Religion vs Spirituality- there is nothing wrong with having a spirituality, it's religion that's the problem. You can believe in a god and not be bat shit insane- you can follow an eastern philosophy and improve the world more than a lot of atheists. Spirituality is just a way to place yourself in the universe and connect with that aspect of our nature that is non-physical. But physical religious doctrine will never be able to explain the non-physical- how people miss that logic is beyond me.
@GoddessVirage Quantum physics scientists are starting to come across results that would indicate that there IS a metaphysical. Spirituality, supposedly, is the next step for mankind. In the next decade it's supposed to increase exponentially. Supposedly...
"Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg, Nobel Prize-winning physicist.
When are Christians going to realize that THEY are the problem with their stigma about being oppressed in history. I mean, Christians were even thrown out of the Jew club and still they side with the Jews. What a bunch of confused little (Gods) children.
I think we can all agree that there will be an "end time" of sorts, but it certainly won't be caused by any "god". I think Mr Camping has pretty much proved that religion is stupid and dangerous.
Well it's a good thing that "Jesus is coming back to rescue the Jews," because otherwise, some manic political party somewhere in Europe might run on an anti-Semitic platform and run mass exterminations. Yup, good to see the ol' religious beliefs are right again.
@LexusFman Yes, because he came to that conclusion through logic and reason, rather than through prejudice and pathetically clinging on to false hopes. You can believe what you want up until it starts negatively affecting other people.
@LexusFman Santa Claus is not real so why do you want to believe in it anyway? Why can't we just all believe what we want? Because It's stupid! You think I want kids to be indoctrinated into this everyday? Hell no!
Let us not be caught in the crossfire of 'armageddon'. (If you talk like the bible does, everything sounds profound! I should add a couple numbers afterwords, like 2:69) Let us stand up for each other. The fair, the compassionate, the right, all of us non-believers - not believers in nothing but believers in each other - who find the strength to be unequal and cast away the shackles of the opressive regime of religion organized or not.
Isnt it funny, that bronze age illiterate goat headers, who thought the Earth was flat and boiled water with dried fecies. Have more of an insight into the workings of the universe than all the discoveries by the smartest men & women in the last 300 years put together.
Open your eyes you stupid Americans......The so called " Osama bin Laden" works for your goverment. I'm sick of these anti-theist propaganda videos. If you really think religion is that dangerous then don't get involved in your own society, because at least 76% of the world population is religious. Just stay at your home, and lock the door on yourself. Stop bitching around....
now i see why i'm an atheist/antitheist. they (theists) think that we're weird? they believe in a talking dead guy. i really hope "god" is fake, because living in a world that is controlled and watched non stop would be stress full. does god have nothing better to do then watch what we do? god is a bully and his followers are too. i hope when i die, i go no where.
I don't like Bill Maher personally, but he's exactly right on this. I used to be an evangelical christian and thought that Jesus was about love and forgiveness. Then one day I opened my church's weekly bulletin and found an editorial that promoted preemptive war. And I was the only person in the church who found a contradiction between that and the Sermon on the Mount.
Religion turns off rational thinking, which is why it always turns to violence in the name of peace.
As I have embraced atheism, I have found increasing value in life and living it. I've learned a lot over the years and have mastered several skills and trades. More than ever and as the years will go by, I want to enjoy them to the fullest extend that I can before I die. What relevance does this have with this video? Even with Pascal's wager, this may be the only experience we all ever have. It would be a shame not to have lived it to its fullest...
What people dont seem to understand, and before reading dont assume im disagreeing, to the contrary, this film is a standout effort and should be shown in schools. But what people fail to understand, is that despite there being college courses and studies done on religion, it does not excuse the idea of religion bringing terror and murder to the world in the name of fictitious idols.
There is no excuse for these behaviors, and as stated, anyone who cannot see this, must either grow up or die.
wow, last night i thought i invented anti-theism. The idea that neither theism, or atheism can be proven correct, but that it doesnt matter. we as a civilization must come to this realization in order to take responsibility for our actions and corresponding reactions. Now i see i am not the first, this gives me hope, rational logical hope.
I'm an anti-theist, most of Religulous was good, but you know that part where he was comparing Jesus with Horus and all these other gods/messiahs in history? Yeah, he was lying. Almost none of the similarities he mentioned were real, they were all created by some crackpot egyptologist who liked to make stuff up. But yeah, the rest of the movie is great ;D
The biggest issue with religion is not the fundamentalists, it's the moderate ones who fill in a survey saying they are Muslim/Christian/whatever. This way wheter you like it or not, you are suporting these fundamentalists.
The moderate religious people are the core problem on this.
I think some forms of religion are natural in evolution of humans, but this video has a very good message. My opinion is that eligion should never promote messages that are hostile to our own existence.
@codafett Atheists are rational people who have examined religion and found no reason to believe in God. Anti-theists are atheists who have decided to take a stand against tyranny and evil.
@universaltrickster Oh, no!. Anti-theism is a stand against theism, not against theists. Many theists are nice people, and I wouldn't want to treat someone differently just because of what they believe, even if I find some beliefs to be silly. Anti-theists are people who think religion does more harm than good, who think certain concepts of God can be disproved, or who think that if God existed it would be a bad thing. I fit all three. Glad you asked, I'd hate to have people think we're bigots.
