Oh, man, would you be willing to get sheets out for this? I've been arranging it for a small Percussion Ensemble from the Three Flew version, but having the Live Art intro in there was just be the icing on the cake!
Real good job! Do you have it written down? I would be most greatful if you could send it to me, i love that banjo line even though im a bass player;) thanks!
this is awesome guys! I was thinking about doing this for my solo exam, havent quite got the bass down yet though, stil working out parts. Plus im not quite good enough to play it well hahahah
Hey, this is a great arrangement! I'm planning to perform the piece on the drums as part of my A-Level music course here in the UK and I was wondering if you could help me out with scores of the other parts, as I'm hoping to put together a backing track.
Very impressive. I enjoyed every second of it. Truely! I play the drums myself and I am in my high school wind ensemble in the percussion section but I try to stay away from the mallets because I am not too good at them but this is truely awesome! You should go check out some of the videos on my channel. You may enjoy them?
My favorite Flecktones tune. Whenever I play this LiveArt Vix 9 version on my stereo and I hear the tremendous applause at the end I think to myself, "Yeah, that's right, you've just been entertained, really, REALLY entertained." Same here--absolutely terrific job at performing a very difficult, fantastic song. Hats way off!
Wow, thanks for the awesome comment 8saturn9. If you would subscribe, I have several other Bela/Flecktones arrangements on here, and some more on the way. I agree on the tune, it is very, very awesome, and very hard too. After I heard it for the the first time, I dreamed about playing it for years before I finally did this arrangement, and it was so rewarding, and a blast to finally play. One of my favorite performances ever for sure.
Great transcription- and well played. I've been looking to arrange this piece for my percussion ensemble for a while now, but can't find a score. Is there any chance of getting your transcription or what you worked from? Thanks!
This is fantastic! I've been working on this song myself, on guitar. Would you be willing to send a copy of the transcription? I have a friend at CMU doing jazz that would love it. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man. Yeah, I could probably make PDFs of it and send them to you. Would you just want Bela's part (the vibe part) or the bass and drumset too? I didn't write out the two-hand tapping stuff on the bass part though, since my guy already knew how to do it, I just wrote the main hand. He was a beast.
Yea just the banjo part, I know the tapped parts already. The part I really want are the changes over the B section and Bela's last solo, which is really fantastic. Thanks a bunch!
Sure man, just send me your email address in a private message and I'll send you a PDF of the banjo part. I actually had a jazz major friend of mine help me with the B section chord symbols, and his chord voicings there have lots of half-step tension which made it killer to discern the individual notes. That solo is pretty sick, I agree, I couldn't imagine being able to improvise that well.
Thanks DDR, I'm glad you liked it so much. Yeah, It was so much fun to play with these guys. The drummer was a friend of mine, but I met the bassist and keyboardist just for this performance, and all were superstars in the UNT jazz program.
Man, I didn't know it was possible to shred like that on the vibes. I don't know what's more impressive...that you transcribed it, or played it. Wonderful performance!
Thanks Kathleen! It was definitely a workout to play. I wanted to make sure everyone noticed the crazy stuff Brian was doing back there on the bass, so I thought I'd point it out. He's sick.
It was eerily coincidental that after I arranged this piece, I discovered there was a guy at UNT that actually learned Vix 9 directly from Victor Wooten when he was younger.

That's absofuckinglutely amazing.
The balance between everybody is strong.
EVERYBODY is skilled, but I noticed the drummer and the bassist the most.
Props to you, and don't stop what you're doing.
