no, Heroscape has been discontinued by Wotc. They discontinued it because they weren't making enough money on it and that they wanted to pump all their resources into D&D and Magic the Gathering. It was (still is) my favorate game too.

Cosmic Encounter is chaotic, but this quality allows for incredible replay value. Where's the skill then? Since all players get one major alien power randomly at the start of the game, the trick is to quickly spot how the interactions of these powers will play out. Once you have that down, you'll know when and who you should ally with to put the odds of winning in your favor. It gets more complicated because additional abilities from cards weigh in, forcing you to adjust your strategy.

I've watched your videos for two years now, and I just now, finally, got Cosmic Encounter... I can't imagine why I waited so long! You're right, in that it is a very polarizing game. I happen to love it quite a bit even after only a first game, but many in our group seem to dislike its fluidity as you've said. Still, I'm sure they can be convinced. :) Thanks again for everything you do.

For me it's Loaded Questions.. but only because my friends and I use each question as an excuse to come up with the funniest statements, insults, or jokes we can think of. It's a good time of bonding. Quelf is a close second but depends on the crowd. Some people have trouble getting really into it. I'm going to have to go check out Heroscape and Cosmic Encounter now..

Heroscape is one of the most underrated game of all time. I'm Warhammer and 40K player and i really think that heroscape can hold it's own against them. in fact, in ways it's better than 40K and warhammer fantasy when it comes to value, simplicity, and the fact that you play immediately straight out of the box.

Anyway, it's good that one of the most radical AND important game designs in hobby history is here for a pop-treatment - more people should know and respect such vital pieces of art -and games are art for sure- like Cosmic Encounter.

Without them - well, games like Magic: The Gathering and Bang! or even Puerto Rico would hardly be the same, or at all.

Wow, I couldn't agree more with Cosmic Encounter ! I only discovered this game in may this year (yes shame on me), but I'm addicted to it ever since. It's the game with the most plays since I started logging (which was when I played CEr for the first time). The interaction between all those aliens is the best thing that can ever happen to a boardgame ! Some games can get so absurd (like all players ending up with 2 ships left), it's all so great !

As to answer your question, my favorite game is Twilight Imperium 3. It captures the feel of a Civilization game but in space and in the future and has all the things that Cosmic Encounter has, but MORE! If only the game didn't take 8ish hours to play... :-/

Oh, and I guess you don't have to worry about resorting your Heroscape figures when new expansions come out... :-P