@universaltrickster YES ! As moderate "good xtains" your philosophies are based on the same book as the tyrants of 2000 years.YOUR FAMILY is the farm system for religious terrorism. Rich evangelicals donate millions to the Zionists who, just like you,SALIVATE at the thought of YOUR fucking Armageddon, and the deaths of my children.YOU ARE EVIL because YOU are part of the problem of EVIL unless YOU become part of the solution of peace. You are a cult which worships death, as evil as islam.
actually, if it weren't for the return of our Lord, MAN would destroy earth...NOT make the earth a better place to live...can't anyone see the iniquities of mankind? Is it that hard to see that men have evil in their hearts? Deception is the only way that men have enslaved other men, not because of a belief in God...Religion btw was said (Biblical) to be bad and only separates us...it has been used as a tool to control, but simply believing in God by faith alone hurts NOONE!!!
did you know good'ol elbert Einstien was Jewish? Isaac Newton was a christian along with wright brothers, MLKj (list goes on) It's also very possible to believe that the intellectual conciousness is God. A theory thats extremeley plausbale simply because it explains the idea of a 'collective conciousness' than'it came into place because it could' Quantum Physics anyone?
cool video, but are you saying all religion is 'bad.? that is crazy. i will not doubt that people have done terrible things in the name of a religion, but it would be unfair to say there hasn't been a single good thing done in the name of it. part of democracy as we know it was founded from some christian denominations(u can ask for details if you'd like.) The ending of the slave trade, which costs England trillions, was motivated by 'religion. many many more examples.
@maxbiteme Dude, religion is bad. Praying wastes people time and gives them false hope, and ends up being counterproductive because people could actually be making a difference. Intelligent Design? Jihad? Both shit ideas - and there are tons more.
The Bible strongly endorses slavery, so it clearly wasn't the religion that said to end it. Christians were essentially the population, so they must've had the idea, but you can't say their faith inspired them. The good person inside them did, though.
@SevenRiderAirForce i'm sorry i will have to disgree on afew accounts. Praying for some people is all they have got. and depending on the way you pray, it can also actually be a healthy service to yourself. praying for some people are sessions in which they remind themselves what they are struggling/trying to achieve. i will not deny ofcourse that in some ways it's obviously stupid, wishing for a Ferrari under the christimas tree) i reccomend listening to a guy called Amit Goswami.
@maxbiteme But what good does false hope give? Is endorsing self-deception really such a good thing? To quote George Bernard Shaw, to say that a religious man is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than to say a drunken man is happier than a sober one. I mean, I can think of very few circumstances where self-deception would be more beneficial than not.
@SevenRiderAirForce yeah i know what your saying but i'd think praying is more helpful for the prayer, and even go so far to say it's a type of meditation in disguise. i'd see it as a way for people to confirm/reflect there goals and hopes are. i would definatley not support someone praying for people to get better, but i would support someone praying while working at a orphanage. i always think of those kids forced into sex slavery put in cages by their own families who would need false hope
@SevenRiderAirForce Well, for one, William Wilbeforce one of the leaders who helped abolish slavery, and also set up a (stop Cruelty to animals' organisation interestingly enough) and he put emphasis on the importance of religion, morality, and education. he claimed his faith inspired him, true or not. I really dislike getting into 'The Bible' but it also 'claimed' that slave and master are equal in the eyes of God' but lets not get into that. my point is Christianity is not just white or black
@maxbiteme Of course many people, if not the vast majority, calling for good change such as that were religious, but it follows nowhere from what is to say, the "original version" of their faiths. But if people chose to change their beliefs for the better, I can only say it is progress.
@2:45 Bill displays the height of arrogance - NOBODY can be sure what happens after death because Bill doesn't know. LOL, so he makes himself the standard for all knowledge. One problem, Bill, your whole belief structure is based on circular reasoning (you start w/ the asumptin that God does not exist and use that to bash ALL religions). Besides that, the Bible, which is 100% prophetically accurate tells us exactly what happens after death, i.e., judgment
@boan000 Are you honestly claiming that someone can know what happens after death?
An assumption is a baseless guess. An educated conclusion is one based on evidence and a lot of research, and is precisely what lead Bill to become an atheist. Since there hasn't been a drop of evidence in the entire history of mankind supporting the existence of a god... well... what's common sense tell YOU?
The bible also tells us Jesus said he'd return in the lifetime of the people in it... that's not 100%.
"Are you honestly claiming that someone can know what happens after death?"
Yes, I am; I was clear in my comment. The Bible tells us precisely what happens when we die (we face judgment).
There is plenty of evidence for God if you are willing to see it. Creation itself testifies of his glory. Then there is the Bible-it's full of prophecy that's been fulfilled. Only an omnipotent, omniscient God could accomplish this-and that's what sets the Bible apart from other religions' sacred texts.
@boan000 Evidence isn't a matter of "willing to see it". No one can NOT see my desk simply because they're "not willing to see it". Things exist or they don't, it's that simple.
Actually creationism as accounted for in the bible has been shown to be wrong in every single way. Have you not heard of the body of science called geology? Or maybe genetics?
Evidence can be interpreted more than one way. The evidence that some scientists say shows the biblical account wrong is held by some scientists as affirming the biblical account.
The major point of contention that causes such division amongst them in their views is catastraphism - whether they see a uniform rate of change, or whether they see the evidence as pointing to a global flood.
I know of a paleontologist who did his graduate work at Harvard who holds to a young earth.
@boan000 That is flat out false. Evidence is evidence, period. Bloody footprints leading from a body are evidence - where they lead is not up for debate - nor is what they are. Name one piece of scientific evidence that affirms the biblical account, please?
Global flood? Are you kidding? See my 30 second video about Noah's flood. There is not enough water on the planet to cover the land, period! A global flood is physically impossible.
Graduate work maybe, certainly not accredited tho.
