  • yes it does. If you car revs out to 10k rpms you will not make shit for power at low rpms. Or you idle will be rough as hell. So people with high rpms set their idle a little higher. especially in a 4 banger that makes absolutely no torque off boost. But even big ass supercharged v8's that rev out to 10k have high idles. It's for driveability. Find me a car that revs to 10k+ that actually makes power and idles nice and smooth at 750rpms...

  • How rough your idle is depends on fuelling, not peak rpm. The high rpm is likely set in order to have some sort of torque when engaging the clutch. Maybe the car is geared taller in order to drag the first gear longer, therefore keeping idle high so that it is easier to engage the gear?

    What if the car has peak rpm of 20'000? will the car idle at 4'000?

  • And since it will have a rough idle, the easiest way to fix that without having to change your tune is to raise the idle. For this 4 banger to make power the cams are going to have insanely high lift and the clutch is obviously nowhere near stock to handle the kind of power this thing is making. So he could have his idle set to 1k or 750rpms like others have said. Then have fun driving that car with that idle with most likely a 6 puck unsprung clutch. Just raise idle and don't stall out.

  • rb26dett is actually right. Race cars that reach high rpms usually have rough idles with relatively low rpm, but it's also because of the turbo. Have you ever heard a heavily tuned car at idle? It has an uneven and rough sound.

    I have set the idle higher on my racing bike in order to have less engine braking going into corners during downshifts. So, it has nothing to do with the idle being rough or not.

  • The record at the time 4/07 was 201 mph. 229 mph is flying for that Supra. If you look at the other video in my channel Mike has gone 215 mph at the sandhills open on the 4294r (70mm 42r turbo). He is now sponsored by Borg Warner, and is running a 74mm. At Maxton 4/08 he won the Hot Rod magazine comp. with a 210 mph low boost pass and a 10 mph head wind. They only had time for 2 passes, and he was double checking his tune before cranking it up. He will be going much faster this year.

  • This pass he was on a spare 1990 DSM trans. He wanted to make sure that 5th gear could handle the load before throwing his $hep dog box in. He figured that if a 90 didn't break, no way a Shep Box would!

  • Yes he did, out at the Sandhills Open in Arnold Nebraska on 8-10-07. Believe it or not there's still more left in it. I'll post the video of the 215.9 mph once I get it edited.

  • The vibration with the camera being bolted to the roll cage caused the recording to have a freak out. If the speed is in question do a google search on The Texas Mile, go to the main web site and look under highlights. It's in the middle of the text in the 1st paragraph.

    Also check out Hot Rod magazine July 07 issue. There's a small mention of Mike's Evo 2 along with a pic.

  • I don't think thats a REAL EVO2. Real EVO's are not LHD cars ...Its probably a converted Mirage with EVO body:( I have a REAL EVO1 in the US and its BS when people lie about their Mirage :( .....but nice run though

  • If you were at the 2004 DSM/EVO Shootout you would of seen this car as a rhd EVO 2. Adam from Devo Tuning use to own it. He converted it to lhd because he could shift way faster with his right hand then his left. He then sold the shell to Mike Reichen. Mike then transfered his driveline parts from his 9 second Talon into the Evo 2. You can call BS all you want, but anyone inside the DSM/EVO Community KNOWS that this is a REAL EVO 2.

  • I will vouch for that YUS ! Ive known FlyingEvo and Mike Reichen literally for 10 years and these are 2 of the most respected names in DSM in the Midwest. Mike's Red Talon was one of the first Chicago DSM's in the 10's then 9's. Now hes kickin ass in the 8's with his EVO2 and crushing all top speed records in his class. He's that real deal ! Believe that.

  • AWD with a DSM gear ratio. Similar to an Evo 8 ratio.

    He has the Drive Shaft Shop upgraded Transfer case, axles, and aluminum drive shaft.

  • 9.7 was the best et on low boost (28psi when 40 is max) on slicks. The best mph is 152 @ 34psi on boost on hoosier qtp's. There's a 150 shot waiting to be used at 40 psi once the aero and suspension are tweaked.

  • He had to use a stock tranny for this event because UPS lost his Shep stage 3 tranny. He didn't want to overly stress anything out.
