  • Yep about 30 I have not seen this....

  • BC in animated form...a treat in itself.

  • SO glad you posted this!! I used to LOVE this as a child. It's been soooo long since I have seen this! Thanks for the fond memories that you brought back :)

  • Poor B.C.

  • Happy Holidays!!!!

  • Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

  • Can you name all the characters B.C.?

  • Good God. I barely remember getting a good laugh when I first saw this on NBC. Thanks for sharing

  • @alonenjersey So this first aired on NBC in 1973?

  • @67nairb I can't be certain about the year. If the year is correct, I was nine at the time.

  • @alonenjersey I was six back in 1973 and never saw saw this cartoon in the 1970s. Strange, I was old enough to remember seeing virtually every animated holiday special on tv as a kid. I first saw B.C. THE FIRST THANKSGIVING on HBO in 1982, but only in parts. That was during HBO's better days.

  • Huh, the comedy of the those old shows is really...quite different

  • @Kibate There's more pantomime in it than actual talking.

  • I saw it in HBO in 1982.

  • NIEEECE I I wanted to show this to my kids cause I remembered my mom showing putting it in VCR every Thanksgiving, it wasn't on Netflix for some reason thanks for the upload ! ! : - )

  • GRRRRRRRRRROGGGGGG!!!!!!!

  • I remeber in 1981 When the show it on HBO! I know this must be the first and only cartoon. Funny!

  • What is so peculiar is that when I first heard of this being aired on TV, back in 1989, it was at 11:00 p.m.

I begged my mom to let me watch it, as I was 15, but she said "No. If it is being aired that late at night, it must have some mature content."

Can ya' believe that mess?! This is a cartoon by a Christian man that's read in the papers everyday!

  • Is that Stan Frieberg?

  • @bsabruzzo Close--it's Daws Butler. He was on several of Stan Freberg's records.

  • 8:09....*ZANG*

  • i remember the bc comic strips. seems like i had a bc book when i was a kid. its cool seeing these old cartoons.

  • BEST EVER. Used to watch this a ton as a kid, had it recorded from TV.

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • 5:52 - Confucius say: Never mess around with a turtle's tail!

  • Man, I haven't seen this in about thirty years! Thank you very much for posting!

  • Ditto here! Last time I saw this was in '73!

  • I think I saw it one other time since then. I wish they would play this more.

  • I wonder if anyone remembers cartoons like the Groovy Ghoulies, Roman Holidays, Super President, and Heckle and Jeckle?

  • Groovy Ghoulies? Shake, Rattle & Roll?

  • @kimberlyKfnOphiEAGLE I remember seeing GROOVY GHOULIES, ROMAN HOILDAYS, and HECKLE & JECKLE. But I've never seen or remember SUPER PRESIDENT. Heard of it but never saw it. SUPER PRESIDENT first aired on Saturday morings in 1967 (that was the year I was born) and was Produced by DePattie-Freling Enterprises. Friz Freling of Looney Tunes fame said SUPER PRESIDENT was the worst cartoon his company churned out.

  • @67nairb The series was about the President of the United States James Norcross who was the nation's chief executive by day and super hero by night. He fought against the forces of evil, corruption, injustice, etc. and bullets bounced off of him. Now you realize that this cartoon was produced just four years after the JFK assassination. The cartoon was very unconvincing; a POTUS does not have super powers. He maybe the most powerful man in the world, but he's no less human than we.

  • I believe that when NBC showed this special, the Peacock was incorporated into the animation(?)

  • @kimberlyKfnOphiEAGLE Don't think I'm criticized I don't believe the PEACOCK was reintroduced as the NBC network's logo until 1979 and has been the symbol eversince for over three consecutive decades.

  • @67nairb I Get It

  • @cstoczyn NBC retired the Peacock logo in 1975 I think and replaced it with the red blue N logo which the staff at NBC were not happy with.

  • As you can imagine, Hart was so important in my life :)

Hi, I'm an Apteryx a wingless bird with hairy feathers.

  • Obviously, some of the kids on this page (yeah I'm talking to you "jetblack21" & sygo7g) aren't children of the 70's. If you were, then you would know & appreciate the art of the comic strip "B.C." Since you don't, it is better for you guys to go back to cartoons that you can relate to, like "Pokemon", "Digimon" & any other Japanese animated video/trading card influenced game show that has the suffix of "mon" on the end. Please just leave & let every1 else enjoy it. Thank you.

  • I wonder what's going to be considered 'classic animation', say, 30 years from now? I dread that what's the 'thing' now is going to be it!

  • I know, right?

  • @robynsegg: If any1 can't deal w/ what Kim & I have said then tough tit.