"if you're talking about BereanBeacon's videos ... this conversation is over"
I am not saying thaqt all of the eidence in those videos proves the biblical account, what I am saying is that it shows my point about there being two distinct paradigms. Each camp has there own understanding of science, and that influences how they interpret the scientific data. Each camp strives to interpret it to support their respective theory.
@boan000 the religious morons try to force science into their ideals, and real scientists look at the evidence and evaluate it and make observations based on that. not try to fit it on a predetermined set of facts that they get from bronze age fairy tale books. big difference. can't even compare the 2.
I hate to burst your bubble, but this too is physically impossible.
Consciousness is in our brains, created by energy and chemical reactions. Even if the energy did something magical after our death, there is no neurocenter to feel or process anything. It's like having electricity to your house but no appliances to utilize it with. Does that make sense? It's really very simple when you actually think about it.. it also helps you appreciate time itself.
"Lastly, regarding life after death:... this too is physically impossible. "
I can understand why'd you desperately want to believe this. If it is true that consciousness = life and it's merely a biological phenomena, then you need not worry about giving an account to God for how you lived your life, or what you did about Jesus Christ who died for your sin.
OTOH, if your philosophy proves wrong, you're in trouble...
My apologies for using Pascal's wager, but it seems appropriate here
@Thrashaero "translation: i know pascal's wager is bogus, but...i'm going to use it anyway.
how is it appropriate if you know it's __?
You didn't consider the context in which I used it. ps said:"re: life after death:..this is physically impossible". In that context, the wager is indeed appropriate b/c ps is simply assuming that physical life is all there is w/ no proof. So, that wager's valid here since its premise is simply to challenge the validity of an assumption.
pt 2 - i.e., to something preceding. So when Jesus said "this generation", he was not referring to the generation which heard him (necessarily), but to the one which witnesses the signs that he had laid out in the preceding 30 verses. The text is Matthew 24 if you'd like to study it.
I know skeptics like to use this passage, but the simple truth is that anybody with a rudimentary knowledge of Greek can destroy that argument easily. Hopefully, you'll look into this w/o biased preconceptions
To say Jesus did not mean the generation of people he was speaking to is absolutely absurd. ALL THREE VERSES are quotes of Jesus PREACHING. You're trying to tell me Jesus was lying to those people because he actually intended those words for YOU? LOL?
Knowledge of GREEK? The modern translations are very accurate as testified by MANY theologians who've been privileged enough to see ALL ancient manuscripts - names I can provide!
Read it for what it SAYS, not for what you NEED it to say.
"Read it for what it SAYS, not for what you NEED it to say"
So basically you're saying that if the English language cannot properly reflect the meaning given by the original Greek words, we should discount the Greek? That is silly. It was written in Greek, to fully understand it, one needs to understand the Greek voice, tense and mood.
Part 1 of my post diidn't appear the first time I tried, so maybe you did not see the full content of what I am saying regarding the Gk case of "this"
"Jesus said he'd return in the lifetime of the people in it..."
No, an honest look at the text of Mt 24:4-34 reveals that Jesus did not say this. When his disciples asked what would be the signs of his return, he listed those signs, and then gave the parable of the fig tree.
Only then did Jesus say "this generation will not pass away..."
The Greek for "this" here is hoútos - a demonstrative pron. that refers to a person or thing before mentioned, i.e., to something preceding: (cont'd)
your telling me that you don't believe in the Big Bang THEORY or the THEORY of evolution? Even though that's exactly what they are THEORIES. Once again, freedom of religion. I worship God and the Trinity and you worship what other men THINK happened all those years ago. Yeah keep calling me stupid. It makes it seem like i'm debating with a 5th grader. I guess that is what I am doing since you clearly don't know SHIT about religion at all. And you never will. Oh well, it ain't my problem
Of course I trust the theory of big bang and evolution. I trust in them because there is ONLY evidence SUPPORTING them. Apparently you're so much smarter than "this 5th grader" that you don't even understand the basic definition of what a theory even is. Cute!
If I knew nothing about religion, I wouldn't whole heartedly welcome any theist of any belief system to debate me, as I always do.
You seem to forget we have logic, reason, evidence and science ITSELF backing us up. What do you have??
@pokerslut530 you know a wise man named St. Thomas Aquinas said there are two ways to read the OLD testament...The literal sense and to interpret on a deeper spiritual level. You fools have obviously been able to wrap your "superior" minds around the latter interpretation method so yeah...get back to me when you get around to that level
@rocknjosh34 Ahhh, so you're one of those "half-christians" who claim to "interpret" and/or completely disregard HALF of the book while holding the OTHER HALF as literal word-for-word "words from god" ? P.S. It's not interpretation--its more like "we know it's so very wrong, but we can't explain it, SO we gladly make grand leaps of irrationality to *make* it work"
If there was a god why would he give you a metaphorical "POEM" that needs to be INTERPRETED in order to get the REAL meaning?
@pokerslut530 You really are a twat aren't you. Or would you rather that I find you and burn you at the stake for being a hypocrisy that is atheism. Maybe that would suit your image of a "full christian". Seriously, you don't know shit about the Bible and you don't know shit about Christianity so why bother fighting it if you don't even have your facts straight
So correct me where I'm wrong. How does someone disregard or merely "INTERPRET" half of the bible and still call themselves a full blown christian? I don't give a fuck what St. Aquinas said. I'm asking you man to man - the bible says its the word of god - you are telling me it is wrong? That is merely for interpretation?
But you still devote your entire life to following it?
Maybe I am a twat for not understanding your hypocrisy.
And burn me at the stake? See what I mean, you lunatic?
@pokerslut530 so obviously your too sensitive to understand what sarcasm is. And according to you all Christians are pedophiles and violent psychopaths so I was just showing you how riduculous your claim sounds when putting it into context. And of course you don't care what St. Thomas Aquinas said because you can't handle the fact that there were some great minds who were followers of the Catholic faith GROW UP and then talk to me
