I'll be visiting CERN in a few days on a school trip. Finding out that they've just discovered evidence that there maybe a speed faster than that of light makes my level of excitement jump a few levels. I went from about a 1s to a 5f.
yeah ok i agree to some developments but you can compare the revolution of internet, cars , or biotech to CERN. some development have in there way the evolution of the world some may just have nothing. i don't say no to CERN i like the idea and i wish but i also like the reality...

I am a student nurse and graduating this April of 2010. I am seeking for job after the board exam. I am open to learn about physics and i love to gain more knowledge in science.
Of course also non physicist work at CERN, mainly technicians and engineers and some admin staff.
However there are only about 2500 science and science related (technicians and engineersa) employed at CERN, so the Creme de la Creme. Another ca. 10000 scientists work at Unis and Labs around the world on the data gained from CERN experiments and thus bringing the whole process forwards.

Can i work in CERN even though im not a physicist?
I am a student nurse and graduating this April of 2010. I am seeking for job after the board exam. I am open to learn about physics and i love to gain more knowledge in science.

Of course also non physicist work at CERN, mainly technicians and engineers and some admin staff.
However there are only about 2500 science and science related (technicians and engineersa) employed at CERN, so the Creme de la Creme. Another ca. 10000 scientists work at Unis and Labs around the world on the data gained from CERN experiments and thus bringing the whole process forwards.

No shit, thats true for everything. But look at the history of science out of all of the ways of thinking, science has always met a challenge and looked straight ahead to the next one. It has done this many millions of times, perhaps eventually we will hit a limit of what we can know scientifically but if you look at science current track record there is no reason to think it will stop anytime soon.

Ones you start to observe and ask the questions about the universe then if you haven´t done it before you probably open your mind and revalue the value of life. Didn´t Stephen Hawking said that some of the particles from space have higher energy tha those in the LHC? And when they collide with the particels in the atmoshere the energy is greater than in the LHC? He also said that the black holes that many people are scared of would be smaller in the LHC than those who are created in the collision between space particels and the atmosphere. Didn´t he?

Why are people giving this 5 thumbs down? Do you really take things "as stated"? Yes, we are still "smashing rocks together". We have FAR greater knowledge than we are given. Yet, we are given an Ipod and a mobile phone that gets "upgraded" every year and we think this is staggering advancement. People, wake up!
November 30-th, according to plan for the Large Hadron Collider, collision of protons with energies 0.45 TeV will be implemented, 14 December - collision with 3.5 TeV. If the magnetic collapse starts, it will be impossible to stop it. It will end with ejection of the Earths shell into space.
I give the probability of about 10% that magnetic collapse will start at 0.45 TeV; 50% at 3.5 TeV.
Compare black hole and magnetic:
GMm / r = mc^ 2 / 2;
pB = mc ^ 2.

Magnetic hole works as laser. Laser creates the same photons, which are bosons with zero mass energy. Because of zero mass, photons fly away from laser with the speed of light. Magnetic trap creates x-bosons, which have non-zero rest mass. These bosons do not fly away but becomes the constituent part of magnetic hole. The bigger the number n the bigger the rate of magnetic collapse of ordinary matter into magnetic hole. LHC will start mid-November...
