@Brandt761 I just got that connection myself! lol I think he'd rather be fighting a major battle than to have to deal with this kind of social event. :) I don't think the Dutchess would care how he cuts it. She'd probably eat it with her fingers! lol Probably start a fashion. I've never really understood how the English felt about their nobility until watching this series and Sharpes. Interesting. Songs
The Dutchess is a man's woman. Notice how the woman sitting next to Pellew looks at her. If she'd not been a nobel these women would have torn her apart./ What does Pellew mean when he says (and I'm not going to spell this correctly), "and finding nothing but pilchards?"Pilchards? Either I can't hear him right or I just don't know the word. Anyone? / From the beginning I didn't like Hunter but he was made for that. Whoever cast the man deserves kudos. / Pellew must be drunk to talk like this.
Those stuffy formal dinners with titled people personally i wouldn't have enjoyed them either then or today(epsecially today lol) although having people like the Duchess present helps things considerably
i was joking 2 years ago get over it pal, besides every comment on youtube is either a joke or an insult so don"t take em seriously for your own mental health
@RFTC69 Too true RFTC. I'm trying to get it into my head. It's just a different world with tons of cussing children who lie about their ages and people who pretend to be something they aren't. Not all. I'm learning to block people. Perfect person that I am. ha // Mr. B. is the captain's friend and Mr. Hunter is a decent man around him. Men and their jokes! "Rock monkey!" HA. Horatio's asked because he's going to take the Grace home so it doesn't bother Mr. B./Her glugging wine is yucky
@MajBlood I can't remember exactly when I noticed it, but he was impressed almost from the beginning of knowing Horatio. Certainly he has a father's pride. I've never gotten into the history of these men. I will do. But what I can appreciate is that he's a decent man and that fits Horratio's need of a mentor. He was lucky to find such an example. And this actor is excellent at showing how proud he is of Horatio. He doesn't have to say anything. We see it. Impressive artists. :) Songs
A little piece of ironic trivia: The actress who plays the Duchess played Guinevere in the movie Excalibur. Ioan played Lancelot in King Arthur. Hmmmm. :)
He has so girl-y legs he has to cheat! Haha, I saw a interview with Ioan Gruffudd for King Arthur. Lancelot (his character) were supposed to wear a kilt, like the others in the cast. But he couldn't because he had so girl-y legs, so he got leather pants..
@mrgeorgeallison It was the peak of the Empire, mate... Scotland didn't get much love back then, nor Wales, I reckon. No doubt the English of the time fancied the whole of Great Britain as essentially "England". I'd take it more as hubris than ignorance, really.
@RFTC69 What a compliment. I know I'm dramatic but do you really think a lady would appreciate your lust, more than love? Do you think women love men who think count like that? Older/younger, many are appealing. You're being light and I'm taking it far more seriously than you meant, Am I wrong in thinking that some men think the more women they have, the more of winners they are? Why? Who'd want a man who is that shallow? I wouldn't trust him to be a father of children.
@JRTerrier14 Hadn't thought about it like that JRT but you're right. I just can't think like a man so thanks. Just by the by, would a man think she's cute to be glugging wine like this? :) Songs
@Songsmirth, it's not hard to think like a man. "Sex. Food. Sleep. Football." is basically it.
Glugging wine? I don't think anyone would find it "cute" really. Odd? Yes. High class women are supposed to be classy. Downing wine like that isn't. lol.
@JRTerrier14 lolol and ha. You forgot work. / I think this woman drinks wine like this just for fun. She knows better but she is playing a part of a Dutchess who evidently doesn't care about what she should have as stately manners. She gets a kick out of playing the crude woman because she knows nobody will correct her. Not royalty. :) Songs

This particular duchess was apparently a commoner who was courted by a royal and known for her brash humor and manners.
RLviddy 3 years ago 12
Her husband was a duke, not royalty. She's a duchess by marriage, not birth, and clearly meant not to be "to the manor born."