@rocknjosh34 I never claimed anything of the sort. As far as sarcasm is concerned, I rightfully can never tell when/if you crazy people are actually joking or not as sad as that is.
Of course there were great minds that followed it, they had no choice nor an alternative to SAFELY turn to prior to the 16th or 17th century. Duh?
I'm very well grown. I'm not the one who has invisible friends who I try to justify.. might want to take a small dose of your own advice friend.
@pokerslut530 that's EXACTLY what you were claiming don't try to hide behind it now...and as far as growing up is concerned, what's more grown up than standing up for what you believe in, no matter what haters tell you? That seems pretty grown up when compared to following the crowd or insulting other people for their beliefs. As far as i'm concerned freedom of religion still stands so your insults, as a result, do not
@rocknjosh34 There's a big difference between a hater and a skeptic. A hater might clown on you over what type of music you listen to or what type of style you favor. A skeptic will tell you that the psychic you're visiting is a fake, or that you've been duped on a scam and here's why, etc.
I'm not here to insult you - I'm here to get you to think. Sure, we started off on a bad foot, and I apologize for my part in that, but you certainly came at me sideways initially on your wifes page.
@pokerslut530 And Lutheranism arose in the 16th century...anybody could have switched to this EASIER PROTESTANT religion but he didn't...I wonder why...Because he wrote countless works on the Truth of the Church and the Truth of the Bible.
@rocknjosh34 So because it's been considered "acceptable" to merely interpret the bible for the past four centuries (despite what the bible says itself), you still believe for some reason that - assuming god exists - this is how he would want his works to be treated? On what basis?
And somewhat of an off-topic, side-question I've always meant to ask a christian: Why do you capitalize the "T" in truth?
(also to your other comment, freedom of religion != freedom from scrutiny)
@pokerslut530 "On what basis?" IDK maybe sending his Son to Earth to start the New Covenant with the New Laws. Jesus said to keep the commandments but to also follow his own. Times were changing, so the laws will change too. This is why the Old Testament is not taken literally by Christians and Catholics. If you want to debate Old Testament go find a Jew to pick on. "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Light." - Jesus
@rocknjosh34 what good is debating any of these little silly details if you can't fathom what the concept of god really is, and can define it in any objective sense without simultaneously being in the self-defeating process of defining the unknowable and impossible?
think about it. all other arguments are secondary until you can pin down what it is. but don't keep your hopes up that you can, without contradicting yourself somewhere, just an fyi.
Lets translate josh's little rant...... " I have no education and do not know what a scientific theory is, I have anger issues when I feel my kooky belief system is threatened (which is all the time)..... Epic fail from yet another brain damaged bible basher
"Oh, those are only THEORIES! So I don't need to actually read up on them! No need to actually learn the other side of the story! I'll be blissfully ignorant."
You worship an invisible man. I believe a well proven theory outweighs what can only be described as delusion. What hypocrisy. "You worship what other men THINK happened all those years ago."
@anotalreadytakenname "Hypocrite - a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings"
any atheist with a brain stem could conclude that I am not nor have I ever been a Hypocrite. And there's a huge difference between a GUESS and actual first hand accounts of events that happened millenia ago. Historical Fact and a Hypothesis and people call me an idiot don't make me laugh
@rocknjosh34 The fact that it can't be disproven that it wasn't a first-hand account isn't somehow positive evidence for it being true, you knucklehead. There is plenty of crap the babble spews that HAS been thoroughly disproven - caugh - noah's flood!
What about that stuff josh? Is snow and hail made in store houses that god built in the sky too? You're fucking dense.
"come out of the closet" yeah DO TELL Bill. Wow I used to think you were just a douchebag liberal commie bastard but now you've just given me another reason to look down upon you. Oh well, I will pray for you nonetheless.
@rocknjosh34 Pray to Mythra and Zeus while you're at it too, okay? Bill certainly doesn't want to fall victim in his afterlife because you chose the wrong god to pray to.
that's the difference between me and you, I pray to the Creator a Higher Being, you pray to liberal retards like Bill Maher who is trying to destroy freedom of religion in America. Yeah that sounds so much more civilized to me *sarcasm*
Well first off the Bible isn't a science textbook meant to show us how the world works. And the Bible is written by men; what sets them apart is that it is thought to be inspired by God.
And the story of the flood is universal. Hundreds of cultures around the world have a story citing this event; so couldn't a logical explanation be that it actually happened rather than having hundreds of "unconnected" cultures all cite this mythological story.
Scientific assertions the bible makes: - Age of Earth (indirectly) - Earth created before the sun/stars - Sun revolves Earth - Moon is a source of light - Sky is a "glass dome" - Stars are "fixed to this dome" - Earth is flat, hanging on nothing, and supported by pillars - Earth was flooded, tho physically impossible - 20+ other flood impossibilities - Incest as our ancestry - The ages of people claimed to be centuries - Claims giants existed, never found Again, I could go on... explain these?
@khsr277 I don't care what the purpose of the bible is SUPPOSED to be, it is making a hefty list of scientific claims throughout it. My list is barely the tip of the ice berg.
It doesn't matter if all cultures around the world cite the flood, that is only further proof that the bible was written by man and was completely unguided by any supernatural deity. This is why people like myself mock bible believers - they haven't even read their own "sacred" book - apparently...?
@khsr277 But all those flood stories don't date to the same period in history. Besides, if everyone on the Earth was dead except for 7 people, then there would be noone else alive in those other cultures to record the event.
