhett Miller is a QT!!!!

  • @lonnyangel They're from Texas.

  • they sounds so horrible live.

  • Oh shoo. Texas music. I've bought this damn album so many times... And I hate country music. If there could be a genre of music called "Texas Music" like they have "rock" or "pop" or [shudder] "pop country" then the world would be a better, more intelligent, most excellently satisfied place.

  • okay. seriously. the "nerdy guitar player" is the bass player. FOUR STRINGS! look closely. its a little bit annoying. i dont want to be "that guy", but its just a little ridiculous. thank you for your time.

  • 1. Old 97s have a lot more in common with the Cramps or the Clash than with anything country.

    2. People hear the term "alt-country" and all they hear is "country." The phrase "alt-country" was first use in a review of an Old 97s record! They may not have invented the genre, but the name of the genre was invented because of them.

    3. Gram Parsons. God bless him. But comparing him and the Old 97s is apples and oil. The Old 97's rock hard.

  • Wait, what? Did we just get a Parsons lecture? Honey, @luxvoyager1111, the 97s aren't trying to be Gram. They write just as good a song - better, even - and there IS a country pop world beyond if you give it a shot.

  • Guitar looks like a young Stephen King

  • Murry looks like one of the Johns from TMBG here.

  • @orcoastgal Murry looks like Stephen King! :D

  • with no intention to hate on these guys, i will say that gram parsons was 100,000,000,000,000x the songwriter these dudes are....i know that might not be what was meant by the comparison. but i love gram's songwriting so much that i felt compelled to comment, because to me it's something pretty special and rare. anyways, i'm done now...carry on!

  • @luxvoyager1111 TIme bomb isn't exactly their deepest song, it's just a high-energy song that they close every concer with

  • This is what Gram Parsons would've been doing if he was born 30 years later.....

  • @MontageManSubsPlz Nah bro they are country.

  • @ZombieBoyGrubbs This is way too good to be country!

  • this is not country

  • This isnt country!

  • Its so bloody hell COOL.

  • Y'allternative....Straight out of Dallas, TX.

  • Stars fans

    boooooo

  • 0:05 LOOK I FOUND WALDO!!!

  • Incredibly, the singer is the biggest geed in the band!

  • @AB3L1NC0LN that guy is named murray and he is G!

  • This is rooted in cowpunk. Such a great fucking song.

  • @cubbies4e Hellz yeah! Cowpunk!

  • The Old 97s are not country. That nerdy looking guy is the bassist, not the guitar player.

  • this is probably the best version on youtube.

  • @Blacksheeph26 If you like this (and what's not to like?!) Check out Titus Andronicus "My time outside the womb" on Youtube. Music in the same vein:-)

  • Jesus, this is good!

  • They played for free at Hartwood Acres in June. Big crowd but unfortunately most were there because it was a free show. These guys are awesome, very original, driving, high eneregy live band.

  • This is wonderful, thank you so much for posting it!

  • these guys are playing for free in ROchester, NY on June 17 with Cracker at Party in the Park

  • "having her on my brain is like getting hit by a train..." cant wait to see them in pgh this summer

  • Woah, where did they play in Pittsburgh?

  • He was even cool when he was Zeth!

  • This is country? If so, this is the best country I've ever heard. And that guitarist looks so nerdy.

  • did you mean bassist?

  • I sure did.

  • don't diss Murry, man

  • Not country, generally called "alt-country" which is a great genre. Straight country sucks though.

  • If by straight country you mean the shitty country pop that's on the radio, yes.

  • @SteelersFreak108

You know this song is like, 10 years old, right?

  • @SteelersFreak108

Dude, this is NEVER on the radio. Hardly anyone has really heard this band, from what I know anyways.

  • @SavageAlcoholic wasn't talking about old 97's. someone said that straight country sucked, and i was asking if they meant the stuff thats on the radio.

  • @gaoshanlaoshi I have always heard it called Texas Rockabilly

  • @gaoshanlaoshi

shut up u yankee cunt..you dont know shit about music. country is a fine genre, its the most genuine type of music out there

  • @0123zaq0123 It all depends on what he's defining "Country" as. Artists like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson. That's straight country, and it's good. Toby Keith, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, or any of that other shit is "Crossover Country," and it's awful. There's absolutely nothing genuine about it.

  • @0123zaq0123. A little harsh, dude. How about some tact? If you know what that means even.

  • @gaoshanlaoshi

haha dont insult my intelligence. im smarter than you. i was kinda kidding.

  • @0123zaq0123 I've found that people who say "im smarter than you" usually aren't. Even when they DO capitalize and use punctuation. Don't insult your intelligence? You needn't worry about that. I do not have the time for an undertaking of such magnitude.

  • @gaoshanlaoshi How many people have written "im smarter than you" and how do you know that they actually aren't? I wanna see some data from your research...sorry i dont use correct grammar on my youtube comments..i must be an idiot? im glad youre so high and mighty that you dont have time for peasants like myself. go on and do the world wondrous things

  • @AB3L1NC0LN i wouldnt really call it country but its good anyways

  • Comment removed

  • @AB3L1NC0LN thats a bass

  • sure is Big Rock Ending around here

also this song is fucking choice

  • this should be a good song for RB2 drummers

  • it bet it'll be nightmare tier

  • Sounds like it'll be a lot like Sin Wagon on drums.
