If I win the lottery like a powerball size sum of money (like 100 million plus) I swear on the holy bible that I am buying that land and bringing back rocky fucking point. All of IT. The Enterprise, the corkscrew, the YoYo that breaks, the chowder, the salt water pool and the nasty flume. I'm gonna pay extra to make the flume water smell too.... that way kids from RI can once again enjoy what that park meant to their parents and grandparents...
I never went to Rocky Point for fun, but I used to work in the food stands when I was in high school. I remember that my managers were stoned, that we dropped stuff on the floor but served it anyway, and one time we pulled maggots out of the fryolators.
Eight hours of minimum wage a day taught me I never, ever wanted a job like that again.
Manhatten clam chowder, served in the big, aluminum tureen. Clamcakes in a white bowl and watermelon for dessert. My father always insisted we eat first before we even went into the park. You can't get chowdah like that anymore. And its true...the wreckage is sad indeed. But it was great to see the old shore dinner hall. Ahhh...my early 1960's memories. Thanks.
I finger fucked my girlfriend for the first time in the monster ride..What memories., she gave me my first hand job in the monster ride at Lincoln park in dartmouth Mass. =D
@ccg1171 that is quite possibly the funniest shit i've ever seen posted on youtube.... are you talking about the house of horrors??? the haunted house ride? cause i'm sure you weren't the only one.... ahahahahahahaha
I grew up in Brockton MA in the '60s and early '70s and have similar fond memories of Nantasket Beach/Paragon Park in Hull MA. I used to hear ads for Rocky Point on the radio all the time (especially on WPRO-AM, "Salty" Brine's show) and always wanted to go. Both parks were little more than amusement parks at a beach, but they were OUR amusement parks at a beach, and as such, are extremely important to those who went to them.
The Haunted House was rad because I knew the "screams" by heart. I had the sound effects record they played inside of the ride at home. It was Disney's "Thrilling, Chilling Sounds of The Haunted House" It had the screaming lady that became the evil laughing guy, it sounded like this: "ahah, ahah, ahhoooooooo-ah. ahhoooooooo-ooooooo-ooo-waaaaaa-haaaahaaaaahahaha, a hahahahaha, ahahahaha..." I still have the vinyl. You can look it up on youtube. The screams take me right back to the little "hill".
My absolute favorite ride was the Musik Express! I could have stayed on that ride for hours at a time. Figures it must have been a bunch of idiotic kids that did most of the vandalism. Shame on the parents for not watching their kids and where they go!
being from fairhaven, MA-i went to linkoln park more-but every summer we had a rocky point day! drove there and made a day of it-its sad there both gone but at least i have my memorys! and yes i was a child at the time-im 43 now
my uncle made the fiberglass cars for the wild cat coaster rocky point was always a treat with fond memory my favorite ride was the bumper cars we called them floor waxers !
it's a sin and a shame that this park has been closed in my opinion its another example of greed ruining everything it's a shame that i can't take my children to the park that i loved as a child, and that my children can't have the same fun and enjoyment that i had as a child just a shame
I'm 38 and from new jersey..we had a summer cottage right next door to Rocky Point park..there was a path that took us right past the batting cages and through the parking lot..always had those Almacs discout coupons for the ride all day bracelets..oh man..the BEST days of my summer were spent at Rocky Point Park..I even saw Paul and Young and Flock of Seaguls in concert there too..they had a beer garden later also..remember that?? thanks for the video! it kinda breaks my heart though!!
Rocky Point was OK, Lincoln Park in Dartmouth was way better..75 cents everytime you wanted to ride the Cork Screw at Rock Point & that coaster sucked..It was over in 22 seconds..I always thought that was a rippoff..
The sold the park to build condos, but now 15 years later, nothing has been built. Why doesn't someone buy the land and reopen the park. A lot of the buildings are still there, but would need extensive repair. It would be a good investment
I hate how owners sell off something because they screwed themselves over with greed with what they currently own same thing happened with Lincoln Park.
Rocky Point was awesome. I think the last time I went there was right after they unveiled the corkscrew. But the chowda and clamcakes were awesome. I forgot how big the shore dining hall was.
it was that ride with 16 Gondola cars connected to a wheel with an arm that would raise you up in the air and spin you around you can find one at Six Flags under names like Highland Fling Wheelie Orbit and Wagon Wheel only Six Flags I know of that Keeps the name Enterprise is Kentucky Kingdom
I remember that ride was located to the right of the Herschell-Spillman (make) Carousel I have a pic of my sis in front of the Carousel with the enterprise in the background
they're a lot better then this crap decade I'm glad it's alomst over. I miss the days when park admission didn't cost ya an arm and a leg I wish some company would step in restore and open up the park (except six flags)
I am pretty sure it was a combination of insurance companies wanting a lot of money (I will never forget when I saw the YoYo break and people were being dragged on the ground) and kids wanting bigger and better rides.
It has probably been 30 years since I was there. That was a time when you could let your kids run wild in a park and not worry about them.
Someone could restore it, but they can't restore the chowder, clamcakes and watermelon.
The all day bracelets were a piece of twine with small piece of metal in different colors (depending on the day) clamped on it.
The pool was a huge one, maybe even bigger than olympic sized...and it contained saltwater, not freshwater.I remember the skyliner, which was basically a ski lift that gave you a great view of the park.
The music express which was a fast moving track ride with connected cars that went in a hilly oval. It moved forwards and backwards while blasting rock and roll music.
im 32f and hispanic.. i feel priveledged to have spent my youth at this park..it gave me a sense of adventure and helped keep my family bonded in a way that no one i know can understand. if ever i hear someone mention this place right away i'll feel a connection with them....it was and will always be a piece of heavan to me. RIP Rocky Point!!!
batting cages? you must be going way back. I don't recall batting cages, but I'm not doubting you either. I remember they're used to be a pool there, but I never went in it. Too Young.