@khsr277 Well, first off. The bible WAS written by men. And the Christian bible as you know it today was written not by men thousands of years ago.but men hundreds of years ago. That took the original book and re-wrote it for their own benefits They are called catholics. The original dead sea scrolls has books written on copper from the original books of the bible And translated into english are not anywhere near our modern. So can you not believe that if they changed one they may change them all
Hey so ive been reading through some of these comments and i saw you say you want to wake up believers with your simple logic. I'm a believer and believe the Gospel of Christianity is 100% true. I'm not here to bash you or say something condemning; i just want to know want your simple logic is?
It's simply logic however is not so simple to put into a 500 char comment. I'll try:
There isn't a single scientific claim made by the bible that actually is true. This proves without a shadow of a doubt the bible itself was written by man and cannot be the work of an all-knowing deity.
Many things have been conclusively proven to be simply physically impossible, i.e. the entire story of noah's flood. Not only is it impossible, but it is a stolen concept from the Sumarians.
I love this movie !!! It shows how pathetic and crazy religion really is. I think ALL religious people shold watch this movie. LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Says the man who thinks because you don't believe in the myth of jesus that you're automatically Hitler.
YouThoughtYouKnew (5 minutes ago)
So just leave before your murderous heart goes out a kills an innocent human being.
And you wonder why people like me are going to see to it that your wicked global cult is stomped the fuck out. And not with violence, we don't need violence, we have common sense and logic on our side.
Have a nice life sir, I can see your ignorance is quite blissful.
What's sick is your NEED to live. Your Atheistic outlook is one of the most embarrassing ways to think and live. Your "religion" has been rejected by most scholars and stems from FEAR of the unknown. Your HATE is what fuels your logic and your FEAR of death makes your arguments trivial and shameful. What an embarrassment to society
My atheist outlook directly equates to utilizing common sense and reason as my sole grounds for determining what is real and what is not. This is in no way shape or form a "religion", it is only a humble state of mind which neither requires hate or strife. If this is embarrassing to you, I send you my deepest sympathy.
Trusting what I see is THERE, knowing what I touch is REAL and being able to prove it all - this is my outlook.
Critical and rational thought is rejected by scholars? Laugh.
Yeah how dare he be concerned about the religious zealots in this country who are anxiously awaiting armageddon...
If you watched this video and couldn't learn anything and could only present an ad-hominem attack on Bill, it really proves everything it says is absolutely fact and that you fuckers deserve no respect whatsoever.
His hostility underlines the importance of his criticism. His point is no more tiptoeing around, or abiding by unwritten social rules that refuse public scrutiny of religion.
Hitler!? Just, wow. Grow up or die as in the ENTIRE SPECIES. If we don't grow up we're going to end up killing ourselves because fundamentalist fucktards WANT armageddon. What exactly did you interpret his message as, a literal call to arms to atheists against all religion???? Are you insane???
The idea that men are nothing but nature has left men vulnerable to the idea of manipulation.
This idea has made Stalin Pol Pot and Mao manipulate mankind.
If you think men are nothing but a result of nature you will be less likely to treat them favorably in comparison to thinking men are created in Gods image with the rights equal to any other.
Your cult has killed over 100 million this past century .
I keep telling you to turn on your video camera so I can add you to the online sideshow where you belong. I leave offerings of parmesan cheese to the spaghetti monster in hopes that he'll guide you to a digital future, yet, no avail. :(
If you keep up your rapid fire lies tho, I will have to strongly consider blocking you :( You know damn well Stalin Pol Pot AND Mao were motivated by communism, not ATHEISM. I'm 95% sure you have read my conversations about this very topic on Beacons crap.
The tenants and the entire social structure around communism centers around 100% societal equality. The reason most communist regimes were anti-religion was because leaders of the church were viewed as holding power - which clearly contradicts the point of communism itself.
I've *personally* ran laps around your brain at least 10 times - and don't forget to count this occasion too. I'm not going to block you for disagreeing - but for flat out lying. This isn't a creationist channel buddy.
Ran outta characters, but I just have to respond to your last line:
What about 2-3 days ago when I commented about how snow and hail were nothing supernatural and we know exactly how and why it happens even though the bible claims "god makes it and keeps it in store houses". Then you replied to me "thats a lie, we don't understand gravity so we can't understand snow and hail" ...
hahahahahahahahahahahah making snow does NOT require gravity! In fact if it weren't for some dust of the particles extremely light weight that get up into the clouds and allow the water to have surface area to form ice, we wouldn't HAVE snow or hail. So you're just plain dumb and wrong in every way. This is freaking elementary school science man. Were you home schooled? :(
Come on man you're making a play on a pun. You're not actually proving how smart you are, I promise. In fact, it has the exact opposite effect.
Intelligent design in the military or in respects to submarines is in no way shape or form related to "an intelligent creator". It made me chuckle the first time but it honestly wasn't that funny. Mostly because I'm not sure if you actually believe what you're saying or not... as sad as that is.
No, the actual act of creating snow requires no gravity. Explain to me how it does otherwise. Please don't be predictably stupid and say something like "well the atmosphere wouldn't be here without gravity" or "it'd just stay in the clouds otherwise!" Semantic games are not entertaining.
What the hell does that prove? It's an argument. Intelligent design is an argument, but it certainly doesn't somehow legitimize it because that's what it is. I am beginning to wonder if you're just deliberately being annoying :\
You don't have to believe that something is a creation of a divine being to feel compassion for it. I don't. I have absolutely no need at all to believe in a god/gods to have compassion for anything.
If that's what it takes for YOU to feel compassion for something, then I think that's pretty sad.
Man I feel incomplete that I have not seen it. I agree 100% with Bill. It is all to likely the continued god wars has only one conclusion. Atomic Warfare. Grown up or Die. It is all too real.

