we never heard of ,..... THE 1&ONLY.....Mr ADRIAN BELEW
I live in Portland, Oregon. A few months ago I had a chance to see Adrian Belew perform live at the Alladin Theatre.. Adrian Belew played for years with King Crimson, another of my all time favorite bands. Adrian simply stunned the crowd, he is that good. The Trio is rounded out by the very competent Julie Slick and her brother Eric, both alumni of the Paul Green School of Rock. Portland is a city which celebrates music and musicians. compulsiontowrite.blogspot.com to find out more. Thanks.
i love the way adrian looks so happy as he hits notes he originally belted out twenty years prior to this...this is a very human performance of what is (let's face it) almost superhuman math rock.
hope he knows that younger generations are busy delving into his back catalogue.
Wow..... really? The voice is in no way flat. I was at this show. Your critique is poor. This is a masterful song. If it's limited, why don't you put up your own video of you playing it? It's far from amateur. And, as for the volume, it was pretty fucking loud in The Magic Bag that night. Adrian is a master of the guitar, and one of the best of all time. Perhaps you are not familair with his work. Check it out.

As to who rocks, that's a matter of opinion!! Most of the best guitarists these days (at least the ones who are still alive) are British!! Let's go for Eric Clapton; Jeff Beck; David Gilmour; Steve Winwood; etc etc. Yes, there are some good American ones left: Steve Vie; BB King; Eric Johnson-------- but the best, who can still fill Madison Square Garden are still Brit's and they're still the best- the problem is that the Yanks' don't want to admit it!!!
Who can fill Madison Square Garden isn't a measure of who's the best; it's more a measure of who's popular. And, those are far from the same thing. You said that who rocks is a matter of opinion!! But, yeah, Adrian rocks, and that is a fact!
i guess if he based the song around 13 or 14 riffs that would be so much better! if only he thought of that... maybe he'll read this and go back to the drawing board. the vibe here is so in your face i cant see that you cant see it!
Hi funkster, I never heard this guy 20-30 years ago so I can only comment on what I hear now! It IS good that he gives other musicians a chance to work with him and I hope they go onto bigger and better things!
Now THAT'S a review. Anyway, I'll admit it's a bit of a raw rendition considering the fact it's actually a King Crimson song...not to mention Belew's not gonna have that silky smooth voice he had 20-30 years ago either. (check out an earlier Crimson version of this song... amazing) But I think this lineup with two very young and talented musicians add a nice twist. Great performance and sound quality? Not quite, but I wouldn't call it amateur either. Just my take. Thanks for being honest Strat.
i think its great an accomplished guy like Adrian gave these young people a break in his band... I think they are brother and sister.... and he found them at one of the schools like Berkley or something.....
actually, they were graduates of the Paul Green School of Rock. Adrian was a "Guest Professor" for the All-Stars and he really liked they're playing so he put them in his band i believe. really cool story!
HAHAAHH! This is sick. He looks blissed out to the max. Reminds me of baby snakes! and yeah the crowd should have left it to the professional, though it would have been cool if they did the call and response with more gusto and confidence, Not many Crimson fans? perhaps?
I always loved this tune, and Adrian is a wonderful performer/singer/writer.
If you would not mind taking a listen to my version of this tune, feel free to take a few minutes to do so, it was certainly done in respect - and as a fan.
For the people who said that adrian belew and robert fripp are not writing nor have written, forgive me but someone who says that is a total IGNORANT, or maybe you heard everything they had done....not

This guy has technical prowess, but ..., the music is so fucking dull and boring it is unbearable. I agree with mvkane that Belew and Fripp are far overated. Their music is consistently overwritten and never touches that knee pumping, or spirit touching level, except according to their cult-like followers. They're just technicians, not really great artists. They should enjoy a life as studio musicians, and give up on the wasteful attempts to be interesting artists.
Not in the r&r hall of fame..I guess that's why they call it fame and not talent.

so, your criteria for what rocks is A) You have to be alive and B) British. If I had to speculate your age, I would guess 16.

True, but don't most critics give a valid reason why they might object to a particular song or performance?
At least you believe in God, so props to you mate. ;)

Tuneless drivel?? You must be a music critic.
Truly sad!!
funkster007 2 years ago 2
Tuneless drivel. I've heard amateurs produce a lot better!! This is very much a case of the hype creating the man; not the man creating the hype!!!
Truly boring!!

once you get a complicated part locked into your hands, you can just sort of put the riff on autopilot and sing along.
i'm not sure how this works with the brain and memory, but it works for me.