  • @robynsegg I was a child of the 70s and don't remember seeing this at all until the 80s.

  • @67nairb: But @ least u saw it... some, 30-some-odd years ago, am I right?

  • @robynsegg Right.

  • @robynsegg Yes

  • @cstoczyn: Okay, then.

  • @robynsegg Thanks

  • GROGGGGGGGGGGG!!!

  • Yay B.C.! I've been looking for this. I loved it when I was little. Thank you for posting.

  • I am trying to find this on DVD.

  • Just told a friend about it so I looked it up hear and thats all she wrote.

  • This is such a classic. I grew up watching this and still love it. Thanks for posting and God Bless!

  • I didn't get 9:13-9:20 =S

  • @lilyfig The "joke" is the compounding of little noises that add up to something completely intolerable. Slurp, lap, splash, slosh. A far better example is in Walt Disney's Pinocchio when Jiminy Cricket is in the toy shop trying to sleep. The tiny tickings and tockings of the clocks all add up to a solid wall of noise. There as here, the one trying to rest lets out a monumental shout that stops the whole show.

  • @zuiderzee98 Can you name all the characters in B.C. comics?

  • @67nairb I know you weren't talking to me, but: Wiley, B.C. Peter, Thor, Curls, Clumsy Carp, Cute Chick, Fat Broad, Grog, John (the turtle), Bird, Anteater, Jake & Maude (ants) Harv (another ant) Shirley (ANOTHER ant) Bruce (worm). How's that?

  • @dharmaseed Pretty good.

  • @dharmaseed All the characters from the B.C. comic strip did not appear in this Thanksgiving special. Right?

  • @67nairb Excuse me. I meant to say not all of the characters from the B.C. comic strip appeared in this Thansgiving special. Right?

  • @67nairb Right

  • @67nairb Well, just the main ones, lol. The other characters after Grog were just incidental characters that appeared in the strip over the years.

  • @dharmaseed Thanks for the info. Does B.C. still appear in the comic strips every Sunday since the death of Johnny Hart in 2007? I remember always seeing and reading it in the Sunday Star Ledger; I'm from New Jersey.

  • @67nairb About that I have no idea, I stopped reading B.C. a long time ago in the papers. It has been known to happen, though. They could be running classic strips in the papers, a la Peanuts.

  • @dharmaseed Same here. I stopped reading comic strips and the funnys when I was about 12. But I've never outgrown my love of animated cartoons. Infact, the older I get the more I love cartoons which is quite ironic since the comics are more for adults and cartoons are more for kids. Not the other way around.

  • @67nairb I Understand

  • @cstoczyn Thanks for understanding.

  • @dharmaseed Long Live The Peanuts!!!!

  • @67nairb I'm From NY = New York

  • @cstoczyn God for you.

  • @cstoczyn I mean good for you.

  • @dharmaseed O I C

  • Always loved the music on this show.

  • I have this on tape...I watch this every Thanksgiving!!!

  • does any one knows where can i get all the colection on dvd? reply me back or email me at grumpy92105 @ hotmail. com

  • Amazon has BC Thankgiving and Christmas!!!

  • This is a favorite of mine, I saw this the year it was on TV. I found the Laser Disk version on Ebay of the First Thanksgiving and Christmas special. I transfered them on VHS and then to DVD. I watch them every year! I also own almost all of the BC comic books. Big fan, glad Johnny's grandson is carring on the drawing of the comic strip.

  • Thank you for loading these up! I haven't seen them in years and they won't ever show them.

  • A classic! NOTE: In the original opening credits B C approaches the letters NBC "Which was the network who first carried the special) walks up to the "N", & smashes the "N" to pieces reveling the letters B C, hence the title "B.C. The First Thanksgiving.

  • awesome! Now if i could just find the Christmas one.......

  • @pianoman1964 Me 2

  • I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast; never again the next year later. Is this on DVD now?

  • This web site never ceases to amaze me!

I truly believed that I was the last person on earth to ever even THINK of this TV sepcial!

Thanks for the posting! This show was a cracker! Didn't only air once?

  • It did once on NBC. Due to its low Nielsen rating it was never aired again. I'm hoping if if it is now on DVD.

  • They use to play this in the 80's on channel 57 in Philly every year...I had my mom tape it when I was a kid...Some of it was edited to make it 30 minutes with commercials!!!...This looks like the original unedited version!!!

  • CUTE CHICK IS WELL JUST SOO CUTE! LOL

  • i soooo love GROG!!!!!!!

  • Yay!!!!

  • THANK YOU SOOO SOSOS MUCH! My parents recorded this on tape for me in 87 (the only reason why i know this is because its equipped with old commercials and all) and I can quote it and still do to this day so THANK YOU!!! :D