GoddessVirage 5 months ago

I don't like Bill Maher personally, but he's exactly right on this. I used to be an evangelical christian and thought that Jesus was about love and forgiveness. Then one day I opened my church's weekly bulletin and found an editorial that promoted preemptive war. And I was the only person in the church who found a contradiction between that and the Sermon on the Mount.
Religion turns off rational thinking, which is why it always turns to violence in the name of peace.

There is no excuse for these behaviors, and as stated, anyone who cannot see this, must either grow up or die.

cool video, but are you saying all religion is 'bad.? that is crazy. i will not doubt that people have done terrible things in the name of a religion, but it would be unfair to say there hasn't been a single good thing done in the name of it. part of democracy as we know it was founded from some christian denominations(u can ask for details if you'd like.) The ending of the slave trade, which costs England trillions, was motivated by 'religion. many many more examples.
maxbiteme 1 year ago
@maxbiteme Dude, religion is bad. Praying wastes people time and gives them false hope, and ends up being counterproductive because people could actually be making a difference. Intelligent Design? Jihad? Both shit ideas - and there are tons more.
The Bible strongly endorses slavery, so it clearly wasn't the religion that said to end it. Christians were essentially the population, so they must've had the idea, but you can't say their faith inspired them. The good person inside them did, though.
SevenRiderAirForce 1 year ago
@SevenRiderAirForce i'm sorry i will have to disgree on afew accounts. Praying for some people is all they have got. and depending on the way you pray, it can also actually be a healthy service to yourself. praying for some people are sessions in which they remind themselves what they are struggling/trying to achieve. i will not deny ofcourse that in some ways it's obviously stupid, wishing for a Ferrari under the christimas tree) i reccomend listening to a guy called Amit Goswami.
maxbiteme 1 year ago
@maxbiteme But what good does false hope give? Is endorsing self-deception really such a good thing? To quote George Bernard Shaw, to say that a religious man is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than to say a drunken man is happier than a sober one. I mean, I can think of very few circumstances where self-deception would be more beneficial than not.
SevenRiderAirForce 1 year ago
@SevenRiderAirForce yeah i know what your saying but i'd think praying is more helpful for the prayer, and even go so far to say it's a type of meditation in disguise. i'd see it as a way for people to confirm/reflect there goals and hopes are. i would definatley not support someone praying for people to get better, but i would support someone praying while working at a orphanage. i always think of those kids forced into sex slavery put in cages by their own families who would need false hope
maxbiteme 1 year ago
@SevenRiderAirForce Well, for one, William Wilbeforce one of the leaders who helped abolish slavery, and also set up a (stop Cruelty to animals' organisation interestingly enough) and he put emphasis on the importance of religion, morality, and education. he claimed his faith inspired him, true or not. I really dislike getting into 'The Bible' but it also 'claimed' that slave and master are equal in the eyes of God' but lets not get into that. my point is Christianity is not just white or black
maxbiteme 1 year ago

Besides that, the Bible, which is 100% prophetically accurate tells us exactly what happens after death, i.e., judgment
boan000 1 year ago
@boan000 Are you honestly claiming that someone can know what happens after death?
An assumption is a baseless guess. An educated conclusion is one based on evidence and a lot of research, and is precisely what lead Bill to become an atheist. Since there hasn't been a drop of evidence in the entire history of mankind supporting the existence of a god... well... what's common sense tell YOU?
The bible also tells us Jesus said he'd return in the lifetime of the people in it... that's not 100%.
pokerslut530 1 year ago
"Are you honestly claiming that someone can know what happens after death?"
Yes, I am; I was clear in my comment. The Bible tells us precisely what happens when we die (we face judgment).
There is plenty of evidence for God if you are willing to see it. Creation itself testifies of his glory. Then there is the Bible-it's full of prophecy that's been fulfilled. Only an omnipotent, omniscient God could accomplish this-and that's what sets the Bible apart from other religions' sacred texts.
boan000 1 year ago
@boan000 Evidence isn't a matter of "willing to see it". No one can NOT see my desk simply because they're "not willing to see it". Things exist or they don't, it's that simple.
Actually creationism as accounted for in the bible has been shown to be wrong in every single way. Have you not heard of the body of science called geology? Or maybe genetics?
pokerslut530 1 year ago
Evidence can be interpreted more than one way. The evidence that some scientists say shows the biblical account wrong is held by some scientists as affirming the biblical account.
The major point of contention that causes such division amongst them in their views is catastraphism - whether they see a uniform rate of change, or whether they see the evidence as pointing to a global flood.
I know of a paleontologist who did his graduate work at Harvard who holds to a young earth.
boan000 1 year ago
@boan000 That is flat out false. Evidence is evidence, period. Bloody footprints leading from a body are evidence - where they lead is not up for debate - nor is what they are. Name one piece of scientific evidence that affirms the biblical account, please?
Global flood? Are you kidding? See my 30 second video about Noah's flood. There is not enough water on the planet to cover the land, period! A global flood is physically impossible.
Graduate work maybe, certainly not accredited tho.

pokerslut530 1 year ago
"if you're talking about BereanBeacon's videos ... this conversation is over"
I am not saying thaqt all of the eidence in those videos proves the biblical account, what I am saying is that it shows my point about there being two distinct paradigms. Each camp has there own understanding of science, and that influences how they interpret the scientific data. Each camp strives to interpret it to support their respective theory.
boan000 1 year ago
@boan000 the religious morons try to force science into their ideals, and real scientists look at the evidence and evaluate it and make observations based on that. not try to fit it on a predetermined set of facts that they get from bronze age fairy tale books. big difference. can't even compare the 2.

Lastly, regarding life after death:
I hate to burst your bubble, but this too is physically impossible.
Consciousness is in our brains, created by energy and chemical reactions. Even if the energy did something magical after our death, there is no neurocenter to feel or process anything. It's like having electricity to your house but no appliances to utilize it with. Does that make sense? It's really very simple when you actually think about it.. it also helps you appreciate time itself.
pokerslut530 1 year ago
"Lastly, regarding life after death:... this too is physically impossible. "
I can understand why'd you desperately want to believe this. If it is true that consciousness = life and it's merely a biological phenomena, then you need not worry about giving an account to God for how you lived your life, or what you did about Jesus Christ who died for your sin.
OTOH, if your philosophy proves wrong, you're in trouble...

Hopefully, you'll look into this w/o biased preconceptions
boan000 1 year ago
To say Jesus did not mean the generation of people he was speaking to is absolutely absurd. ALL THREE VERSES are quotes of Jesus PREACHING. You're trying to tell me Jesus was lying to those people because he actually intended those words for YOU? LOL?
Knowledge of GREEK? The modern translations are very accurate as testified by MANY theologians who've been privileged enough to see ALL ancient manuscripts - names I can provide!
Read it for what it SAYS, not for what you NEED it to say.
pokerslut530 1 year ago
"Read it for what it SAYS, not for what you NEED it to say"
So basically you're saying that if the English language cannot properly reflect the meaning given by the original Greek words, we should discount the Greek? That is silly. It was written in Greek, to fully understand it, one needs to understand the Greek voice, tense and mood.
Part 1 of my post diidn't appear the first time I tried, so maybe you did not see the full content of what I am saying regarding the Gk case of "this"
boan000 1 year ago
"Jesus said he'd return in the lifetime of the people in it..."
No, an honest look at the text of Mt 24:4-34 reveals that Jesus did not say this. When his disciples asked what would be the signs of his return, he listed those signs, and then gave the parable of the fig tree.
Only then did Jesus say "this generation will not pass away..."
The Greek for "this" here is hoútos - a demonstrative pron. that refers to a person or thing before mentioned, i.e., to something preceding: (cont'd)

What do you have??
pokerslut530 1 year ago
@pokerslut530 you know a wise man named St. Thomas Aquinas said there are two ways to read the OLD testament...The literal sense and to interpret on a deeper spiritual level. You fools have obviously been able to wrap your "superior" minds around the latter interpretation method so yeah...get back to me when you get around to that level
rocknjosh34 1 year ago
@rocknjosh34 Ahhh, so you're one of those "half-christians" who claim to "interpret" and/or completely disregard HALF of the book while holding the OTHER HALF as literal word-for-word "words from god" ? P.S. It's not interpretation--its more like "we know it's so very wrong, but we can't explain it, SO we gladly make grand leaps of irrationality to *make* it work"
If there was a god why would he give you a metaphorical "POEM" that needs to be INTERPRETED in order to get the REAL meaning?
pokerslut530 1 year ago
@pokerslut530 You really are a twat aren't you. Or would you rather that I find you and burn you at the stake for being a hypocrisy that is atheism. rocknjosh34 1 year ago

@pokerslut530 so obviously your too sensitive to understand what sarcasm is. rocknjosh34 1 year ago
Duh?

pokerslut530 1 year ago
@pokerslut530 that's EXACTLY what you were claiming don't try to hide behind it now...and as far as growing up is concerned, what's more grown up than standing up for what you believe in, no matter what haters tell you? As far as i'm concerned freedom of religion still stands so your insults, as a result, do not
rocknjosh34 1 year ago
@rocknjosh34 There's a big difference between a hater and a skeptic. A hater might clown on you over what type of music you listen to or what type of style you favor. A skeptic will tell you that the psychic you're visiting is a fake, or that you've been duped on a scam and here's why, etc.

rocknjosh34 1 year ago
@rocknjosh34 So because it's been considered "acceptable" to merely interpret the bible for the past four centuries (despite what the bible says itself), you still believe for some reason that - assuming god exists - this is how he would want his works to be treated? On what basis?
And somewhat of an off-topic, side-question I've always meant to ask a christian: Why do you capitalize the "T" in truth?
(also to your other comment, freedom of religion != freedom from scrutiny)
pokerslut530 1 year ago
@pokerslut530 "On what basis?" IDK maybe sending his Son to Earth to start the New Covenant with the New Laws. Jesus said to keep the commandments but to also follow his own. Times were changing, so the laws will change too. This is why the Old Testament is not taken literally by Christians and Catholics. If you want to debate Old Testament go find a Jew to pick on.

@rocknjosh34 that was actually said by horus, 1400 years earlier.

What the fuck do YOU do?
anotalreadytakenname 1 year ago
@anotalreadytakenname "Hypocrite - a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings"
any atheist with a brain stem could conclude that I am not nor have I ever been a Hypocrite. And there's a huge difference between a GUESS and actual first hand accounts of events that happened millenia ago. Historical Fact and a Hypothesis and people call me an idiot don't make me laugh
rocknjosh34 1 year ago
@rocknjosh34
"Actual first hand accounts of events that happened millenia ago."
What proof do you have?
None?
Or will you tell me how God has changed your pitiful little life?
anotalreadytakenname 1 year ago
@anotalreadytakenname what proof do you have that it ISN'T true? Were you there? Oh you weren't? Thought so
rocknjosh34 1 year ago
@rocknjosh34
You can't prove the flying spaghetti monster isn't real.
anotalreadytakenname 1 year ago

Yeah that sounds so much more civilized to me *sarcasm*

redbmusic 2 years ago
Well first off the Bible isn't a science textbook meant to show us how the world works. And the Bible is written by men; what sets them apart is that it is thought to be inspired by God.
And the story of the flood is universal. Hundreds of cultures around the world have a story citing this event; so couldn't a logical explanation be that it actually happened rather than having hundreds of "unconnected" cultures all cite this mythological story.
khsr277 2 years ago
But please tell me some of these scientific claims the Bible makes? Please... go on
khsr277 2 years ago
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@khsr277 I don't care what the purpose of the bible is SUPPOSED to be, it is making a hefty list of scientific claims throughout it. My list is barely the tip of the ice berg.
It doesn't matter if all cultures around the world cite the flood, that is only further proof that the bible was written by man and was completely unguided by any supernatural deity. This is why people like myself mock bible believers - they haven't even read their own "sacred" book - apparently...?
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@khsr277 But all those flood stories don't date to the same period in history. Besides, if everyone on the Earth was dead except for 7 people, then there would be noone else alive in those other cultures to record the event.
SkepticsUniverse 2 years ago
@khsr277 Well, first off. The bible WAS written by men. And the Christian bible as you know it today was written not by men thousands of years ago.but men hundreds of years ago. That took the original book and re-wrote it for their own benefits They are called catholics. The original dead sea scrolls has books written on copper from the original books of the bible And translated into english are not anywhere near our modern. So can you not believe that if they changed one they may change them all
Nyberg1283 1 year ago
@ pokerslut
Hey so ive been reading through some of these comments and i saw you say you want to wake up believers with your simple logic. I'm a believer and believe the Gospel of Christianity is 100% true. I'm not here to bash you or say something condemning; i just want to know want your simple logic is?
khsr277 2 years ago
It's simply logic however is not so simple to put into a 500 char comment. I'll try:
There isn't a single scientific claim made by the bible that actually is true. This proves without a shadow of a doubt the bible itself was written by man and cannot be the work of an all-knowing deity.
Many things have been conclusively proven to be simply physically impossible, i.e. the entire story of noah's flood. Not only is it impossible, but it is a stolen concept from the Sumarians.
I could go on..

So just leave before your murderous heart goes out a kills an innocent human being.
And you wonder why people like me are going to see to it that your wicked global cult is stomped the fuck out. And not with violence, we don't need violence, we have common sense and logic on our side.
Have a nice life sir, I can see your ignorance is quite blissful.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
Another thing, your line from your bio proves what I've been saying for years. Christianity AND Islam are BOTH religions of death.
"to die is gain."
Sick man - you need help.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
What's sick is your NEED to live. Your Atheistic outlook is one of the most embarrassing ways to think and live. Your "religion" has been rejected by most scholars and stems from FEAR of the unknown. Your HATE is what fuels your logic and your FEAR of death makes your arguments trivial and shameful. What an embarrassment to society
YouThoughtYouKnew 2 years ago
My atheist outlook directly equates to utilizing common sense and reason as my sole grounds for determining what is real and what is not. This is in no way shape or form a "religion", it is only a humble state of mind which neither requires hate or strife. If this is embarrassing to you, I send you my deepest sympathy.
Trusting what I see is THERE, knowing what I touch is REAL and being able to prove it all - this is my outlook.
Critical and rational thought is rejected by scholars? Laugh.

Are you insane???
pokerslut530 2 years ago
what a lot of people get wrong about athiests, is that we're willing to use the same methods theiests use in order to shut our "enemys" up.
no... theists kill people to get rid of conflicting ideas. Athiests use logic and reasoining insted.

Trust me! we will not let you do it again .

I'm 95% sure you have read my conversations about this very topic on Beacons crap.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@pokerslut530
Yes and this vulnerability to believe the tennnants of communism had everything to do with their lack of belief in God.
Feel free to block me .
I have never ever been beaten in a debate with an atheist and many do prefer to block me rather than to conclude they are completely wrong.
If I was constantly getting beat up I may consider blocking you too but since I havent been, the thought has never crossed my mind.
JAMRAND 2 years ago
The tenants and the entire social structure around communism centers around 100% societal equality. The reason most communist regimes were anti-religion was because leaders of the church were viewed as holding power - which clearly contradicts the point of communism itself.
I've *personally* ran laps around your brain at least 10 times - and don't forget to count this occasion too. I'm not going to block you for disagreeing - but for flat out lying. This isn't a creationist channel buddy.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
Ran outta characters, but I just have to respond to your last line:
What about 2-3 days ago when I commented about how snow and hail were nothing supernatural and we know exactly how and why it happens even though the bible claims "god makes it and keeps it in store houses". Then you replied to me "thats a lie, we don't understand gravity so we can't understand snow and hail" ...
Remember that? HAHAHAHAHA
Don't make me paste it!
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@pokerslut530
it is going to snow .
nuff said hahahahah.
it isnt really understood .
the process of making snow in nature also requires gravity and if the nature of gravity isnt understood then guess what ?
You cannot understand the pathway of the common cold . So get real .
JAMRAND 2 years ago
hahahahahahahahahahahah making snow does NOT require gravity! In fact if it weren't for some dust of the particles extremely light weight that get up into the clouds and allow the water to have surface area to form ice, we wouldn't HAVE snow or hail. So you're just plain dumb and wrong in every way. This is freaking elementary school science man. Were you home schooled? :(
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@pokerslut530
Here we go again .
you claimed intelligent design detection wa not a science and had to recant.
trust me, creating snow in nature requires gravity.
Dont be dumb . Its a sin I tell you.
JAMRAND 2 years ago
Come on man you're making a play on a pun. You're not actually proving how smart you are, I promise. In fact, it has the exact opposite effect.
Intelligent design in the military or in respects to submarines is in no way shape or form related to "an intelligent creator". It made me chuckle the first time but it honestly wasn't that funny. Mostly because I'm not sure if you actually believe what you're saying or not... as sad as that is.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
@pokerslut530
again moron intelligent design detection .
define each word . and then arrive at its meaning . Comprehension is definitely not your strong suit
JAMRAND 2 years ago
Ah ok so you ARE just trolling... everything you've said makes much more sense. Good night.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
No, the actual act of creating snow requires no gravity. Explain to me how it does otherwise. Please don't be predictably stupid and say something like "well the atmosphere wouldn't be here without gravity" or "it'd just stay in the clouds otherwise!" Semantic games are not entertaining.

What the hell does that prove? It's an argument. Intelligent design is an argument, but it certainly doesn't somehow legitimize it because that's what it is. I am beginning to wonder if you're just deliberately being annoying :\

This is absurd. Compassion is, and can be taught.
You don't have to believe that something is a creation of a divine being to feel compassion for it. I don't. I have absolutely no need at all to believe in a god/gods to have compassion for anything.
If that's what it takes for YOU to feel compassion for something, then I think that's pretty sad.
